ITVX has confirmed that a full series boxset of the edgy comedy show Extraordinary will be available next month on the 6th March.
Extraordinary is a British superhero comedy television series and it currently has a perfect score on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.
The show centres around the notion that everyone in the world develops a superpower at the age of 18, however, Jen aged 25, still hasn’t discovered hers.
Starring Irish actress Máiréad Tyers and Poldark star Sofia Oxenham as a pair of chaotic flatmates the show focuses on what it means to feel different.
With each episode following Jen’s journey, viewers are drawn into her worries about fitting into a super powered world when she herself has none.
Fans flocked to social media to share their delight with the show and one stated: “I love the Misfits vibe of this show. Showing that superpowers are not always wonderful.”
Another agreed and said: “Incredible comedy! Absolutely love this show and its characters.
“Don’t think I’ve fallen in love and laughed at a show this much in a long time. I recommend to anyone and everyone, it’s a much watch.”
“One of the best new shows I’ve seen – binged season 1 and 2 in less than a 3 days. I highly recommend this amazing British sci-fi comedy.” enthused another.
One fan added: “Extraordinary perfectly balances humour and heartfelt moments seamlessly, making it easy to fall in love with every character individually and the group as a whole.”
Extraordinary won Best Comedy Programme at the 2023 Broadcast Digital Awards.
The series was also nominated for Best Scripted Comedy and Máiréad was nominated in the Best Female Comedy Performance at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards in March 2024.
The second series followed Jen on her journey to uncover her powers as she enrols at the power clinic.
However, she quickly realises that discovering her power is far more challenging than she anticipated, and her personal life proves to be just as turbulent.
But the season ended on a cliffhanger with Jen falling into a void, leaving fans without a resolution.
And despite all the love shown from fans and critics alike, the edgy comedy was axed after two series.
Fans were left devastated by the news as they took to a Reddit forum to share their disappointment.
One wrote: “Such bad news. One of the most creative and entertaining series of the past few years. I loved every second of it. Sad to see we won’t get a Season 3.”
Another added: “This hurts. It was sort of a comfort show. The characters being chaotic and messy but sticking together really got me.”
A third said: “I loved this show so much, I randomly came across it and binged it. I don’t think I have ever seen promotion for it.
“Maybe a British broadcaster can take it on at least for one more season… I need to know what that void is!”
Extraordinary season one is available to stream on ITVX and the second season arrives on 6th March.
