The Bavarians are the third German outfit Celts have faced in the competition this season, with one of those games the lowest point they’ve hit in Europe this term, a 7-1 drubbing by Borussia Dortmund.
In contrast, their other Bundesliga matchup was one of their best victories, a 3-1 win over RB Leipzig at Parkhead.
The other results which got them this far were a 5-1 thrashing of Slovan Bratislava, a creditable 0-0 draw at Atalanta, a 1-1 tie with Club Brugge, another 0-0 stalemate with Dinamo Zagreb and a 1-0 triumph over Young Boys.
The league phase was rounded off with a 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa, leaving Brendan Rodgers‘ men in the tricky position of being in a bracket with either Bayern or Real Madrid, and it was the German giants they got.
The first leg was an open affair which saw Vincent Kompany‘s side go 2-0 up through Michael Olise and Harry Kane, before Daizen Maeda restored hope for the Hoops ahead of tomorrow’s return leg.
Should they pull off one of the biggest results in their European history, they would advance to the Champions League last 16 for the first time in 12 years.
