South African actress and fashion entrepreneur Enhle Mbali recently had her fans in stitches after posting a throwback recounting her unforgettable experience at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) in Nigeria. Known for her bold fashion sense and unfiltered honesty, Enhle took to Instagram to reflect on what was meant to be a glamorous red carpet moment that quickly turned into a comedy of errors—thanks to the Nigerian heat and an unforgettable latex gown.
The award-nominated actress posted a series of stunning photos in which she rocked a jaw-dropping, body-hugging black latex gown designed by Essie Couture. The dress, with its sleek finish and bold silhouette, showcased Enhle Mbali’s fearless approach to fashion and instantly grabbed attention both online and at the event.
“So this just popped up on my Apple Photos, and I immediately started laughing,” Enhle wrote in her caption, setting the tone for a funny and relatable throwback tale.

Enhle Mbali revealed that the AMVCAs marked her first trip to Nigeria, and she didn’t anticipate how intense the tropical climate would be. While she had done some research ahead of her journey, nothing prepared her for the reality of wearing latex in high humidity.

“I was nominated for an AMA in Nigeria. Obviously, this would’ve been my first time travelling there. Little did I know, whilst designing this dress, how tropical the weather is,” she explained. “To my defence, I did my due diligence, but the experience was very different.”

Although the outfit earned her praise for its daring aesthetic, the heat became the unexpected star of the show. “The dress itself was a flame . But never have I sweated so much in my life under this latex,” she confessed, adding humorously, “If ever there was a water disparity, I could’ve assisted in alleviating the problem.”
Enhle Mbali’s candid storytelling left her followers both entertained and empathetic. Many praised her for sharing the less glamorous side of red carpet fashion—a perspective often glossed over in the polished world of celebrity Instagram.

Despite the fashion faux pas, she remained in good spirits and turned the experience into a funny memory. Enhle joked that she left Nigeria “five sizes smaller” due to the amount of sweating she endured in her form-fitting ensemble.
Of course, her Nigerian trip wasn’t all heat and humidity. Enhle Mbali also gave a special shout-out to the cuisine, specifically the beloved West African staple: jollof rice.
“I had the best jollof rice I’ve ever tasted,” she raved. While the gown may have given her a detox she didn’t ask for, the food left a lasting (and delicious) impression.
