There’s something exceptionally fun about recreating an old family photo or a treasured picture with friends. I certainly know I felt it when I recreated a picture of my mom during her first year at college when I was finishing up my freshman year. And Glenn Close’s Annie Starke knew it as she was finishing up her pregnancy.
The actress shared a carousel of photos on Instagram, including an old family photo of her Golden Globe-winning mom sitting on a floral-patterned couch circa 1988. Her baby bump is bare, and her mom is sitting on the other side of the couch, clearly staring at her daughter’s growing belly.
In the next photo, Close and Starke (having exited the womb!) are sitting side-by-side on a floral-patterned couch. Starke shows off her baby bump while Close looks on with pride.
“A recreation of a classic family pic… my grandma, @glennclose & me in the womb… now grandma ‘Gi,’ me & Rory in the (enormous) womb,” Starke wrote in her caption. “Aggressive couch fabric patterns included.”
It’s truly uncanny how well they recreated the original family photo. Yes, there are the “aggressive” fabric patterns, but there is also the way both generations of women look at the baby bumps with awe and pride.
Followers couldn’t get over how special this is. “Oh my heart,” actress Olivia Munn wrote. Another person said, “Absolute gold!”
And on it went:
“😭 this is too sweet 💞” “I love this so much!!!” “Fantastic 👏👏”
Last month, Starke welcomed a son, Rory Westaway, with husband Marc Albu. “We’ll never be the same,” Starke captioned the birth announcement on Instagram. “We love you so much, sweet boy.”
In the beyond-precious black-and-white photo, newborn Rory is holding his hands together. How grown up of him! Who knows — maybe one day Starke will welcome another child and pose her newborn in the same way. Or maybe Rory will have a kid of his own who also finds comfort in hand-holding. All that to say, we’re here for the photo recreations, and we will be waiting with baited breath for more.
