In roughly one year, Helldivers 2 has established itself as one of the best co-op video games in the world. What’s crazy is that no one, not even Arrowhead Game Studios, expected the game to grow to this level. Johan Pilestedt, the CCO of Arrowhead, is one of the great minds who must be credited for the game’s success. Pilestedt is known for directly interacting with the fanbase, which has allowed the studio to shape the game based on players’ feedback.

Pilestedt once shared that it was his dream to see the Helldivers franchise among the list of PlayStation’s best IPs. Helldivers 2 is not there yet, however, it is on the path to becoming one of the best PlayStation IPs. The game was published by Sony, the same company that almost ruined the game because of its account linking policy for PC players.
Johan Pilestedt’s childhood dream could become a reality soon
Johan Pilestedt, who served as the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios for 15 years, is now the Chief Creative Officer of the studio. His hard work has paid off as Helldivers 2 is one of the best games in the world right, but his childhood dream is yet to become a reality.
In March 2024, Pilestedt came across a post on X that highlighted the most popular PlayStation IPs. Helldivers 2, being a relatively new game back then, was not on the list, so Pilestedt pointed out that it was missing. A fan responded to it claiming one doesn’t immediately think of Helldivers 2 when the topic of discussion is PlayStation. Pilestedt then revealed that it is a “childhood dream” to see Helldivers 2 among other popular PlayStation IPs.
I do agree with you. It’s crazy that it might be in the future…. Like… It’s a childhood dream come true.

Clearly, Pilestedt was certain that this dream could become a possibility in the future, however, Helldivers 2‘s popularity significantly decreased a few months after this reply. Sony can be partially blamed for it as the PSN account linking policy forced many players to uninstall the game.
Helldivers 2 has made a strong comeback

As for Arrowhead, the studio was not able to provide players with fresh, exciting content. The Warbonds were a flop, the enemies were not exciting and nerfs made Stratagems so weak that players were done with the game. When the game was on the verge of dying, the studio came up with a brand new strategy and decided to listen to the fans.
After buffs to weapons and Stratagems, the studio rolled out the Omens of Tyranny update in December, which boosted the game’s active player count. The game was able to win the Best Multiplayer Award at the Golden Joystick Awards and is currently expected to win one again this year as the studio has been working on a lot of new enemies, Stratagems, maps, and weapons. So, there is still a possibility that Pilestedt’s dream becomes a reality.
