Future of Racing at Diamond Mountain Speedway: Community Meeting Explores New Management Opportunities

The Lassen County Fair Entertainment Committee recently held a meeting where members of the stock car racing community gathered to address the future of racing at Diamond Mountain Speedway. The county has previously issued two requests for proposals (RFPs) for a contractor to manage the speedway. The first round saw no submissions, while the second round received a single proposal from R Davis, which was not accepted, though reasons were not disclosed.

During the meeting, fair officials, including Lassen County Fair Manager Bill Payer, emphasized their support for stock car racing and clarified that the rejection was of the proposal itself, not the applicant. Payer invited Davis and others interested in operating the speedway to discuss potential management opportunities directly with his office.

Payer noted that while a third RFP will not be issued, there is an opportunity for a “sole sourcing” agreement between the fair and a potential promoter. Any agreement reached would need to incorporate certain RFP provisions and gain approval from the Lassen County Board of Supervisors. If successful, this would enable the racing season to proceed at the hometown track.
