Items nicked in the smash and grab included a USA Sunburst Fender Telecaster guitar, laptop and camera.

The band made a desperate plea for help on social media following the “revolting” theft.

Then, in an “incredible” twist, one Good Samaritan discovered the pipes in an alley.

The group are hopeful the remaining missing items – including the guitar- will now turn up.

Skerryvore wrote on social media: “This is just incredible… the bagpipes have been found!

“Spotted in an alley by 3AW Melbourne listener and good Samaritan Tony who contacted the show… who contacted us… and now in the safe hands of Willy Hutton from Claymore.

“Alec’s guitar is sadly still very much at large… but we are ever more confident of it being found thanks to the truly incredible support from the people of Melbourne and beyond, local radio stations, newspapers, businesses and bands all helping out and people literally walking the streets and visiting pawn shops out of the kindness of their hearts.

“This really does help to restore faith in humanity.”

Fans of the band flocked to the comments to react to the good news.

One wrote: “So pleased some of the stuff has been found, hopefully just a matter of time before the guitar turns up. Well done the people of Melbourne.”

Another said: “I had a feeling that things would work out. Too many good people on your side to allow such a great group of guys to leave Oz under these circumstances.”

A third added: “Restores your faith in human nature. Glad you won’t be leaving Australia with such a cloud over a very successful tour. Please come back again.”

A fourth put: “This is great news, fingers crossed Alec gets his guitar back too. The positive power of social media at its best.”
