A WOMAN sick of her council house looking like a “s**thole” has shown how she transformed it on a budget.
Mum-of-two Crystal regularly shares videos of her DIY projects, with her bathroom makeover next on her list.

“I live in a council house and I’m trying to turn this s**thole into a nice home,” she began her TikTok video.
“I’ve been doing a bathroom makeover for the past couple of weeks, which included me sticking sticky floor tiles to my actual tiles in the bathroom, which may I say have come out absolutely fabulous.
“And now I’m finally nearly done!”
One of the final finishing touches was the shower screen, which she picked up for £80 in Argos.
And sharing her impatience, Crystal admitted she wasn’t going to wait for anyone to help her put it up, so decided to do it herself after the school run.
“I had to use two different drill parts for this as the tiles were vinyl and normal tiles underneath,” she said.
“And to be fair it was actually really easy to put up.”
Once she’d hung it up, she admitted she’d made something of a mistake putting it up, as she hung the hinges upside down, so it only opens inwards rather than outwards.
However, in the comments section, people said it would be better that it only opens inwards.
“I think it’s a good job it doesn’t open outwards my son would 100% smash it on the sink,” one wrote.
“There is always that to be thankful for I suppose!” Crystal laughed.
“My kids probably would too ffs!”
“I need this ordering right now!” another person commented.
“Oh I need a shower screen instead of my curtain I replace every month!” a third insisted.
“This is amazing, I admire people like you so much – I’m absolutely dire at anything practical!” someone else wrote.
“Beautiful! I’ve been wanting one of these, you’ve given me hope I can do it!” another added.

When I was a child I grew up in a council house, and was blissfully unaware of the discrimination that came with that, until I became an adult.
My younger years were spent running up and down the stairs of my flat, meeting with other friends who lived there and making the most of the communal garden.
But now, it seems no matter your circumstance, everyone has something to say about why you shouldn’t be there.
Living just outside of London like I did, rent prices are still high, and as my mum was at home raising three kids at the time, it wasn’t easy to find a job that fit around that.
People in council houses are often labelled as ‘scroungers’ or ‘lazy’ but it’s nothing of the sort.
Most families in council homes experience overcrowding, and let’s not even mention the horrendous amount of damp and mould that comes from living in old social housing that hasn’t had work done to them in 50 or so years.
It’s not ideal for many, but it does provide a secure home without the fear your rent will shoot up every single year, which I would argue is vital to children growing up on the poverty line.

“Yes they are amazing,” Crystal replied.
“I used them in my last house and now in this one to as they hold up so well!
“They are fully water tight I grouted and sealed all edges.”
