Cronos: The New Dawn: Dead Space Isn’t the Only Horror Hit That Inspired Bloober Team’s Game

Bloober Team, the iconic developers behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, have finally showcased their next horror banger in the Xbox June Games Showcase, titled Cronos: The New Dawn, and fans of the psychological horror genre have immediately taken notice.

What’s special about the upcoming title is how it has been long anticipated. The developers have also revealed how they take inspiration from two other major titless, one of them being Dead Space, and the other being a horror hit by none other than Remedy Entertainment.

Cronos: The New Dawn takes inspiration from these two horror hits

What sets Cronos apart is that it’s not just inspired by Dead Space, but it also quietly draws inspiration from another cult horror title, Alan Wake. At first glance, Cronos: The New Dawn might look like Bloober Team’s take on Dead Space, thanks to the gross mutations and the eerie world the player walks through, but it’s way more than that.

In a conversation with MP1st, the game’s director, Wojciech Piejk, stated the following, unveiling the other horror titles of the gaming industry that Bloober Team got inspired from while making Cronos.

Overall, combat in Cronos is leaning towards RE and Dead Space areas but we are still storytellers at heart, so please also expect a strong emphasis on story and atmospheric exploration.-” He said, “I can’t reveal much right now but in Dead Space you need to cut-off Necromorphs limbs, in Alan Wake you need to use a flashlight on enemies, and in Cronos you will need to.. wait to see it.

Piejk talks about how the story and the overall atmosphere of the game are going to play a huge role in how the player experiences Cronos: The New Dawn. He even hints at how this will affect the combat of the game, which already draws inspiration from Resident Evil and Dead Space.

Through their official gameplay trailer, streamed during the Xbox June Games Showcase, it suggested that Cronos: The New Dawn won’t be just another gore-fest. Instead, it’s shaping up to be a horror game that’s loaded with lore, much in Bloober Team’s fashion.

While we won’t know much till the game is finally out, Cronos: The New Dawn seems to be a nice fusion of Dead Space and Alan Wake, something it manages to pull off while still maintaining its own identity.

As we await more gameplay details, one thing is clear: Cronos is going to be more than just surviving through an apocalypse. The game is officially slated to release in Fall 2025 and will be released on Xbox Series X/ S, PC, and PlayStation 5.
