Inside Britain’s horniest towns that look sleepy but secretly buy the biggest sex toys – how does YOUR area stack up?

SITUATED on the banks of the River Wye lies the leafy town of Hereford, known for its famous beef cows and refreshing ciders.

But its summery tipple isn’t the only thing that the 53,000 residents love – new research shows Hereford locals also buy the biggest dildos in the country.

According to Lovehoney’s 2025 UK sex map, the average dildo purchased by those living in the seemingly sleepy town is 7.13 inches long.

In comparison, that’s approximately the same length of a standard pencil, manual toothbrush, or mid-sized banana.

However, the West Midlands town isn’t the only dark horse when it comes to large sex toys.

Thrusting its way to the second spot comes Jersey with the average sex toy purchased here measuring 7.11 inches in length.

Meanwhile, Inverness residents buy dildos measuring 7.10 inches, placing the picturesque Scottish town third, and Twickenham is placed fourth, with the average dildo being 7.09 inches.

Coming just behind is Hemel Hempstead, where size-obsessed shoppers get frisky on the magic toy with an average dildo size of 7.07 inches.

Doncaster, Wigan, Peterborough, Halifax, Norwich and Darlington also enjoy the bedroom favourite above seven inches in length, with historic Salisbury – ranked 12th – being the first to prefer toys in the six inch range – 6.99 inches to be exact.

Sex toys have a long, satisfying history too: the first dildo was discovered in a German cave and was believed to have been used by people during the Ice Age, 28,000 years ago.

Ancient Egyptian paintings also show women wearing large phallic objects around their waists to pay tribute to the Osiris, often revered as the god of the underworld, fertility, resurrection, and the afterlife.

The first strap-on came Queen Cleopatra in 50 BCE, who allegedly filled a hollow gourd with buzzing bees – and created the first vibrator.

However, not every UK town thinks size matters, and it’s important to keep things in perspective, because the average penis size in the UK is 5.63 inches, while erect.

This is a rise of a whopping 8.9% in length in two years, placing Britain eighth in the global rankings for penis growth.

But what is causing this growth?

Although the NowPatient study didn’t have the answer, Dr Chun Tang, medical director at Pall Mall Medical, helped to explain the phenomenon.

‘‘Over long periods, human anatomy can change due to evolutionary pressures,’’ he told Metro.

”For instance, traits perceived as advantageous for reproduction or sexual selection might become more prevalent.’’

The expert also noted that as different populations mix and become more diverse, this can affect penis size.

Our love for health can also have an impact on the average penis size.

‘’Improved nutrition and health during developmental periods as a child and teenage years, can lead to better overall physical development including genital growth,’’ Dr Tang said.
