Dwayne Johnson continues to be an evolutionary force in WWE. Ever since his very beginning, despite a few bumps hither and yon, Johnson ensured that he was putting the right steps in place to carry forth his legacy. It all started with Rocky Maivia and from thereon, the popularity kept on climbing.
Despite Maivia being not so popular among the fans, Dwayne Johnson turned into The Rock, an arrogant heel that connected well with the fans. From there, he became a central figure in the Attitude Era, producing countless remarkable rivalries for the WWE Universe to savor. However, the world of pro wrestling wasn’t the end for Dwayne Johnson. His natural mic skills and ability to captivate the audience were what left the fans on the edge of their seats.
He started making appearances on TV shows including the likes of That 70s Show, Star Trek: Voyager, Wizards of Waverly and the list goes on. Apart from his shows, he made his first major movie appearance in The Mummy Returns where he played the Scorpion King while playing the titular character in the Scorpion King itself which followed two years later.
Dwayne Johnson did all he could to make Selena Gomez believe that he wasn’t a plumber
In the Disney show called ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, there was an episode called Art Teacher in which Dwayne Johnson appeared as himself. What followed thereafter was a witty exchange of identities where Johnson simply kept on trying to solidify his stance as an actor and not a plumber as believed by the lead character of the show, Alex Russo played by Selena Gomez.
It all started with Dwayne looking for Alex’s younger brother, Max Russo. This was followed by Selena Gomez retorting that whatever was broken, should have been covered by extended warranty. Then Johnson attempted to introduce himself as the iconic Hollywood actor. Gomez wasn’t convinced as she pointed out to a fountain, stating that it needed a fix and according to her, Johnson wasn’t the man cut out to do it.

She also revealed why she wanted the fountain not to be fixed, and that was because she liked people being squirted in the eye. The Rock continued to do his best to still try and imply that he was ‘the’ Dwayne Johnson. This is when Selena Gomez owned it up that she was Alex Russo, and she loved poking things with sticks but still wasn’t aware of how to make money with it.
She was then pretty assertive of the fact that actors needed a second job until they made it thereby making it clear that Dwayne Johnson was a plumber. Johnson made it clear that he wasn’t a plumber and it was solely on acting that he won his bread. In fact, Selena wanted to know if Johnson got into personal training, seeing his muscles. Johnson was way too humble about that, letting it slide. Johnson had a counter proposition, stating that he was willing to design a cardio program for Selena.
When being called a nice girl, Gomez came up with a witty response stating that she always seemed so at first. He finally got persuaded to try and fix the fountain and then he wanted to find out Max Russo and know about the mono-orangosis. He called it terrible after reading about it on the internet. The scene came to a conclusion with Selena Gomez screaming her lungs out that it was the famous actor, Dwayne Johnson fixing their fountain.
What is Dwayne Johnson up to now?
Dwayne Johnson is one of the board of directors in the TKO group which is the parent company of WWE. In terms of storylines, he has appeared as the Final Boss, on the Road to WrestleMania 41 where he has bought John Cena’s soul. This is the second consecutive WrestleMania that he will be playing the main heel, going up against Cody Rhodes and this time with John Cena in his team, the storyline has simply gone a thousand times bigger.
John Cena’s latest heel turn to form an alliance with The Rock has sparked rumors of other superstars coming back to the squared circle. Such is Dwayne Johnson’s charisma that a remark from Stone Cold Steve Austin stating ‘anything can happen’ has left the WWE Universe speculating the resuscitation of an age-old rivalry between Johnson and the Texas Rattlesnake.
With all of that being said, it goes without saying that Dwayne Johnson has imparted his Midas touch to Hollywood and WWE alike. Despite criticisms, whatever he has touched so far, has turned to gold and he is desperate to keep the arc going in a similar direction for all the future projects coming his way, whether in WWE or movies or whatever that follows suit.
