So, before you get too invested in this unlikely pairing, here’s a case for why Daenerys and Robb Stark should never, ever be shipped together.
Why do some think Robb Stark could’ve been the one for Daenerys?
As much as it was the Game of Thrones, it was also a game of hearts. And thus, when it comes to Westeros’ ultimate “what if” romances, Robb Stark and Daenerys Targaryen often make the list. Despite never meeting, both shared striking similarities, as they were both young rulers, each carrying the weight of their family’s legacy.
While Daenerys was freeing cities across Slaver’s Bay, Robb was fighting to defend the North as its first king in centuries.
Therefore, many fans of the show and the George R.R. Martin faction think, had Daenerys arrived in Westeros earlier, their paths might have crossed, and sparks would have flown.
Unlike Jon Snow, who often deferred to Daenerys, Robb was known for standing his ground. His unwillingness to take orders easily could have challenged Daenerys, creating a dynamic that is filled with tension and passion, some might say, a sort of Kanthony style, “You vex me” romance could have blossomed.
However, if one looks a step further, these very reasons are exactly why Robb Stark and Daenerys Targaryen should never have been a couple!
Why shipping Robb and Daenerys makes no sense!
Shipping Robb Stark and Daenerys Targaryen might sound intriguing, but in reality, this power couple would’ve been a royal mess. For starters, both were stubborn leaders with strong egos. Unlike Jon Snow, who was willing to bend to Daenerys’ authority, Robb proved time and again that he wasn’t one to compromise easily.
Impulsiveness was another shared flaw. Robb’s hasty marriage to Talisa derailed his alliance with the Freys, while Daenerys’ decisions often backfired, putting her allies at risk. Combine their recklessness, and you’ve got a leadership style built on instinct rather than strategy, not ideal for ruling a kingdom.
Sure, they had common ground, both carried the weight of leadership from a young age, both sought justice for family betrayals, and both faced the Lannisters as sworn enemies.
Other than that, one major factor was that after his father’s execution, Robb developed a deep mistrust of power-hungry rulers and those obsessed with claiming the Iron Throne. Unlike Daenerys, who relentlessly pursued her destiny as queen, Robb had no interest in ruling Westeros, he never even declared himself king, his people chose him. His leadership was rooted in duty, not ambition.
Daenerys, on the other hand, was driven by her belief that the throne was hers by right. While her determination was admirable, it often bordered on ruthless, and her desire for absolute control would have put her in direct conflict with Robb’s values.
Power struggles, clashing ideals, and emotional decisions would have turned their relationship into a battlefield. Instead of uniting Westeros, Robb and Daenerys would’ve likely torn it apart (and not in a hot way).
