Could Anyone Achieve EGOT Status at the 2025 Tony Awards?

The 2025 Tony Awards, which are happening this Sunday on June 8, will be a night of firsts. Not only will Wicked star Cynthia Erivo be hosting for the first time, but a series of nominees got their nods for the very first time. Among them are Nicole Scherzinger for Sunset Boulevard, George Clooney for Good Night, and Good Luck, and Sadie Sink for John Proctor Is a Villain.

So, with so many stars potentially adding “Tony winner” to their list of accolades, we’re asking ourselves if their win could mean adding the “T” and achieving EGOT status (aka winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and a Tony). Let’s investigate with some first-time nominees below.

George Clooney

Clooney is nominated on Sunday in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play category for his role in Good Night, and Good Luck. As for his other EGOT accomplishments, Clooney has one two Academy Awards. His first Oscar win was in 2006 in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in Syriana. He also won the Best Picture Oscar in 2013 for Argo.

Clooney has never won an Emmy Award despite being nominated three times. His first two nods were in 1995 and 1996 for ER, while his third was in the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special category for Hope for Haiti Now. He’s never been nominated for a Grammy.

Nicole Scherzinger

Despite being a household name, Nicole Scherzinger, who is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for Sunset Blvd, is still a few steps away from EGOT status.

She was nominated for her first Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for “Stickwitu” in 2005, but didn’t take home the prize. She has yet to be nominated for an Emmy or Oscar.

Darren Criss

Glee alum Darren Criss is nominated for his first Tony Award this Sunday in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical category for Maybe Happy Ending.

As for an EGOT journey, Criss already has an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie from his role in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story in 2018. He also won a Critics’ Choice, a SAG and a Golden Globe that year for it, but that sadly doesn’t count for EGOT.

Sarah Snook

Sarah Snook won her first award in the EGOT route in 2023 with an Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Succession. Her second letter in the acronym could come this Sunday in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play category for The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Bob Odenkirk

Bob Odenkirk, who is nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play category for Glengarry Glen Ross, has also only gotten an Emmy in the EGOT route. He has 20 nominations to date, including 13 for Better Call Saul. He first won for Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program in 1989 for Saturday Night Live, then in 1993 for The Ben Stiller Show.

Long story short, it seems none of the stars will be reaching EGOT status this Sunday. But getting to the “T” is still a major accomplishment!
