Harvard Expands Financial Aid Making Tuition Free for Families Earning Up to $200K

Harvard University recently announced a significant expansion of its financial aid program, making tuition free for students from families with annual incomes of $200,000 or less, starting in the 2025-26 academic year. This initiative aims to increase accessibility and diversity by enabling approximately 86% of U.S. families to qualify for financial aid. Under the new plan, students from families earning $100,000 or less will receive comprehensive support covering tuition, housing, food, health services, and other student services.

The move represents a major shift from previous thresholds and builds on Harvard’s long-standing commitment to affordability. Over the years, the university has progressively increased the income thresholds for financial aid, reflecting its dedication to supporting students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Since the Harvard Financial Aid Initiative began in 2004, more than $3.6 billion has been awarded in undergraduate financial aid.

Currently, the average cost of attending Harvard, including tuition and other expenses, stands at $82,866 per year. However, with this new plan, a significant number of students will benefit from reduced financial burdens, allowing them to focus on their academic and personal growth without the constraints of substantial educational costs.

This initiative is part of Harvard’s broader efforts to create an inclusive and vibrant learning community, drawing students from diverse experiences and backgrounds. The university’s financial aid strategy aims to ensure that talented students worldwide can contribute to and benefit from Harvard’s educational environment.
