‘High pressure is going to take charge’ with ‘anti-cyclonic conditions’ before cold snap

WEATHER chiefs have warned there’s mixed conditions with sunshine and rain on the way – before a major change next week.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said: “A dull damp morning for most and a very wet one for some with some heavy bursts.

“Milder in the east and rain will track east through the day but hit and miss.”

Met Eireann forecaster Joanna Donnelly said rain coming up from the south will bring warm air and carry lots of moisture.

Joanna said: “It’s actually going to run into another weather front out to the west because high pressure is going to take charge again.”

She added: “Then it’ll break up and it’ll be mostly dry because that ridge is going to build again. Anti-cyclonic conditions, mostly dry, light winds too.”

Today will “turn cold” because the northerly wind is pushing that rain back eastwards again.

The rainfall will move will to the eastern half of the country by the afternoon.

The meteorologist continued: “So drying up and getting clearer in the west, rain lingering and slow to clear in the east.”

It will become “drier and brighter” in west Connacht and west Munster as the day goes on.

Highest temperatures will reach 7C to 10C generally but it will be “milder in eastern coastal counties” with highs of 10C to 12C.

Tonight, rain over the eastern half of the country will “gradually ease”.

Tomorrow will be bright across Munster, Connacht and west Ulster with some sunny spells but it will “stay cloudier elsewhere”.

Joanna continued: “The colder air is coming down on that northerly wind. It’s going to feel cool, cold along coastal areas exposed to that northerly wind. Especially on Sunday when it gets a bit breezier still.

“On Sunday it’ll be mostly dry. Temperatures about 9C to 13C. Probably still a bit cloudy in the east but brightening up everywhere.”

Monday will be mostly dry with some bright spells.

It will be cloudy in the northwest by the afternoon with “outbreaks of light rain or drizzle” following in the evening.

Highest temperatures will be 10C to 13C.

Joanna added: “It will be mostly dry for the next few days after that too. Temperatures are rather similar for this time of year.”
