However, she has now been charged with perverting the course of justice.
PC Watson was named to close colleagues as the suspect in a sex offence investigation that the Met Police Professional Standards Unit described as “Wayne Couzens 2”.
But the force later dropped the criminal investigation into him after suspicions arose that the woman might have fabricated the claims against him.
She was suspended following her arrest in April 2023 and later charged.
She has pleaded not guilty, with a trial awaited.
Couzens received a whole life term in 2021 after he admitted kidnapping and raping Sarah Everard, 33, before murdering her and concealing her body.
PC Watson, who has 20 years on the force, was said to have been “devastated” by her claims.
But he went on to face a misconduct hearing after a number of younger female colleagues came forward over unrelated incidents, claiming he had made advances or comments towards them.
He got a three-year final written warning, a hearing summary revealed.
