The world of celebrities and their personal lives are often as tumultuous as the fictional projects they might star in. One such actor, whose life almost seems like a movie in play, is Jeremy Renner. Just like any other star, he struggled a lot during the early stage of his career. Even after getting well enough to get Oscar nods, he struggled to even feed himself occasionally.
Well, when he was up and thriving, the deadly snowplow incident left him on the brink of death. But during this period, the actor faced a similar situation in his personal life, when his ex-wife alleged that he threatened to kill her.
Jeremy Renner allegedly threatened to kill his ex-wife
Jeremy Renner was married to Sonni Pacheco from 2014 to 2015 and they share one child together, daughter Ava. During a custody court filing filed in 2019, Ava alleged that the Marvel star was abusive, both verbally and emotionally, during the course of their relationship.
She further went on to claim that the actor has a history of very serious substance abuse as well as drug abuse due to frequent use of cocaine. As per the documents obtained by TMZ, she alleged that Renner was not only under the influence during his time with his daughter but also allegedly told someone that he was going to Sonni’s house to kill her and himself since it was better that Ava had no parents than to have [Sonni] as a mother.
Moreover, at one point during their marriage, Renner allegedly did come close to this point when he put a gun in his mouth, threatening to kill himself, and then later shot at the ceiling while their daughter was sleeping in her bedroom. While they eventually seemed to have settled on joint custody, their divorce battle and subsequent custody battle of 2019 was something that left fans in total shock due to the allegations made.
How did Jeremy Renner respond to these accusations?
When Sonni Pacheco had accused Jeremy Renner of several shocking actions, the Marvel star himself fired back by stating that his ex-wife was looking for a cash grab. Apparently, as per TMZ, Renner revealed that he neither abused drugs nor alcohol but rather his ex-wife was the one with a drug problem.
Essentially denying all the accusations against him, the actor further spoke about the claims in an interview with Men’s Health, stating the following:
I don’t respond publicly or privately to nonsense. It only empowers it. If you respond to it, you give it gas. I don’t fuel s–t fires. I just don’t do it. I refuse to.
While we don’t know how the court battle eventually turned out, Renner today spends a lot of his time with his daughter. Following his recovery from the tragic snow plow accident, he even released a song called Wait, dedicated to his daughter Ava.
Meanwhile, although the claims and allegations against Renner were never proven true, he never lost the favor of fans. However, his Marvel co-star Jonathan Majors recently hit back at Marvel and fans of the franchise who dropped him even before he was found guilty while remaining faithful to actors like Renner and Robert Downey Jr (via X).
