Hutch snitch Jonathan Dowdall’s home with pond gardai searched for guns & garage man was tortured in on sale for €795k

FORMER Sinn Fein Councillor Jonathan Dowdall’s home is back on the market with a €795,000 price tag.

The State supergrass’ former house, located on the Navan Road in Dublin, was initially placed on the market in June 2024 and appeared to have sold.

However, the four-bedroom property near Phoenix Park reappeared on the market this week with the same asking price as before.

Dowdall, who is due for release from Limerick Prison at the end of this year, will enter a new life with a new identity when he is freed.

He was initially charged with the 2016 murder of Kinahan cartel gangster David Byrne at Dublin’s Regency Hotel but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of facilitating the Hutch gang in the deadly shooting.

He was handed a four year sentence and later turned State witness against Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch, testifying that the crime lord told him he was one of a six-man hit team involved in the gun attack.

But Hutch walked free after being acquitted in 2023 at the Special Criminal Court while Dowdall was left serving his sentence.

Dowdall’s former home is described as “wonderfully presented” and in turnkey condition.

The listing said: “The south facing garden is beautifully landscaped, featuring a large fishpond, an oriental inspired haven perfect for entertaining or a relaxing escape.”

The former electricians house boasts a “spacious hallway” with marble tiles throughout and a “large and cosy” living room with an open fireplace.

The kitchen has been extended boasting plenty of natural light and additional worktop space.

The property also features a spacious garage.

There are four bedrooms with built-in wardrobes on the first floor, which is finished off with his and hers fully-tiled family bathrooms.

The attic is converted into a living space, but the agent said it could be used for “multiple purposes”.

The home also has double glazed windows, gas fired central heating and, crucially for the disgraced criminal, security gates for the large cable lock driveway.

RAIDED BY GARDAI

The luxurious home featured heavily in Gerry Hutch’s famed murder trial.

The house was raided by gardai in 2022 after a search warrant was obtained on the basis that firearms and explosives were being stored there on behalf of the IRA.

Inspector Padraig Boyce told the Special Criminal Court at the time that the warrant was executed an hour after three AK-47 assault rifles – used in the murder of Byrne – were recovered by gardai in the boot of convicted IRA member Shane Rowan’s car.

The back garden fishpond was among the areas trawled through by officers searching for firearms.

Nothing in relation to firearms was recovered at the Navan Road house and Dowdall was not arrested.

However, a USB key was recovered in a cupboard in the kitchen and sent for analysis.

Insp Boyce said the USB key contained video footage that showed Dowdall and his father Patrick Dowdall torturing innocent man Alex Hurley.

The kitchen of the house is the location where Dowdall blindfolded Hurley, whom he believed was trying to con him out of a motorcycle he was selling.

Hurley was then dragged to the garage where he was waterboarded by Jonathan – who wore a balaclava – while Patrick threatened to cut off his fingers during an eight-hour torture session.

The Dowdalls were jailed in 2017 for falsely imprisoning Hurley and threatening to kill him at Jonathan’s family home on January 15th, 2015.

The house listing online said the property is located in a “highly sought after area” and is within walking distance of Phoenix Park.

It added: “There are an excellent choice of schools, as is the TU campus at Grangegorman. Dublin Bus and the Luas offer great transport links should you wish to travel further afield.”
