“It starts with the base”: ‘The Lost Bus’ Star Matthew McConaughey’s Tuna Salad Recipe Is Diabolical, but We’re Sure It Tastes Heavenly

Matthew McConaughey, the star known for portraying roles in some iconic projects like Interstellar and True Detective, is also a lover of food at heart! The actor has also upgraded several age-old recipes and knows his way around the kitchen.

That’s what the actor talked about recently as he went on to give a tuna salad recipe that is honestly diabolical. He isn’t afraid to share his recipes as he wants everyone to try the genius dishes that he has created over the years, and although the tuna salad might sound like it came out of an Alien movie, we’re sure it tastes heavenly.

Matthew McConaughey’s tuna salad recipe is… unusual

A tuna salad is generally made with celery, red onion, pickle relish, lemon juice, and seasonings like salt and pepper (this suddenly feels like a cooking page). However, the tuna salad that Matthew McConaughey has been making every Sunday is a bit overt.

Many people didn’t know that the actor who cooks up emotions with his broad range of acting skills also cooks up some fabulous lunch and dinner in his home as well.

Appearing on the 2 Bears 1 Cave podcast, the Interstellar star delved into the culinary world of chefs and cooks and talked about how he prepares his tuna salad. The actor proceeded to call himself a “tuna fish salad master maker”, which honestly does sound like a title that would suit McConaughey after hearing his recipe (via YouTube).

I’m a tuna fish salad master maker. Every Sunday night, clean out the fridge, and make a bad*ss tuna fish. It starts with the base. You get your good tuna. Next, you want to watch how much lemon and vinegar you add. Add the mayo mixed with some wasabi, and then all the rest of the stuff.

He continued to list out the stuff that he usually adds to his tuna salad.

I’ll finely slice the dill pickle gherkins, crispy jalapeño chips to give it a little bit of a crunch. I’ll go with some apple for some sweetness. A touch of agave, [and] I always have corn in there. And at the end, I’ll go with some frozen green peas.

I mean, imagine wasabi in your tuna salad. Honestly, that would hit the hot spot in your mouth. Matthew McConaughey’s tuna salad recipe also mentions that you toss that all in the fridge and eat it the next day to get that sweet spot of pure happiness.

Matthew McConaughey is also very strict with his burgers

Well, if you’re going to try Matthew McConaughey’s tuna salad recipe, you should also hear how the actor makes his burgers. Much like the tuna salad, he goes all out on the ingredients as he likes to add a little onion soup mix into the burger, but not as a part of it.

In a 2020 interview with America’s Test Kitchen, McConaughey shared his thoughts on how to make the best cheeseburger, and out of the ingredients that were commonly used, there was one thing that set the actor apart.

The challenge with a great cheeseburger is that you can actually overdo it. I want iceberg lettuce, but I want it shredded—I don’t want a leaf, almost like a thin slaw.

He continued,

I like a small, soft, white bread bun. I don’t want it toasted, maybe steamed [so it’s] a tad warm.

The actor added that he uses some onion soup mix to actually season his ground meat (a high-fat content at that one too) to really give that flavor to the patty, which will be used to make that cheeseburger.

Now I’m hungry, and Matthew McConaughey’s tuna salad recipe does sound delicious, and although wasabi sounds an unusual choice, who am I to judge the man who literally saved Earth in Interstellar?

The Lost Bus is currently available on AppleTV+ (US).
