‘Gachiakuta’s Unique Art Style Makes Sense When You Learn Its Connection to ‘Fire Force’

If you’re someone who has been wishing for a Soul Eater recap, or maybe a Fire Force spin-off, Gachiakuta might just be that for you. No, the story won’t be the same, and neither will the characters, but these works still share some thematic resemblance. To be specific, this resemblance is purely in terms of spirit or essence. But how come?

The creator of Gachiakuta, Kei Urana, shares a special connection with Fire Force and Soul Eater. Urana worked as an assistant for Atsushi Ohkubo, the creator of both Soul Eater and Fire Force, and has been vocal about her admiration for him. It’s interesting whether all of it translates into Gachiakuta, and if the upcoming anime will do justice to the manga’s unique elements.

Gachiakuta‘s connection with Atsushi Ohkubo is reflected in its spirit, too

Kei Urana, the creator of Gachiakuta, has worked as the assistant for Atsushi Ohkubo. Over the years, Urana has been quite vocal about her admiration for Soul Eater. She has defended the series against trolls on the internet, and the incident became fairly popular among fans.

Even the Fire Force creator himself shared his support for Urana and called their works similar, going as far as saying Urana might be his successor.

Knowing how both creators have worked together, the similarities between Gachiakuta and Fire Force, or Ohkubo’s works and style in general, become more apparent. These works share a stylistic resemblance; they look both high-fashion and casual at the same time.

The characters have an air about them that gives a snobby but endearing impression. This holds true for Soul Eater more than Fire Force, as the characters are often seen in uniforms in the latter. Even in Gachiakuta, the characters wear similar white, uniform-like attire.

Fire Force might not be as heavily stylized, but Soul Eater goes all out on that front. And now, Gachiakuta too! There’s nothing that you will see that has been adapted by Urana exactly the way it is, but the influence is visible in glimpses.

Will Gachiakuta’s upcoming anime live up to the expectations?

Studio Bones’ track record has been mostly positive, with gems like Mob Psycho 100, Space Dandy, and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. The animation studio did a wonderful job in capturing the art style of Ohkubo, and that’s a great standard for Gachiakuta as well.

However, the few fumbles by Bones haven’t gone unnoticed either. While the animation in My Hero Academia was good overall, the anime fell short in comparison to the manga. Moreover, the backgrounds and skies stood out to fans as especially distracting.

So far, things look bright for Gachiakuta, and the trailer has ramped up the excitement. It’ll be interesting to see how Bones handles the much-awaited Gachiakuta anime.

Gachiakuta is currently available to read on the K-Manga app and website. The anime is set to release on 6th July.
