The wholesale warehouse chain is currently charging customers 1.20p for petrol, 1.27p for diesel, and 1.32p for premium unleaded.

That’s according to bargain hunters from HotUkDeals who spotted the offer at Costco’s Birmingham branch.

If you travel up to its Liverpool branch, prices also appear to be low, with the branch charging 1.23p for unleaded petrol and 1.27p for diesel.

Prices have also appeared to drop at Costco’s branch in Oldham, where it is charging 1.25p for petrol, 1.31p for diesel, and 1.30p for premium petrol.

The average petrol price currently stands at 138.98p per litre and diesel is 145.79p per litre, according to the RAC website.

The news sparked debate from drivers in the comment who noted that prices vary from store to store.

One person said: “Most [Costco] branches are only about 1p less than their local Asda or Tesco.

“The only branches that seems to be a bit more cheaper is Liverpool and Birmingham ones.”

Another person said they have not seen those “prices since Covid.”

Prices at petrol operators, such as Costco, can vary depending on what branch you fill up from.

This can be for a number of different factors including competition from other stores.

For example, Costco’s Trafford Park store, which is just a 34miunte drive from its Oldham branch, is charging 1.28p for petrol.

If you want to take advantage of the offer you will need to be a Costco Member.

You have to be a business that’s VAT registered to join, or be in a certain profession like accounting or a front-line worker such as NHS staff and police officers.

A full list of accepted jobs and qualifications can be found by visiting costco.co.uk/membership-common-questions.

If you qualify, you need to pay £35 for a Gold Star membership card and £25 for a business membership.

FUEL PRICE WAR LEADS TO LOWER PRICES

It’s not only Costco that has lowered the price of petrol at some of its stations.

Tesco is charging as little as 100.9p at its pump in Uddingston, and 123.9p at its branch in Greenford.

Again prices vary from branch to branch, with its station in Antrim, Northern Ireland asking customers for 133.9p per litre for petrol.

It comes as a price war between filling stations across the country has lead to lower prices for punters.

Asda cut the price of fuel by 4p at the start of the month, as part of a gear-change to help turn around its fortune.

At the time, the supermarket said it would cut the price of petrol to an average of 131.9p a litre and diesel to 137p.

And there are hopes fuel prices will drop further on the back of falling oil prices, in a welcome break for families who are facing soaring water, energy and council tax bills next month.

HOW TO SAVE ON FUEL

Making sure you are comparing prices and finding the lowest is essential for cutting spending on petrol.

You can search for the cheapest local pumps using petrolprices.com which should provide up-to-date figures.

All you need to do is pop in your postcode to see what prices are like near you.

Loyalty schemes are another way of making filling up cheaper.

Nectar members can shave up to 5p a litre off the cost of petrol.

While Clubcard members at Tesco stations earn one point for every two litres of fuel purchased.

You can also use Clubcard points to pay for fuel at Esso stations to help your money stretch further.

Keeping an eye out for advice on cheap petrol on social media is also wise, especially on local community groups.

How to cut the price of petrol and diesel

HERE’s how to save yourself money and fuel

  1. Make your car more fuel-efficient. Keep your tyres inflated, remove the roof rack and turn your air-con. This will reduce your engine power and the amount of fuel you’re using.

2. Drive slow and steady. The brake is a money burner, so avoid slamming it on. Accelerating slowly will also save you fuel and money.

3. Be a bargain hunter. Find the cheapest petrol or diesel in your area. PetrolPrices.com and Confused.com are free to use – just enter your postcode and how far you want to travel.
