Heartbreaking tributes pour for ‘devoted father’, 40s, killed in horror Tyrone farming accident as community in mourning

A COMMUNITY in Co Tyrone has been plunged into mourning after a “devoted father” was killed in a farming accident on Tuesday.

John Logue, aged in his 40s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene of the incident in the Pullytean Road area of Castlederg at around 5pm.

It is understood that he had been working with machinery at the time of the tragedy.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the NI Fire Service confirmed that they both attended the scene alongside the PSNI.

The PSNI confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Heartbreaking tributes have been pouring in for John as news of the tragedy continues to spread.

We are very sorry to hear about the tragic passing of local man John Logue, a familiar face here at the bar.

The Anglers Inn in Castlederg told how the local man was a “familiar face” at the bar.

It added: “John was a devoted father whose face lit up when chatting about his son, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”

Another mourner described the father-of-one as a “kind and caring person”.

A third said John was a “gentleman to speak to”, adding: “Thinking of you all at this extremely difficult time.”

Sinn Fein Derg councillor Caroline Devine described the news as “devastating”.

She told the Belfast Telegraph: “Aghyaran is a tight knit rural community, everybody knows each other. So John and his family are well known.

“The whole community is just really shocked, it is such a tragic loss.

“I would like to offer my condolences to the family.”

John’s funeral details will be announced at a later time.

PROBE LAUNCHED

The PSNI said that it has notified the Health and Safety Executive for NI of the tragedy and an investigation has been launched by the health chiefs.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said: “We are working to establish the facts surrounding the incident and while our enquiries are ongoing it would not be appropriate to comment.”

NI Fire Service confirmed that they were at the scene for a number of hours.

A spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a rescue on Pullytean Road, Killeter, Castlederg. Unfortunately one person died at the scene.

“Firefighters made the scene safe and the Health and Safety Executive were informed about the incident.

“Firefighters left the scene at 10.45pm.”
