You’ve seen them in hero selection and on the scoreboard—those flashy character icons with special poses and lightning effects that scream “I know what I’m doing.” Lord icons in Marvel Rivals represent the pinnacle of hero proficiency, showcasing your dedication to mastering a specific character.

But how exactly do you get your hands on these prestigious emblems? Is it worth the grind, or are they just another cosmetic that looks better than it actually is? Let’s break down everything you need to know about climbing the proficiency ladder in NetEase’s hero shooter.
How to Get Lord Icons in Marvel Rivals
The path to earning a Lord icon requires progressing through five distinct proficiency ranks: Agent (default), Knight (500 points), Captain (1,200 points), Centurion (2,000 points), and finally Lord (2,400 points). That’s a total of 6,100 points for each hero—no small feat for casual players.
Each character has four infinitely repeatable challenges that award proficiency points. The first challenge is universal: play the hero for 60 minutes to earn 60 points. The other challenges vary based on your hero’s role. Vanguards need to block damage and rack up KOs, Strategists focus on healing and assists, while Duelists must deal damage and land final blows.
The fourth challenge is unique to each hero. For example, Wolverine players need to knock down enemies with Feral Leap, while Moon Knight mains must bounce their projectile attacks off enemies using Ankhs (very balanced!). These hero-specific challenges typically award 50 points each time you complete them.

Finding these hero challenges in Marvel Rivals is simple but not immediately obvious. Head to the Heroes menu, select your character, and click the “Proficiency” tab in the top-right corner. There you’ll see your current rank, progress, and the challenges needed to advance.
Along the way, you’ll unlock other cosmetic rewards: a hero spray (Knight), a themed kill notification (Captain), an upgraded kill notification (Centurion), and finally, the coveted Lord icon:

Despite their visual appeal, Lord icons don’t offer any gameplay advantages. They’re purely cosmetic—a way to flex on other players during hero selection. And as more players unlock them naturally over time, their prestige will inevitably diminish.
Remember, if you’re grinding a character solely for the sake of unlocking their Lord icon, you’re missing the point. This system exists to reward players who genuinely invest time mastering a character’s nuances.
In other words, the Lord status should represent skill and mastery, not how long it’s been since you’ve touched grass!
