I Wouldn’t Mind Another Season of ‘Dragon Ball DAIMA’ if Toei Animation Doesn’t Make the Same Mistakes Again

Dragon Ball DAIMA may have been an enjoyable watch for many, but it left too many questions unanswered for me. When an installment is completed, it needs to tie up all the loose ends and be conclusively done.

While the animation was fluid, exceptionally vibrant, and attractive, with action sequences that were exciting, the story itself felt incomplete and lacking for me. Certain plot points were barely explored, leaving room for a second season, but only if the plotholes are going to be addressed.

DAIMA left too many unanswered questions

We need to remember that DAIMA is canon and occurs before Dragon Ball Super, this means that anything that is revealed in DAIMA should already have been common knowledge in Super. That is why the Super Saiyan forms of Goku and Vegeta are such difficult reveals to reconcile.

It will only confuse the long time fans more and more since they know that the main Dragon Ball world has one timeline and DAIMA only adds more confusion to it. The Demon Realm offers a massive horde of opportunities for a second season, although the main plotline could be said to have reached its end, there are many more mysteries.

The third eye, for instance, was used as a gag by being sold in a shop (with the media bugs) in the post-credits scene, but is that all there is to it? Why were the fusion bugs never mentioned, not in Super or even in the manga that is yet to be adapted?

This is not the only point, if Goku and Vegeta could unlock their Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, and even Gohan has his Beast Gohan form (canon), then how is it possible that they were unable to unlock SSJ4? Especially considering Goku has once done it, giving him a lot of experience.

The future of Dragon Ball DAIMA

Training with Angels and a God of Destruction to learn their methods of combat seems to be significantly harder than unlocking a bloodline transformation.

There are characters like Tien (with a third eye) who could have used the Third Eye from the Demon Realm, making him relevant. So it can be clearly seen that DAIMA stands separate from the rest of the franchise and has no part to play in the continuity

The world-building of DAIMA also introduced various ideas that were never fully developed, meaning that there is plenty of material left for another season, like Piccolo’s Namekian race being slaves in the Demon Realm. But if the second season is to be made, then the Z fighters won’t be kids anymore.

By addressing the many issues, Dragon Ball DAIMA could go from a fun yet flawed installment into a fitting addition to the Dragon Ball franchise. Fans want more than just stunning visuals (although they love it), they want a story that can intrigue and captivate (and also fit in with the canon timeline). So, we can only hope that there is a second season, and that it will be done right.

Dragon Ball Super and DAIMA are available to stream on Crunchyroll.
