CloverWorks Might Be in Over Their Heads for Summer 2025

Summer 2025 has been a long-awaited season. There is usually a tremendous amount of anime that is released during the summer and it is a treat for every anime fan in the community. But too much of anything is too bad, and that is exactly what could happen this summer.

The summer of 2025 seems to be a grand treat with My Dress-Up Darling Season 2, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2, and The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, all of which are hyped romcoms, are supposed to be airing on the same day. And what do they have in common? They are all being made by one studio, CloverWorks.

CloverWorks’ triple romcom drop could be a massive disaster

When it comes to anime titles, there is no problem with having more than you can binge all summer, but for a studio to take on multiple high-profile projects, all at once, that doesn’t seem to bode well.

Three high-profile romantic comedies, two of which have an absurd amount of popularity and have been long-awaited by the fans, all dropping together in one season. This seems extremely strange considering even studios with just two projects find it difficult to simultaneously work on them, much less three.

There have been many delays when it comes to anime releases due to the multiplicity of projects handled by studios. In the anime world, fame is extremely crucial to the studios; only with the right execution and a lot of great titles under your belt can a creator entrust the studio with their work.

The same is true for CloverWorks as well. Although they have many major titles like Spy X Family, Wind Breaker, Horimiya, and even Fairy Tail, any mistakes they make this season will undoubtedly have long-term repercussions.

While on paper, this looks like a feast for romcom lovers, in practice, it sounds more like a production nightmare. CloverWorks has a reputation for detailed, expressive animation. This is something essential for romance anime that rely on character expressions, changes in backgrounds, and emotional beats.

Three Romcoms, One studio, and a lot of worry

Each of these series comes with a massive fanbase and sky-high expectations. My Dress-Up Darling was an instant hitBunny Girl Senpai carries the weight of an entire light novel series with an anime adaptation that’s been awaited for a long time.

Splitting time, staff, and resources across three emotionally-charged shows doesn’t sound like the smartest idea, at least, even if the execution ends up being up to the standard, the thought that they could have been better with more time and individual focus would spin around every fan’s head.

Fragrant Flower is a newer romance that’s quietly building anticipation due to its beautiful manga art and heartwarming story. But managing one of these would be a challenge.

Doing all three at once? That’s raising red flags across the fandom; viewers might be concerned that taking on too much might not be the best idea for CloverWorks. If it works, it is a treat to all the fans, but if it is bad or just good enough, the studio’s repute will take a massive hit.

Romantic comedies especially suffer when visual subtlety is lost. CloverWorks has a tendency to go all-in visually (Horimiya, Wonder Egg Priority), but it has also suffered from overextension in the past. This time is hopefully not a repeat.

You can stream My Dress Up Darling Season 2, The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, and Rascal Doesn’t Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Season 2 on Crunchyroll on 5th July 2025.
