Honey Lake Valley Pool Faces Budget Challenges with Shorter Season Consideration

The Honey Lake Valley Recreation Authority (HLVRA) is proactively addressing a potential budget shortfall for the upcoming summer season at the Honey Lake Valley Community Pool. Anticipating financial constraints, the board is considering measures to manage the pool’s operations more efficiently.

A key concern highlighted in the staff report is the delayed audits, complicating accurate financial forecasting. The pool operations fund is projected to face a cash shortfall in the next fiscal year. To mitigate this, HLVRA is contemplating shortening the pool operating season to reduce expenditures during less busy times.

Further strategies include refining financial forecasting models and exploring solutions to the cash flow issue. One proposed approach is to receive city and county contributions in July 2025. Another option is for the HLVRA board to authorize borrowing from maintenance and facility improvement funds until reimbursements are received.

These efforts aim to ensure the pool remains operational while managing financial resources responsibly. The board plans to discuss these matters at their meeting on Tuesday, March 18, at the City Council Chambers.
