Nameless King’s real alias has always been shrouded in Soulborne lore, and Gywn can be somewhat blamed. If you’ve delved deeper into the Dark Souls 2 lore, you’ll probably find some snippets that suggest his real name. However, those were only based on speculation shaped out of lore mentions.
In Elden Ring Nightreign, players have probably gotten a new answer to the question that still keeps the fanbase scratching their heads. What exactly is the name of our mysterious figure who reappeared in the series? The answer might shock you, so you be the judge of what sticks with your beliefs.
Elden Ring Nightreign shines light on the Nameless King’s mysterious lore

Elden Ring Nightreign is a spin-off series that has reintroduced some of the fan favorite characters. Be it Artorias or Solaire of Astora, some of them have their cameo in FromSoftware’s newest entry. One character that particularly sticks out is Nameless King. And fans wonder, what is he doing here? Well, that is another mystery that fans have to decipher.

What we don’t have to decipher much is the name of our mysterious figure. Some fans are speculating that the real alias of Nameless King is Grynn, the god of war. This was found out during Raider’s Remembrace storyline, where Iron Menial tells a story of a god of war from long ago. Moreover, it holds the same pattern of Gwyn naming his child synonymous with his. Gwyndolin, Gwynewere, you see the pattern.
But again, the answer is not as clear as ice. If you delve into the lore of Dark Souls 2, the most controversial entry in the series, you’ll find another answer. There you’ll find mention of Faraan, god of war, hailed in the ruined kingdom of Forossa. It was speculated that it was Nameless King’s real alias, as they worshiped a certain god of war, and we all know who that is.
So, which one is it, Faraan or Grynn? The latest finding might be the real answer. Dark Souls 2 was more of a separate story, which takes place in the kingdom of Drangleic. Moreover, it is not entirely considered canon in the Dark Souls franchise. But again, isn’t Elden Ring Nightreign a spin-off set in a different universe?
Why is the mystery of the Nameless King’s name so difficult to decipher?

The confusion surrounding Nameless King’s alias might not have a straight answer. If you want to consider the name suggested in Dark Souls 2, then you can call Nameless King, Faraan, instead. But if you want to take the alternate and more recent take, then Grynn might satisfy your outlook. Nevertheless, the mystery still continues until Miyazaki confirms it.
In the Dark Souls lore, you’ll find Gywn has four children, three of whom have been shown with their true names: Filianore, Gyndolin, and Gwynevere. The last child was Nameless King, Lodran’s crowned god of war and slayer of dragons, who was loyal to his father’s command. However, he ceased to exist after he went against his father’s wishes.
After betraying Gwyn, Nameless King joined sides with all the remaining dragons to act in favor of darkness. Angered by the betrayal, Gywn decided to erase all traces of his firstborn in Lodran. Thus, nothing is known about Nameless King’s existence, other than legends that tell his stories.
Gwyn’s decision to hide his son’s existence has even caused fans to look for answers about who he was. The search was also doubtful, as very little information is present in any of the Dark Souls titles. Maybe we do have an answer with Elden Ring Nightreign‘s hints, but it being a spin-off still keeps the doubt.
