I Will Not Forgive MCU for Deleting a Crucial White Tiger Scene From Daredevil: Born Again That Showed White Tiger Amulet’s Power

MCU’s Daredevil: Born Again is stunning the fans with new twists and turns with each episode. From Matt Murdock’s fresh outlook on life to having to deal with devastating tragedy after tragedy, the show has been quite an emotional roller coaster from the start.

While fans have been happy about Charlie Cox and the rest of the crew being a part of this reboot show after Netflix canceled the original Daredevil show after 3 Seasons, their inclusion sure comes at a cost. Unfortunately, that cost is becoming heavier to write off as the story progresses further.

However, even with all the deaths and tragedies the MCU show has been portraying from the start, nothing has made me angrier than the recent episode. Or, rather, learning a tidbit about Episode 4, has sent me down a spiral of despair.

A seemingly innocent sequence of Daredevil: Born Again Episode had managed to enrage me in a way the previous episodes failed to do

Although we have been witnessing plenty of damning scenes through the first three episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, there is one scene in Episode 4 that stood out to me in particular. That is the introduction of Angela Del Toro, played by Camila Rodriguez in the MCU at last.

Episode 4 meets a furious and desperate Angela trying to make sense of the whole incident while trying to get to the bottom of it however she can. Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, of course, is right by the young girl’s side. Things take an even more interesting turn when Angela inherits the White Tiger amulet from her late uncle’s possessions.

As touching as the latest episode has been, this particular scene is also why I have a big bone to pick with the MCU. For context, Daredevil: Born Again director Jeffrey Nachmanoff recently appeared for an interview with Brandon Davis on the latter’s YouTube channel.

During it, Nachmanoff divulged that they shot a variation of this scene that ultimately got vetoed into extinction. When asked whether the show creators ever thought about “exploring the powers or what the amulet means” in the show by the host, the director’s response shocked me, to say the least.

It’s funny ‘cause I remember shooting that little sequence with the amulet…As a director I did a few different versions and then we sent it off to the editorial…I can’t remember in the final version which way we did it, but I remember one version where it lights up in the bag, one where it stays dark…The idea was that when the young girl comes, it senses her, so it like started illuminating.

The ones who had watched the latest episode are well aware of which version made it to the finals, and honestly, I couldn’t be angrier about it. It turns out that other fans also agree with that sentiment.

Angela Del Toro is the one who takes up the role of the White Tiger after her uncle’s unfortunate and untimely passing in the comics. Along with the amulet, which is the source of their power, she also inherits his will and determination to not let such injustice happen to anybody else.

Moreover, if her continued presence in the series is established, it would mean that MCU fans might be able to witness Cox’s Matt Murdock in his mentor era. With the way the series has been teasing her importance in the story moving forward, we might very well witness the rise of a new superhero in the MCU very soon.

Does Angela Del Toro’s introduction in Daredevil: Born Again point towards her continued presence in the MCU?

Rumors of various superheroes making it to the list of the Young Avengers have been making the rounds for a while. As such, the inclusion of Camila Rodriguez’s potential White Tiger debut in the MCU could very well point toward her being a part of that squad soon, as per Screen Rant.

Especially since Daredevil: Born Again director Jeffrey Nachmanoff has been vocal about the actress’ terrific performance on set multiple times. He elaborated on the interview,

I was talking to her the way you talk to a young actor, and I’m like ‘You’re ready for this?,’ and she’s like, ‘I’m good”. And when I say action, literally, the waterworks just come out right on cue.

He further added that even when they had to do another take of the scene, she performed on the exact same level again. In fact, her performance was so brilliant that Charlie Cox joked to the director saying, “I’m a little intimidated”.

At any rate, it’ll be interesting to see how that turns out in the end. However, the lost opportunity to showcase something really magical even with the bleak theme the series has so far embodied, would possibly haunt me forever.
