Join California Invasive Species Action Week for Expert Talks on Threats to Our Ecosystem

It’s California Invasive Species Action Week! Mark your calendar for a learning lunch date brought to you by the University of California Cooperative Extension and the California Invasive Plant Council.

The Invasive Species Action Week Lunchtime Talks webinar series will feature experts each weekday, from noon to 1 p.m., who will take on invasive species topics such as:

June 9: Formosan Subterranean Termites (FST): Will Your House Be Their Next Meal? — While only a handful of FST infestations have been identified in California, this termite species is one of the world’s most destructive urban pests.

June 10: Anticipating the Next Invasive Threat to California — “Horizon scans” can help determine which known invasive species in the world may next threaten California’s environment and/or economy.

June 11: Don’t Move a (Golden) Mussel — Find out what golden mussels are, why we care and what to do to help prevent their spread into California’s waterways.

June 12: The Fast and the Furriest: Rats, Traps and Winning the Race — One of the most troublesome pests in the world, rat populations are likely to increase in coming years as many rodenticides are banned. Plus, how to correctly use snap traps.

June 13: Palms and Eucalyptus Under Threat in the Golden State — Although not native to California, palm and eucalyptus trees are prominent features of the state’s landscape now threatened by invasive pests.
