I fed a whole football team for £20 on my daughter’s birthday using a sneaky Greggs deal – I only paid 20p per bake

A THRIFTY mum has thrown her Greggs-obsessed daughter a ‘Too Good To Go’ birthday buffet – feeding her whole football team with 100 bakery goodies for just £20.

Lauren Wharton wanted to give Faith Parker, 11, a party to remember last month [Feb 7th] so ordered seven bags of leftover food from Too Good To Go.

The 35-year-old was stunned with her haul, including 24 sausage rolls, 18 yum yums, eight bakewell muffins, 29 doughnuts, 14 pasties, eight sandwiches and one pasta pack for just £20.74.

The order would have cost approximately £160 if bought over the counter, meaning Lauren saved almost £140.

Lauren shared a photo of the baked goods on Facebook captioned ‘we saved all this from going to waste… Win win and definitely worth the money‘.

Many users took to the comments and praised the mum’s ‘smart’ idea branding it the ‘best party ever’.

Lauren says Faith is a big Greggs fan and, despite being disappointed she didn’t get a sausage and bean melt, she and her 17 friends ‘loved it’.

She’s now pledged Too Good To Go birthday buffets will become a tradition and is encouraging other parents to do the same.

Too Good To Go is a mobile app helping users to buy surplus food from restaurants, cafes and shops at a discounted price to prevent food waste.

Lauren, from Lutterworth, Leicestershire, said: “My daughter and her friends loved it. They said it was great, she’s a big Greggs fan.

“Obviously it’s just after Christmas, we have four children and we’ve been on holiday and especially once I’d ordered all her [birthday] presents I thought if I could save money I might as well.

“I’ve done all the parties, we’ve tried everywhere and done everything.

“She’s got a football team and usually each year we’d order from Dominos and the year before we’d gone to Subway.

“I just thought ‘I’ll see how many bags you can get on the Too Good To Go app’ because all the kids like Greggs.

“There were seven I could get so I ordered them all and went and picked them up. For £20 you can’t moan.

“She was a bit devastated that there wasn’t a sausage and bean melt in it, because obviously it is a surprise what you get in the bags, but she was happy with everything else.

“If you went and bought that I think it would cost you well over £100. I was surprised about how much we got and there was plenty left over so I gave it to the parents.

“It makes you think whether you would rather go in and pay £100 for it or pay the £20 and just have a surprise of what’s in there. The surprise element makes it more fun.

“This will be a new tradition for birthdays. We did it again this Friday because she had her friends from school sleepover so we did the same thing.”

The parent revealed she didn’t have to spend a penny on the venue and held the party at her daughter’s football club house.

Many users praised the mum’s thrifty idea on Facebook.

One user said: “Smart idea.”

Another user said: “You my dear are a legend. I’ll have to do this.”

A third user said: “I love this. Best party ever.”

A fourth user said: “Great amount of food and great waste saving.”
