Former Man Utd star Wes Brown finds love again after marriage breakdown and bankruptcy – with Cheryl Cole lookalike

FORMER Manchester United player Wes Brown has found love again following his split from reality TV star wife Leanne.

The 45–year-old has been secretly dating a stunning businesswoman for the past year, with pals saying things are getting serious between the pair.

Wes teased his new romance earlier this week when he shared a snap of stunning Amy, as she celebrated her 41st birthday.

He simply captioned the snap: “Happy Birthday babe.”

Amy – who draws comparisons to Cheryl Cole thanks to her dark locks, works in aesthetics sales and lives in the same area as Wes.

An insider said: “Wes and Amy have been together for over a year now and things are going really well between them.

“She is really successful and has her own thing going on. She is well liked in Cheshire and people think they are a great match.”

Wes split from his wife – Real Housewives of Cheshire star Leanne – in 2022.

The couple were together for more than 20 years and wed in 2009 before going on to have three children.

The footy star was declared bankrupt in 2023 – despite earning £50,000 a week at one stage during his 15-year stay at Old Trafford.

It was a series of property deals that went wrong and scuppered the 1999 Treble winner, known as one of the nicest men in football.

Speaking about his bankruptcy, he told the Ben Heath podcast: “I think the main thing is when you are making a lot of money, you need the right people, don’t you? And I would say that’s one of the things I didn’t have.”

He added: “It’s a long story and I won’t go into the detail, but it’s stuff that happened a long time ago with certain investments and getting into stuff that as a young kid, a lot of people go into, [but] don’t really understand it.

“It’s what a lot of people are doing and then it came to a head last year, and that’s how it went.

“It’s happened and I’m just getting on with it but it’s one of those things where you hope people, especially this generation, don’t get involved in.”

Brown, who won the Champions League with Man Utd in 1999 and 2008, earned 23 England caps.

He also had spells with Sunderland, Blackburn and Kerala Blasters.

The Sun has contacted Wes for comment.

Iconic car brand’s sales boss admits axing two beloved models was a ‘BIG mistake’ after sparking huge public outcry

THE sales boss of an iconic car brand has admitted that axing two beloved models was a “big mistake”.

The discontinuation of the Volvo V60 and V90 estates sparked a huge public outcry back in summer 2023.

The Volvo V90 was also discontinued

Sales had declined since the pandemic, with only 5-10 per cent of the brand’s customer base gravitating towards the two cars.

However, the shock axing meant Volvo’s withdrawal from the estate market altogether – a controversial decision given it had once made its name off the beloved models.

And now, Robert Deane, commercial operations director at Volvo Car UK, has admitted it was an error – driving customers to other car makers.

He told Auto Express: “When you tell a retail customer [estates] aren’t offered, they go off and buy someone else’s.”

After news broke of the discontinuation, fans quickly took to social media to mourn the loss of the Volvo estate.

The iconic car type – which was still being specially ordered by police forces – had been central to the brand since the 1950s.

When Robert joined the company in March 2024 from Harley-Davidson, he began to wonder whether the decision should be reversed.

He said: “I asked the team about the feedback from customers, and looked at the remarketing [data] and saw used values were good. It made me wonder if there was a fleet opportunity.”

Luckily for fans, the V60 and V90 have now returned to showrooms – from £41,370 and £59,280 respectively.

Both are available with either a T6 engine – packing 345bhp – or a T8 engine – packing 449bhp.

News of the U-turn spread last summer – a year after the models were axed.

A spokesperson said: “We removed the V60 and V90 from sale in the UK last August amid falling appetite for estate cars.

“While this remains a long-term trend, we have seen a resurgence for our estate products in recent months and have decided to reintroduce the V60 and V90 to our UK portfolio in response to this.”

However, fans remained confused about how the relaunch fit into the manufacturer’s Net Zero target.

Given that the average lifespan of a model is around seven to 10 years, experts pointed out that their were unlikely to make it beyond the 2030 cut-off.

However, Volvo would not be drawn on the matter, saying: “We do not comment on future model plans.”

It comes after reports that Peugeot is considering a relaunch of its its much-loved hatchback, the 208 GTi – this time, in a new, electrified version.

Top boss Alain Favey said bringing back the car was “a question I’ve been asking myself very much”, according to Autocar.

‘Very approachable’ Dunnes Stores €9 bargain wine that’s ‘well-balanced’ & three other great bottles options to try

SUSTAINABILITY has become a rather important, and necessary, buzzword in the wine world.

Many Irish importers now work with wine makers and vineyards that use practices to protect the environment, support social responsibility, and maintain economic viability for future generations.

A number of practices are being introduced to reduce the environmental footprint of vineyards
AFP

And these good practices begin in the vineyard, with eco-friendly farming techniques, like biodynamic or organic farming.

These include using cover crops to prevent erosion, attract beneficial insects,  promoting biodiversity and no-tilling practices to improve soil health, and minimising synthetic chemical pesticides and fertilisers.

These practices help create a balanced and thriving ecosystem and reduce the vineyard’s environmental footprint.

Water conservation is critical for long-term sustainability in a vineyard. Techniques such as drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and dry farming are commonly used.

Sustainable wineries focus on energy efficiency to reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources, resulting in lower carbon footprints, and operational costs.

But what wine lovers sometimes don’t realise is that sustainability extends to the well-being of employees and the community.

Fair labour practices, safe working conditions, and community engagement are important components of this.

And for those of you who want to learn a little more about how important sustainability is, why not join O’Briens Wine Director, Master of Wine Lynne Coyle, for special evenings this coming Wednesday and Thursday.

Lynne will be on hand, at the O’Briens Wine School, situated above their Donnybrook store, to talk about organic and sustainable wines.

The evenings – 7pm to 8:30pm each night – also gives you the chance to taste six stunning wines from their eco wine festival, currently running at all their stores and  online, paired with complimentary cheeses.

Tickets for the two evenings are available at online and are just €32 per person.

Europa League draw revealed with Man Utd handed trickier tie than Tottenham but both sides on track to meet in final

MANCHESTER UNITED and Tottenham have learned their fate in the Europa League knockout phase draw.

The two English sides finished inside the top eight of the Europa League league phase and avoided playing two extra play-off fixtures.

The two teams are on course to meet in the final in Spain after being put on opposite sides of the draw[/caption]

However, it has now been revealed Man Utd will face Real Sociedad while Spurs will take on AZ Alkmaar in the last 16.

Prior to the draw it was known that the two sides – who finished third and fourth in the league phase – would face one of AZ or Real in the first knockout round.

With both sides way off the pace in the Premier League they know their best chance of playing in Europe next season could be to win the Europa League this season.

However, being on opposing sides of the draw, it could come down to a winner-takes-all final.

Tottenham have beaten United three times out of three in all competitions already this season.

But the Red Devils are remarkably the only team in either the Europa League or Champions League who remain unbeaten this season on the continent this season.

Ashley Dale’s drug-dealing boyfriend is jailed – three years after she was shot dead to ‘send him message’ in gang war

ASHLEY Dale’s drug-dealer boyfriend has been jailed – three years after she was shot dead to “send him a message” in a gang attack.

The council worker, 28, was “deliberately and mercilessly” blasted with a Skorpion sub-machine gun in a cold-blooded killing in August 2022.

Lee Harrison, pictured right with her killers Sean Zeisz and Niall Barry, has now been jailed for drug offences[/caption]

Her killers had been on the hunt for boyfriend Lee Harrison, who was the intended target of the revenge hit.

Harrison, who refused to co-operate with police following the horror, is now behind bars for drug offences.

Liverpool Crown Court heard he was jointly in control of a crack cocaine and heroin supply line.

Harrison and co-accused Terence Rice were stopped in a BMW X3 after travelling into Liverpool through the Wallasey tunnel on November 25.

Police searching the car found a Nokia that revealed the drug ring had sold Class As on at least 247 occasions, with a street value of up to £22,230.

Officers later discovered cocaine with a value of up to £11,900 i nthe home Harrison shared with his mum.

He was today jailed for five years after pleading guilty to conspiracy to supply heroin and crack cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Stephen McNally, defending Harrison, touched on Ashley’s murder in mitigation.

He said: “This offending came on the back of a difficult period in his life for reasons which he does not wish me to ventilate in open court, which I stress he does not claim excuse any of his offending.

“He suffered a significant bereavement in his life. Following that he lost his employment, lost his home, returned to living with his mother and had to claim benefits to make ends meet.”

Ashley was murdered in her home in Old Swan, Liverpool, after settling in to watch TV with her dog.

She screamed “get the f**k out” at gunman James Witham as she attempted to “run for her life” after he forced open the front door.

Ashley managed to stagger into her back garden where she collapsed after a bullet, one of 10 fired by Witham, tore through her abdomen causing “catastrophic” damage.

Witham then fired a further five bullets into the wall of an upstairs bedroom – a “firm message” to her boyfriend Harrison.

The chilling crux of the warning was that he had been the “principle target” of the attack and should be lying dead alongside his partner, the court was told.

Witham, 41, Niall Barry, 26, Sean Zeisz, 28, and Joseph Peers, 28, were previously jailed for life for murder.

They were also convicted of conspiracy to murder Harrison and conspiracy to possess a prohibited weapon, a Skorpion sub-machine gun, and ammunition.

Harrison had fallen out with rival drug dealer Barry – with tensions boiling over after an attack at Glastonbury two months before Ashley’s death.

This “deeply humiliating” attack had “reignited” a feud between his gang and Harrison that left Ashley fearing the worst.

Just weeks before her death, she told a pal: “I am looking over my shoulder all the time.”

Harrison had left Ashley alone in their house on the night of the murder.

Her murderers had strict instructions to “kill [Harrison] and deal with anyone that got in their way”.

Following her death, Harrison refused to speak to the police and claimed he had no idea why Ashley would be targeted.

He continued to remain totally uncooperative throughout the trial and “vehemently” denied he was under threat.

Ashley’s mum previously blamed her daughter’s boyfriend for her murder.

Jule Dale said: “I’m very, very angry towards him.

“Some days I feel like I’m more angry towards him than I am to the person who’s actually killed Ashley because without Lee Harrison this wouldn’t have happened.”

Julie said that Harrison’s behaviour in the wake of Ashley’s murder had added to her family’s pain.

The mum continued: “The way he’s acted since this has happened has been absolutely despicable, it really, really has.

“We’ve had no remorse from him. We’ve had no support from him. We have no admittance that it’s anything to do with him.

“He’s given us any number of reasons of what he’s heard it’s to do with and none of them include him and he still carries on, you know, going about his life, leaving the country, going on holidays, lording it up, shall we say, like nothing’s happened and nothing’s changed for him and it’s absolutely disgusting, it really is.”

I was meant to be doing DIY in Doncaster this weekend, now I’m on a world title fight – my boss isn’t best pleased

SUPER-SUB Josh Padley has answered another DIY SOS by ditching his tools and racing out to Riyadh for a world title shot.

The Doncaster spark had a few weeks notice when he starred on the undercard of Daniel Dubois’ iconic Wembley win over Anthony Joshua in September, with a shock win over Mark Chamberlain.

Josh Padley
Padley was initially due to work over the weekend[/caption]

He was living with his nan at the time, while renovating his new home, when a phone call on a run to the local dump changed his life forever.

But he’s topped that Herculean effort by taking on a tougher opponent, with three days notice, 4,000miles from his new home

He jetted into Riyadh on Wednesday – for a crack at America’s pound-for-pound superstar, three-weight king and reigning WBC lightweight boss Shakur Stevenson – with a matter of hours to prepare.

The fearless electrician took the call, made the check weight, booked his flight and is now looking for his very own Buster Douglas moment – with his 16-1 odds criminally low for a longshot that would stun boxing for centuries.

He explained: “I was scheduled to work all week and then, at the weekend, I would have been doing little bits and pieces around the house.

“The work there is still ongoing but we’re in there now and living there. Upstairs is a bit of a building site but we’re in there.

“Nan is missing me, she keeps ringing to ask why I haven’t been around as much.

“As soon as the call came in, late on Tuesday night, we got on the phone to my nutritionist, to make sure we can do the weight safely.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

“We made the check weight at 1pm and set off for Manchester airport at 1.30pm, the flights weren’t even booked until the check weight was done.

“I texted my boss – because I had two jobs booked in for Wednesday -he rang me and I said ‘it’s happened again mate!’

“My friend, who I work with, is also on a plane to Riyadh so there are two of us not at work.

“Our gaffer wasn’t best pleased but he’s a boxing fan and said if it was my best mate I’d be going as well.”

Making the 9st 9lbs limit in a flash is a tough enough task on its own.

But the luxury flight the Donny ace was rushed onto made the weight cut even harder.

“I flew business class,” he grinned. “A recliner seat and stuff like that, never done it before.

“But the worst thing is, with the strict weight cut, they handed us a nice menu and everyone’s ordering from it.

“All the drinks came over but I couldn’t have any. Everyone was asking why I was refusing it all.

“Everyone else around me was ordering nice food but I had my bottle of water and two yoghurts.”

Douglas was a 42-1 underdog when he flew to Tokyo to stun Mike Tyson in 1990.

The shock remains the benchmark for any sporting upset and Padley has no problem being the rank underdog in a two-horse race.

“It’s a big task at hand,” the working-class hero said. “A three-weight world champion on three days’ notice.

“But I have totally dedicated myself to it for 15 years – even with a full-time job.

“It would be unreal, it would be talked about worldwide for years.”

But when would he be back on site – if he does the impossible?

He signed off: “My return-to-work date is undetermined at the minute!”

The round orange lifebuoys, also known as life rings, are stationed near bodies of water all over the country in case of emergency.

They are used to keep people afloat and prevent drowning if they fall in the water.

It means that members of the public can help those struggling while they wait for a rescue team.

Stealing or damaging the life saving equipment is a criminal offence.

It means that people in need of help may not get it due to the faulty or missing equipment.

Emergency servies commonly use the saying “a stolen buoy, a stolen life”.

Taking to social media, Gardai urged anyone who may have any images or information to get in touch with Enniscorthy Garda Station.

Posting on Facebook, they said: “A stolen ring buoy, a stolen life.

“Gardai are seeking information regarding the intentional damage to four pieces of lifesaving equipment at the Promenade in Enniscorthy, which was reported yesterday, 18th of February.

“Anyone who may have witnessed or who has images of those involved, is asked to contact Enniscorthy Garda Station on 053 924 2580.

“Interference, damage or theft of a ring buoy or other lifesaving equipment is a criminal offence.

“It also hampers the rescue of someone who enters the water.”

‘TERRIBLE THING TO DO’

Shocked members of the community took to the comments to condemn the actions of those responsible.

One person said: “Shame on them.”

Another commented: “Only low life scum would mess with them.”

Another added: “My god how low can you go?

“This safety device, a ring buoy would safe a person’s life. Terrible thing to do.”

A fourth fumed: “Makes me so mad.”
