The movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s Verity is in the works and we have all the details on the release date, cast and more.
Though Hoover’s first book-to-film adaptation, It Ends With Us, has been overshadowed by the controversy involving stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, it’s onwards and upwards for the author with her next book adaptation. The movie was acquired by Amazon MGM Studios in May 2024 and tapped some major A-listers for the cast by December. Michael Showalter, the director of movies like The Idea of You and The Big Sick, will be directing. In addition to Hoover, Nick Antosca, Lauren Levine, Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, Will Honley and April Maguire have all been linked to writing the script.
“I just read the script,” Hoover revealed in August in an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. “I’m super excited about it. We’re having actor talks next week.”

When Will the Verity movie be released?
There is no official release date for Verity but we can expect it to hit theatres in 2026. However, there is plenty of behind-the-scenes action to keep up with until then.
What Is Verity About?
Before heading to the movie, let’s backtrack a little. The 2018 novel Verity follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh as she accepts an unusual job: to ghostwrite and complete the books written by bestselling author Verity Crawford after she’s left too injured to continue in a mysterious incident.
But as Lowen digs through Verity’s office, she finds a hidden autobiography with her deep dark secrets. As starts developing feelings for Verity’s husband, Jeremy, she starts to wonder if it’s finally time to reveal her secrets to the world.
Who’s in the Cast of Verity?
While we might not know all the details of the movie just yet, we know the main cast. Anne Hathaway will be playing Verity, Josh Hartnett is Jeremy and Dakota Johnson will be Lowen, Deadline first reported in December.
According to IMDb, also in the cast are Ismael Cruz Cordova, Michael Abbott Jr., Irina Dvorovenko, Lou Martini Jr., K.K. Moggie and Brady Wagner.
Has Filming Started?
Yes, filming has started! On Feb. 27, 2025, fans got confirmation that filming was underway when Hathaway and Hartnett were photographed on set together. In the pictures obtained by People, they were seen holding hands and smiling as they ran together in the streets of New York City.
Hartnett was wearing an unfastened black bow tie, white button-down, and black pants while Hathaway’s Verity is in a gorgeous red dress. She’s also presumably carrying Jeremy’s blazer in her arms.
Then, on March 12, Johnson was spotted filming scenes with Hartnett outside of Grand Central Terminal in New York City. In the scene, Johnson, who was wearing brown pants, a beige top, and a tan coat was splattered with fake blood after witnessing a car accident right in front of her.
Hartnett, on the other hand, continues to look dapper in a gray wool coat, white button-down, and brown tie.
Readers of Verity might recognize this scene from the first chapter of the book when Lowen sees this fatal accident on the day after her mother’s death. She’s then taken to a nearby bathroom with Jeremy’s guidance, which is where they meet and connect for the very first time.
“He’s handsome, but there’s something about him that makes me think he wishes he weren’t,” Lowen thinks in the moment. “Almost as if his looks might be an inconvenience to him. A part of him he doesn’t want anyone to notice. He wants to be invisible in this city. Just like me.”
We’re hoping to see plenty more action on set as we eagerly await an official release date!
