ILL’s Hollywood Connection Is the Secret Sauce Behind Its Unrelenting Horror

Summer Game Fest 2025 had a lot of new additions and reveals during its 2-hour-long programme. One primary focus this time was on indie and independently crafted video games, many of which extended into the horror genre.

On that note, Mundfish Powerhouse had a barrage of reveals to show off to the eager crowd, one of which was ILLa first-person survival horror title from developers Team Clout. The creators of ILL are no strangers to the medium, with many having previously worked on several Hollywood horror projects.

ILL’s Hollywood connection, explored

Team Clout’s ILL received its first teaser at the Summer Game Fest 2025. The studio is led by Team Clout under Mundfish Powerhouse. While the studio is represented by a large number of newcomers to the video game industry, its portfolio represents a ton of experience.

As described in a report from GameInformer, ILL can best be described as a survival horror game set in an abandoned fort that has been taken over by a shadowy, sinister entity.

The developers of ILL are seasoned horror experts who contributions can be seen in acclaimed films and series such as V/H/S/Beyond, Longlegs, IT: Welcome to Derry, Azrael, and various Sony Pictures horror projects.

The team seems to be exceptionally versed in the genre.

Many of its members have previously worked on multiple Hollywood horror productions, ranging from V/H/S Beyond to IT: Welcome to Derry, among other Sony Pictures projects.

In ILL, they apply their film industry experience to create an immersive survival horror with a cinematic edge.

The influence of the V/H/S series seems quite profound here. In fact, the whole game seems to be geared towards a ‘cinematic edge’, which seems to combine rather seamlessly with the intense survival horror gameplay loop the developers are going for.

ILL is shaping up to be a grand time, and might just be a fan favorite

While we don’t really know too much about ILL just yet, it does most certainly look quite impressive thus far. The game only received a rather extensive trailer during SGF 2025, and given its ties to survival horror, will feature a few action-packed segments as well, much like modern Resident Evil games.

ILL seems to be aiming for realism this time, focusing on the grotesque. The game’s physics engine has also been described as quite advanced, capable of dismemberment and reactive gameplay segments.

Another key focus point is the game’s use of binaural audio, which makes every step and creak feel real.

Monsters are also noticed to react to player actions, and their behavior seems to be directly tied to character decisions. Additionally, there is also a huge emphasis on weapon animations and interactivity, with each bit being handcrafted to fit in.

ILL will launch for PCs and consoles sometime in the future. It is being built on top of Unreal Engine 5.
