Hey, guess what? The Beginning After the End is returning for Season 2 next spring. Crunchyroll announced this news just before the Season 1 finale on June 18, and they even showed us a sneak peek at Arthur’s new appearance in a post-credits scene. Oh, and TurtleMe, the author himself, said he’s excited for people to see more of Arthur’s journey.
That’s nice. But here’s the thing: unless they really pull a huge reboot or something, this anime might just stay stuck in mediocrity no matter how many shiny redesigns they throw at it. Let’s be real: TBATE Season 1 was so bad, and it’s a miracle that some fans are still holding on. Let’s talk about everything that went wrong and how a bit of touch-up just won’t cut it to save this show.
The story of TBATE Season 1? More like a magical mess
Okay, so the thing is that the story of TBATE Season 1 really does feel like it’s racing through a checklist of scenes without knowing why those scenes matter. One moment, Arthur is this reincarnated king learning to crawl, and the next he’s leveling up like it’s a speed run.

The webtoon version of The Beginning After the End took its sweet time to build this world and had us actually really invested in Arthur’s struggle, both in his new life and as a guy who used to be a literal king. But the anime? It’s like, “Bam! Training montage. Bam! New power unlocked. Bam! Time skip. Bam! You confused yet?” Pacing-wise, it’s a disaster.
In TBATE Season 1, emotional moments come and go so fast, you don’t even get time to blink, let alone feel anything. Rather than actually taking us into the world of Arthur, the anime actually just sort of tosses the story out there like, “You get it, right?” No. We really don’t. And that is the problem.
Now let’s talk about how they show us everything. This anime had the potential to be a feast, but they completely turned it into fast food. And not even the good kind. The fight scenes? Oh boy. They’re either blink-and-you-miss-it fast or weirdly slow and awkward. You can literally hear the budget crying in the background.
And don’t even get us started on the quiet moments. You know, the parts where characters talk and you’re supposed to care? But the delivery is so robotic, you wonder if everyone got replaced by magic-powered AIs. There’s like zero emotional depth, no nuance, and it’s hard to connect with anyone.
Also, where is Sylvie’s voice? She’s adorable, sure, but she’s not supposed to be a background plushie. In the anime, she’s just quiet. And not in a creepy, awesome way, more in a ‘we forgot she’s a real character’ way. Give our girl a voice!
The Beginning After the End Season 2 sounds nice, but
Let’s not sugarcoat it: Season 1 of The Beginning After the End was terrible in terms of animation as well. The character designs felt like someone described the cast to a tired artist at 3 AM with no references. Arthur’s supposed to look sharp, confident, and charming. Instead, he looked like a discount MMO protagonist. His dad? Totally forgettable. His mom? Really bland.

His friends? Like, who even remembers what they even look like? Everyone just kinda all blends together like background NPCs. Come on, don’t get us wrong, we’re not asking for MAPPA-level animation here. But just a little consistency, some style, maybe a touch of flair? Something that tells us this world is alive and worth investing in.
TurtleMe is saying Season 2 is all about growth, and you know what? We totally love the hype. Seriously, we do. But here’s the reality check: if they don’t shake things up with the direction, the writing, the pacing, and let’s be honest, the vibes of this anime, we’re just going to have a better-looking version of something that’s pretty meh.
Season 2 might fix the art, maybe the fights, maybe even throw in some emotional beats if we’re lucky. But if the heart of the story, the relationships, the stakes, the actual character journeys, still feel like an afterthought? Then what’s the point?
You can’t fix a cracked foundation by repainting the walls. And that’s what TBATE Season 2 feels like right now: a cosmetic touch-up on something that needs way more than just pretty visuals to work. So yeah, TurtleMe, Studio A-CAT, prove us wrong. Give Arthur the journey he deserves. And give Sylvie some damn lines while you’re at it.
The Beginning After the End Season 1 is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
