Ever since Secret Invasion first dropped, the show has made a lot of controversial choices. All in all, what was left when the show was wrapped up was a steaming hotchpotch of plot threads that could have easily been a Saga of its own in the MCU. Why Secret Invasion would be a show and not something like The Infinity Saga is beyond understanding, but the show itself also left much to be desired.

While there was a section of the fandom that wished that the show was written out of canon or ignored like the wider MCU does to The Inhumans and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil: Born Again brings some sad news. Not only is Secret Invasion not something that is going to be swept under the rug, but all the events that occurred in it were canon.
With Secret Invasion being all but canon, Maria Hill is well and truly dead

Cobie Smulders‘ Maria Hill was one of the highlights of the MCU ever since she made her debut in 2012’s The Avengers, which launched the MCU in earnest to be the juggernaut that it was. Following this, Hill appeared in a slew of other shows and films and became hugely popular with fans. However, the character meets her untimely death in Secret Invasion while she and Fury are trying to quell a Skrull plot to take over the world.
With Daredevil: Born Again confirming that the events of Secret Invasion are indeed canon, Maria Hill’s death has been further cemented into the canon. However, given that this is the MCU and that the chief source material for the franchise is comic books, it is very much possible that Maria Hill could return in one way or the other. Maybe Talos’ wife could wear Hill’s face, like she often did, as a tribute to the fallen soldier, but there is a much more interesting way in which she could return to the MCU.
Secret Wars has a host of versions of Maria Hill to choose from to bring into the MCU

Maria Hill has been adapted in a slew of ways across mediums. While there are alternate versions of her in the comics, such as the one that serves as the head of the joint Chiefs of Staff for President Kamala Khan and is also a cyborg, some other versions would also be welcome in Secret Wars. Should Marvel be one to bring in characters from other continuities and IPs, it could also bring in Hill, who is the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D from Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Secret Wars has given the MCU a slew of possibilities to bring back dead characters that have been absent from the franchise for a while. Of course, the idea is to continue the MCU, but with a fresh start, with The Fantastic Four, Avengers, and X-Men under one roof over at Marvel. This reorganization of the MCU could bring back some old characters as a new status quo is established. This could mean that characters like Maria Hill, Phil Coulson, Quicksilver, and T’ Challa could make a return to the world of MCU.
