‘Dandadan’ Season 2 Is Highlighting the Issue With Overly Popular Modern Anime That Made ‘One Punch Man’ Suffer

After Dandadan‘s release, it enjoyed unprecedented success that stemmed from its unique storyline and beautiful animation. Not only that, but its interesting characters and fresh, never-before-seen story angles also pulled the audience towards it.

This is why, after a massively successful season 1, we will get a season 2 only after waiting a mere 6 months. However, this is not the same fate enjoyed by many of the older series that also have a longstanding legacy but might lack the same level of hype.

The anime industry prioritizes a quick release and good quality of the massively popular shows and forgets the older yet important ones because of trends. This results in shows like One Punch Man being pushed aside.

One of the most glaring issues of the anime industry is its occasional shift in focus toward profit. It is understandable that the more popular a show is, the more care they will enjoy. However, when that care comes from the cost of neglecting other very good shows, it’s hard for fans to accept both the new show and the subpar quality of the older show.

An anime like Dandadan, released in the latter half of 2024, is now getting its second season in the middle of 2025. Both seasons are animated by Science SARU, and from the official PV, the quality of the upcoming season looks absolutely breathtaking. This is great news for Dandadan fans, as it should get all the love it deserves.

Not only Dandadan but also anime like Solo Leveling, which enjoyed remarkable success with its first season, also got its second season within one year. This time, the production quality is even better, and the buildup around it is sure to kickstart a third season very soon.

Similarly, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is getting its second season after a little over a year. However, One Punch Man, which had its season 2 in 2019, is finally getting its 3rd season after 6 years in 2025 around October.

Despite having an eager fanbase, One Punch Man is not getting the same treatment as these newer shows.

If a show suddenly switches its studio, the change it brings is almost never good. One Punch Man season one was great because it was under Madhouse, which is famous for producing some of the biggest shows in the anime industry.

However, it suddenly went to J.C. Staff and changed directors for season 2, which took the production of the second season 4 years to finish. The quality of animation and script also dropped significantly.

Now, fans have been waiting for 6 years for the 3rd season, and the animation studio is the same as the second season. This fact, with the lackluster PV, is already disappointing fans who expected more because of the essential upcoming arc.

The sad part is that if Dandadan does not maintain its massive popularity and hype the same way, a similar kind of fate can befall it as well. It can also be replaced by a new and more hype-up show, resulting in the decline of its future season’s quality.

This obviously results in frustration amongst the fans, who would rather wait for a few more years than have a rushed adaptation. Hopefully, the actual anime of One Punch Man season 3 will at least be better than its second season.
