The five-star hotel holds two Michelin keys and has featured on Conde Nast’s Gold List 2025, where its editors share their favourite places to stay across the globe.

The 19th century B-listed building, with a backdrop of the Cairngorms, was previously a Victorian coaching inn.

Multi-millionaire art dealers Iwan and Manuela Wirth acquired the luxury hotel in 2016.

And it was later opened to the public in 2018 after a huge refurbishment.

The couple have spent a fortune transforming the Fife Arms Hotel into an A-list retreat.

It overlooks the Clunie Water in the popular ski town and features a pub, the Flying Stag which comes complete with a taxidermy one with massive swan’s wings, bar and restaurant.

There is a total of 46 rooms at the hotel, each one is unique.

Conde Nast traveller Toby Skinner wrote: “Reasons to love the Fife Arms? Yes, the 16,000-odd works of art – including a pair of Picassos, Richard Jackson’s neon chandelier, a taxidermy haggis, and watercolours by Queen Victoria and King Charles III.

“Add in the fact that no one in Braemar seems to have a bad word to say about the Swiss art dealers Ivan and Manuela Wirth, relative outsiders when they took over this tired Victorian coaching inn in Cairngorms National Park.

“But the real joy of the Fife Arms is that it’s great fun: you’ll find everyone here, from out-of-towners to locals with their dogs – not to mention a team of wry, wise-cracking staff ready to make an event out of everything from whisky tastings at Bertie’s Bar to bracing wild-river swims followed by horse box sauna sessions.”

The hotel is an A-list retreat with the likes of popstar Rita Ora, Hollywood legend Judi Dench, actor James Nesbitt and Texas frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri all paying a visit.

Model and TV personality Alexa Chung and comedian John Bishop have also spent time at the Royal Deeside retreat.

The plush venue has also had members of the royal family as VIP guests.

It has also been rumoured that Barbie star Margot Robbie recently purchased a property near the hotel.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that boozy revellers racked up an eye-watering £159,000 bar tab at the plush Scots hotel.

The group of punters, who visited the Fife Arms splurged out during their visit on December 30, 2024.
