The fourth episode of Daredevil: Born Again is a Wilson Fisk-centric episode that delivers the goods. Vincent D’Onofrio gives a remarkably restrained performance, showing that his manipulation is just as terrifying as when Fisk becomes physically violent. The psychological depth D’Onofrio brings to the role provides the series with its edge.
We have seen the Daredevil universe (DDU) bring back Bullseye and The White Tiger. So, who else will series creators Dario Scardapane, Matt Corman, and Chris Ord have in store for us in “Sic Semper Systema”? Plenty of jaw-dropping moments, including the return of a beloved Marvel character!
However, a new ominous figure is introduced: a serial killer who wears a white mask with dark streaks down the face, resembling blood. Could this be the Marvel villain Muse? We aren’t sure. We see him at the beginning and end of the episode, draining the blood of one of his victims. We presume that he uses their blood later to create works of art.

Disney’s Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Episode 4 Recap: Who Is Angela?
Hector’s niece, Angela, arrives at the hospital/morgue after her uncle is killed. She is upset, blasting the police for killing The White Tiger. However, it should be noted that we don’t yet know if the police are responsible for Hector’s death. Murdock (Charlie Cox) comforts Angela, telling her they must believe they will find her uncle’s killer through the proper legal channels.
This is significant because, as we know from the comics, she later takes over as The White Tiger, also known as Jade Tiger, while working as an FBI agent. Meanwhile, Matt receives a call from Kirsten (Nikki M. James) about a pro bono case. Leroy Bradford has been arrested for petty larceny but believes he keeps getting a raw deal.
To Matt’s bewilderment, Leroy continues to reject plea deals. He even turns down a 10-day sentence, insisting on probation instead. Later, Murdock runs into Officer Powell and questions him about Hector’s murder. Powell shoves Matt into a wall, threatening and telling him to back off. Of course, the man in blue claims he had nothing to do with the killing.
Matt, listening to his tone, believes him.
Who Does Vanessa Have An Affair With?

Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and his wife, Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer), have their marriage therapy session with Dr. Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva). The good doctor has Vanessa describe to Wilson why she had the affair. For one, she didn’t know if her husband would be coming back. The other reason is that her lover had these “hands” as an artist that drove her wild. We can see Fisk is not happy with these comments.
Later, Heather holds Vanessa back, asking if Wilson has ever been violent with her. Vanessa laughs, saying her husband can do many things, but hurting her is not one of them. After the session, the mayor leads his staff, Daniel (Michael Gandolfini), and his chief of staff, Sheila (Zabryna Guevara), to a port he wants to revitalize. To bring back jobs to the working class.
Later, Daniel blabbed to a young reporter, quoting the Fisk busting the unions. Sheila tells him not to tell anyone, but Daniel tells Fisk anyway. Remarkably, Wilson doesn’t kill him but takes Daniel under his wing, becoming his mentor. By the end of the episode, we see where Adam has been. Fisk has him in an underground prison cell.
Adam begs Wilson to let him out as the Mayor eats his dinner.
Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Episode 4 Ending Explained: Why Does The Punisher/Frank Castle Return to the DDU?

Daredevil: Born Again ends its fourth episode with Murdock/Daredevil locating the great Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher (the great Jon Bernthal), in an abandon subway office! Frank returns when Matt learns Frank did not kill Hector Ayala/White Tiger (the late Kamar de los Reyes). Instead of the broken police force, Castle makes an eye-opening revelation: it was “fanboys” of his.
Many, as Matt points out, are cops. But why would they care? Especially if they want the same justice? That’s because fans of The Punisher prefer his methods, style, and ideology over those of The White Tiger and Daredevil. Frank believes in taking the law into his own hands, whereas Matt and Hector believe in working with the police and following due process—which Frank dismisses as “pussy-ass hero bullshit!”
It is a stunning scene, as Bernthal gives a powerful, abrasive, and visceral cameo, challenging Matt to put away his Daredevil persona for a broken system and say Foggy’s name. However, maybe we are asking the wrong question. It appears the Hector character was brought in to bring Frank/The Punisher back into the fold!
Let’s hope we see more of Bernthal as the series progresses. It may have also brought Daredevil back to life, as the episode ends with Matt practicing his skills on a moonlight rooftop.
