Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg once got the approval from Leonardo DiCaprio for her efforts. DiCaprio praised Thunberg in an Instagram post, which featured photos of the two celebrities together. While haters have spread vile rumors about their relationship online, even using a fake photo, they seem to have a mutual respect.
Thunberg became a social media sensation in August 2018 when she organized the School Strike for Climate in front of the Swedish Parliament. She quickly went on to become an inspiration to tens of thousands of students across the world, who joined her in the #FridaysforFuture demonstrations.
What did Leonardo DiCaprio say about Greta Thunberg?

On November 1, 2019, Leonardo DiCaprio posted photos of himself with climate activist Greta Thunberg on Instagram. Along with the photo, he shared a note of appreciation for her in the caption. DiCaprio, who supports Thunberg’s cause, called her “a leader of our time.”
DiCaprio suggested that Thunberg’s voice came at such a pivotal moment in history. He wrote, “History will judge us for what we do today to help guarantee that future generations can enjoy the same liveable planet that we have so clearly taken for granted.” He shared that the young activist’s message to the world is a “wake-up call to world leaders everywhere”.
He shared that he was “optimistic about what the future holds” after watching Thunberg and other young climate activists. He added that it was a “great honor” to spend time with Thunberg. He announced that he and Thunberg have made a commitment to support each other for the brighter future of the planet.
Last year, a picture taken on a yacht claiming to be that of DiCaprio and Thunberg was widely circulated on social media. Reuters conducted a fact check into the photo and found it to be of his niece, Normandie Farrar. The altered image was intended to kickstart a vile rumor about the nature of DiCaprio and Thunberg’s relationship.
In 2016, DiCaprio released his documentary on environmental issues, Before the Flood. During the premiere of the documentary at the London Film Festival, he told BBC, “I think this is the issue of [young people’s] generation and there has been a huge movement out there from the youth.”
In July 2019, DiCaprio and two other philanthropists founded the Earth Alliance, which aimed to protect wildlife, push for climate justice, and secure indigenous rights.
Greta Thunberg and other climate activists claim they have been “kidnapped” by the Israel Defense Forces

Greta Thunberg and eleven other climate activists were aboard the Gaza-bound aid boat, Madleen. The group, called the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was en route to Palestine with humanitarian aid, in defiance of an Israeli naval blockade. However, the Israeli forces intercepted the boat.
In a video message, Thunberg shared that the team had been “intercepted and kidnapped in international waters” by the IDF (via BBC). The Israel Foreign Ministry shared that the activists were “unharmed” and that they were being taken back to the shores of Israel “safely”. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has shared that it saluted “the international solidarity activists” and has called for their protection.
Israel’s defence minister shared that the activists will be shown a video of the October 7 attacks in 2023. Other activists on the ship also hailed from Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the Netherlands.
