Meg to be axed by Netflix in heartbeat if she can’t deliver as she finally stops using Royals to cash in, expert claims

MEGHAN Markle will be axed by Netflix in a heartbeat if she can’t deliver – as she finally stops using the royals to cash in, an expert has claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex’s new cookery show With Love, Meghan is set to launch on the streaming service next month – coinciding with her new lifestyle brand As Ever.

Royal author Hugo Vickers said the reaction to the recent trademarking issues and plagiarism row sparked by the last minute re-brand from American Riviera Orchard exemplify the “hostility” Meghan attracts.

It comes after the mayor of Porreres in Majorca said she is considering legal action over the duchess’ new logo apparently copying the town’s centuries’ old coat of arms.

And the owner of family-run New York-based clothing brand As Ever appealed to Meg to change the name to avoid him losing business.

Mr Vickers said many new brands experience teething issues, adding that “there’s almost nothing in the world that’s new”.

But said the reaction to Meg’s U-turn highlights how polarising she can be.

He said: “She’s bound to be just being attacked because people want to attack her, and maybe actually, they’re also jumping on the bandwagon.”

Mr Vickers said such bad publicity isn’t likely to upset Netflix because it will “presumably like any amount of publicity that this engenders, because it’ll get people to watch the show”.

“A company like Netflix wants value for money… they have to deliver,” he continued.

“I suspect that if it doesn’t work, then it’ll get axed like everything else, because that’s what happens in the commercial world. You sink or swim. It’s a tough world out there.

“I think in the end you have to come up with substance, and it’ll be interesting to see what sort of substance is produced by this programme.”

Since stepping down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020, Meg and Prince Harry have been criticised for monetising their regal ties.

However, the duchess’ latest Instagram post, a mood board alluding to the new cookery show, ignores the royals completely – despite her adding: “From memory lane to the memories I’m making today…”

Instead it features old quotes from her now-defunct blog The Tig, as well as a drawing of her, Prince Harry and her late dog Guy.

Referring to the lack of mentions of the royals and Meg’s own family or childhood, Mr Vickers said it was “rather wise of her to do that”, because it could have “backfired”.

“We know perfectly well that she doesn’t get on with her own family…” he continued.

“As for the royal family, well, she has to be very careful about using them.

“We know that she has that connection, and she’s very wise not to push it any further, because I think that’s backfired.

“So you know, to be fair to her, she’s starting to branch out in a new direction.”

Mr Vickers added: “It’s reinventing herself. And that’s what people do, and that’s in a way, I suppose what you you have to do if you’re going to be a celebrity.”

Meghan Markle keeps 'reinventing' herself for cash while clinging to royal links AND using kids for clout

By Ryan Merrifield

FICKLE Meghan Markle has to keep reinventing herself while clinging to her royal links – and she is shamelessly using her kids for clout, an expert claims.

The Duchess of Sussex announced a shock name change for her American Rivera Orchard lifestyle brand today.

Announced less than a year ago, the project is now called As Ever, ahead of its official launch to tie in with new Netflix cookery show With Love, Meghan next month.

In her Instagram announcement, the duchess, 43, said the change meant she was no longer “limited” to selling products from the part of Santa Barbara where she grew up.

But she failed to touch on the trademark issues that have dogged the launch, with officials saying she cannot have exclusive rights to “American Rivera” going forward.

Royal author Hugo Vickers told The Sun: “I think there’s a lot of sort of jumping in and then rethinking.”

He said this reflects much of the ventures Meghan and Harry, 40, have undertaken since stepping down as working royals in 2020.

“It’s always this sort of rebranding of themselves, and reinventing themselves so that they’re always in view of the public…” he explained.

“It does all seem a little bit…how do you put it? Incredibly commercial.

“It’s obviously aimed at marketing. But from what I read, all this has happened quite suddenly.

“There’s lots of applications being put in and things being registered, and so forth.

“I think it’s all a little bit sort of done on the hoof, to be honest.”

THe rebrand announcement video – filmed presumably in the Sussexes’ garden in Montecito – features Harry’s voice playfully telling his wife at the start “it’s recording” before she giggles.

Mr Vickers, pointing out the duke also featured briefly in the brand’s introductory video, said he’s still essentially the main draw.

“I was going to say ‘product placing’, but ‘Meghan placing’, I mean, we watch her because she’s married to Prince Harry,” he said.

“That’s the reason we watch her, and really the only reason, to be quite honest.”

He added: “I rather wonder what will happen if ever the day comes when she doesn’t need him. But that’s all in the future.

“I’ve said this a million times, but that is why we watch them – because he is Prince Harry…he’s put her on the map.

2She was quite well known before she got involved with him. But she’s extremely well known as a result of having married Prince Harry. That’s what it’s all about.”

The As Ever website also features a rare photo of their daughter Lilibet, and Mr Vickers said this, unfortunately, feels like a commercial decision as well.

“I’m personally rather against people using their children for advertising purposes, especially when their children are officially members of the Royal Family,” he said.

“They’ve been given princely titles. So, once again it’s exploiting the royal side, and also…we don’t often see the children.

“In fact, do we ever see them full on? We see the back of the head, occasionally, or we see a hand, or we see something. It’s all rather tantalising.

“It’s been like that right since the start. So I suppose that when they do appear it’s like gosh, there they are, they exist.”

Lifeboat station home to ‘cannibal’ sailor who drank blood of dead crewmates goes on sale for £95k after transformation

A LIFEBOAT station which was once home to a “cannibal” sailor who ate his dead crewmates has gone on sale for £95k.

The Victorian building in Moelfre, Anglesey, boasts stunning coastal views and sits right on the edge of the Irish sea.

But despite being at the centre of countless lifesaving missions, it has a dark history linked to a Welshman who was left stranded in 1874.

Thomas Lewis, who used to work at the lifeboat station, was forced to resort to cannibalism to survive a shipwreck while sailing to New Zealand.

A fire broke out on the vessel, known as the Cospatrick, killing all but three of the sailors including Lewis.

Without food, water and with broken oars, Lewis, Second Mate Henry MacDonald and Ordinary Seaman Edward Cotter, just 18, drifted for 10 days.

It was then the trio of survivors made the hard decision to drink the blood of their former shipmates and eat their livers to stave off starvation and certain death.

Lewis was a member of the rescue crew dating back to 1875

Now, the historic slate and stone property, which has undergone an incredible transformation, is available on the market.

The station comes with its own slipway to the sea and is up for auction with a guide price of £95,000.

Built in 1875, the historic stone and slate structure, which comes complete with a slipway, became a Lifeboat Station, which served the east coast of Anglesey for 34 years.

Sellers Town and Country say the former station is a “landmark maritime building” and set in a “stunning coastal position.”

They added: “Built in 1875, this detached building and slipway served as the Lifeboat Station serving the east coast of Anglesey for many years.

“It has in recent years been privately used as a boat house and store. The internal accommodation extends to approximately 66 square meters.”

However, prospective buyers have been warned that access to the station is not for the faint-hearted.

They said: “Access to the property is on foot only and involves walking down a steep area. All viewings are to be accompanied and prospective viewers should proceed with caution.”

The station was retired in 1909 after a new lifeboat station was built nearby.

It has been used as a boathouse and storage facility in many of the years since.

The new boathouse and slipway were erected just 180 metres up the coast, and is still the home of Moelfre’s current station. It was rebuilt in 2015, costing around £10million.

Around two centuries later and Moelfre’s volunteers have saved more than 1,000 lives.

Volunteers have been awarded 37 medals, including four gold, seven silver and 26 bronze, in that time by the RNLI to reward “humane and intrepid exertions in saving life from shipwrecks on our coasts, deemed sufficiently conspicuous to merit honourable distinction”.

The medal can be awarded for saving life at sea in gold, silver and bronze.

Bidding on the former lifeboat station will take place on March 26.

Three of Britain’s busiest motorways to shut in just HOURS in string of weekend closures – is your journey affected?

THREE of Britain’s busiest motorways will shut over the next few days amidst a string of weekend closures.

Motorists have been warned they face significant disruption as major works get underway on the M25, M6, and M62.

The M25 and M62 will both shut tonight while the M6 closures will begin on Monday[/caption]

The Junction 10 gyratory on the M25, which provides access to the A3, will close from 9pm on Friday until 6am on Monday, February 24, meaning there will be no interchange between the two routes.

Despite the closure, it is only the slip roads and roundabout that will be affected, and drivers on the A3 will still be able to continue through journeys, as will those on the M25.

National Highways confirmed there are diversion routes in place, taking drivers on local routes including the A320, A245, and A243 to avoid the closed junction.

These routes will all be signposted and are specifically designed to avoid London’s ULEZ, meaning you won’t pick up any unwanted fines.

Local access will still be available via the A3 northbound off slip to Painshill Junction.

The work comes as part of a £317million project to add extra lanes at the junction, and will see the major motorway closed in both directions between March 7 and 10, and between March 21 and 24.

Elsewhere, the M62 westbound between Manchester and Warrington will be closed overnight and will also suffer from lane restrictions in the daytime over the weekend.

The busy route will close fully between Junction 12 at Eccles and Junction 11 at Birchwood at 9pm on Friday before reopening at 6am on Saturday.

This will not only take place on February 21 but next weekend also.

During the daytime on both Saturdays, two of the four westbound lanes will be shut until late evening.

Diversion routes have been put in place, taking motorists via the anti-clockwise M60, westbound M56, and northbound M6.

Travelling football fans heading to watch Manchester United play Everton in Liverpool on Saturday have been advised to consider using the M56 and M6 to avoid delays.

The M6 is also facing disruption from Monday as closures are put in place to allow a £4million drainage improvement project to begin.

From Monday until Saturday, March 29, there will be overnight lane closures on part of the motorway, starting just south of Junction 34 at Lancaster to Junction 35 at Carnforth.

The road will also see daytime closures beginning from Monday, March 31.

National Highways said the improvements were being done to repair drainage systems and central reservation safety barriers as well as to clear blockages and improve the southbound roadside verge.

Diversion routes in place

M25 eastbound diversions:

Drivers on the M25 heading eastbound should leave the motorway at Junction 11 and follow the A320 towards the Six Crossroads roundabout junction with the A245 at Woking.

Then take the A245 to Sheerwater, West Byfleet and Byfleet to joint the A3 north or south at the Painshill Junction.

M25 westbound heading north on A3:

Drivers heading westbound on the M25 that want to head north on the A3 should leave the motorway at Junction 9 and follow the A243 towards Malden Rushett and Chessington.

At the Hook Junction, turn left onto the A309 Kingston Bypass and continue to the Scilly Isles Junction with the A307, and then take the first exit to the A307 towards Esher and Cobham to the Between Streets Junction.

At the junction of the A307 Porstmouth Road, take the second exit to the A245 and head towards Painshill Junction to join the A3 north.

M25 westbound heading south on A3:

Drivers heading westbound on the M25 and wanting to head south on the A3 should leave the motorway at Junction 9, taking the first exit and following the A24 Leatherhead Bypass south to the Givons Grove junction.

At the Givons Grove roundabout junction with the A246, take the second exit to the A246 Leatherhead Road towards Guildford.

Then, at the Clandon Crossroads, take the right turn to the A247 Clandon Road and then access the A3 south at the Send Junction.

A3 southbound heading west on M25:

Drivers heading southbound on the A3 who want to head west on the M25 should leave the A-road at the Painshill Junction before following the A245 through Byfleet, West Byfleet and Sheerwater towards the Six Crossroads Roundabout junction.

Once at that roundabout, take the fifth exit to the A320 which will take you to Junction 11 of the M25.

A3 southbound heading east on M25:

Drivers heading southbound on the A3 who want to continue east on the M25 should also leave the A-road at the Painshill Junction before taking the A246 towards Painshill.

Once at the Between Streets Junction, take the first exit to the A307 towards Esher to the Scilly Isles Junction with the A309 Kingston Bypass.

There, take the second exit onto the A309 Kingston Bypass up to the A3 Hook Junction.

At the Hook Junction, take the second exit to the A243 towards Hook and Malden Rushett and join the M25 at Junction 9.

A3 northbound heading east on M25:

Drivers heading northbound on the A3 who want to continue east on the M25 should leave the A3 at Send onto the B2215 and take the third exit at the roundabout onto the A247 through West Clandon.

Once at the Clandon Crossroads Junction, turn left to the A246 towards Leatherhead and continue to the Givons Grove roundabout junction with the A24 Leatherhead bypass.

Take the second exit to the A24 Leatherhead bypass and continue to the roundabout junction with the A24, taking the second exit to the A243.

Then continue along the A243 to joint the M25 east at Junction 9.

A3 northbound heading west on M25:

Drivers heading northbound on the A3 who want to continue west on the M25 should leave the A3 at Send onto the B2215.

At the roundabout take the first exit to the A237 Send Barns Lane until you reach the roundabout junction with the B382 High Street Old Woking.

There, take the second exit onto the B382 High Street and continue onto the B382 Old Woking Road, continuing to the roundabout junction with the A245.

Then, take the first exit to the A245 Sheerwater Road, continuing onto the A245 to the Six Crossroads Roundabout Junction with the A320, taking the fifth exit to the A320 Chertsey Road.

Continue on the A320 to join the M25 west at Junction 11.

M62 diversion:

When the motorway is closed overnight on the Friday and Saturday nights a diversion will operate using the anti-clockwise M60, westbound M56 and northbound M6 with drivers rejoining the M62 at junction 10 at Croft interchange.

No work will be taking place along the eastbound carriageway which will remain fully-open throughout each weekend.

Cameron Newsham, National highways project manager, said: “Doing the drainage and safety barrier work at the same time means reducing future roadworks in the area – minimising inconvenience for motorway users.

“In any case, the motorway will be open to drivers at all times as we’ll be carrying out all the work by only using lane closures both during the daytime and overnight.

“While we are not expecting this work to disrupt anyone’s journey we appreciate drivers like to know what work is going on when they come across traffic management and lane closures.”

The work will be carried out in three phases using lane closures, with the motorway remaining open throughout.

While a 50mph speed limit will be in place for some sections, the national speed limit will apply elsewhere.

Ronan O’Gara lays out definitive career plan amid his ongoing links with Australia and Wales jobs

RONAN O’Gara has definitively stated he will remain as La Rochelle head coach until 2027.

His name has been floated around the Wales job since Warren Gatland’s departure as well as the Australian gig upon Joe Schmidt’s exit later this year.

With Gatland gone, it’ll be Matt Sheratt leading the Welsh team against Ireland in Cardiff on Saturday[/caption]

And while the Munster icon has previously spoken about feeling like ‘a Judas’ were he to renege on his current contract, he has not been shy in acknowledging that the Australian job would appeal to him.

So it was worth pricking one’s ears up when he stated in such outright fashion that he has no plans to move into the international game for at least two years.

Speaking on his weekly Off the Ball Breakfast segment, he talked up how much joy he gets out of coaching the likes of La Rochelle’s Aussie man-mountain Will Skelton.

In the process of doing so, he said: “It’s just so rewarding coaching people like him.

“You get enjoyment out of it even in tough times and it is tough at the moment.

“But the relationships aren’t strong if you change your behaviour then towards those people who have given me the possibility to shine at test level – if I wanted to do that.

“And I don’t want to do that yet because I feel like I’ve such unfinished business at La Rochelle so I’m going to be there until 2027.

“I’m not going to Australia, I’m not going to Wales. I’m locked in here and it’s important that people in La Rochelle understand that.”

La Rochelle are currently languishing in seventh place in the Top 14 with a record of eights wins and losses apiece from their 16 outings.

Later on in the interview, the 47-year-old backed Simon Easterby’s decision to stick with Sam Prendergast as his starting ten for Saturday’s Six Nations clash with Wales as ‘the logical call’.

Dan Sheehan starts for the first time this campaign, having come off the bench against England and the Scots, and will captain the team in place of Caelan Doris, who misses out through injury.

The Leinster hooker comes into the team for Ronan Kelleher, who joins Doris, Tadhg FurlongIain Henderson, and Cormac Izuchukwu on the injury list.

With this in mind, Easterby has made a host of changes from the side that won at Murrayfield.

Sheehan is joined in the front row by Thomas Clarkson – making his first start for the national team – and Andrew Porter.

Joe McCarthy makes his return from injury to partner Tadhg Beirne, while Peter O’Mahony joins Josh van der Flier and Jack Conan, the latter of whom comes into the starting line-up.

Jamie Osborne will make his Six Nations debut at full-back, with James Lowe and the returning Mack Hansen lining up on the wings.

Robbie Henshaw and Garry Ringrose are the midfield pairing, with Bundee Aki dropping to the bench.

Speaking of the bench, Jack Boyle is in line to make his Ireland debut, while Gus McCarthy and Sam’s brother Cian could make their Six Nations bows.

Only hours before her death, Brian had been speaking to his mother Rosie, a sparkling 61-year-old in full health.

Her final words to him were: “Goodnight son, we’ll talk in the morning.”

Rosie left behind her seven children, including Brian and his six sisters, Tara, Aoife, Michelle, Valeria, Tracey and Paula.

And today on the anniversary of her death, Brian took to Instagram to share a heartbreaking tribute to his beloved mum.

The grief-struck star wrote: “I sat at my desk this morning, a very different person from the one I was seven years ago today.

“On this day in 2018, our beautiful mum passed away in her sleep. My mum wasn’t sick; there was no accident. Our mum passed away from SADs, Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. This is something seven years later that my family & I are still coming to terms with.”

The dad-of-two confessed: “Sometimes, I feel like I’ve just spoken to you & on other occasions, I feel like I can’t even remember the sound of your voice.”

The Virgin Media star reminisced on his life seven years ago as he sat at his desk in the 98FM studio.

He penned: “Seven years ago, I didn’t have the job for the desk I’m currently sitting at, seven years ago, I wasn’t a dad of two beautiful little girls that you would be OBSESSED with mum.

“Seven years ago, I lived in a different country. Seven years ago, our hearts were broken forever.”

Brian finished off his beautiful paragraph adding: “Time changes everything. The one thing time will never change is my utter love & devotion to you, Mum.

“I just want to hug you & sit down, have a cup of tea & talk to you all about Blake & Blu. You will live FOREVER in our HEARTS! Miss you, Mum.”

And fans and friends all flocked to the comment section to share their love for the heartbroken star.

Brian’s co-host, Katja Mia wrote: “I can only imagine how proud she is of you, sending lots of hugs.”

‘GRIEF HAS NO END’

The Big Brother star’s sister, Aoife Dowling, said: “Loved & missed so much every day.”

Irish model, Grainne Gallanagh gushed: “Imagine how much joy she gets seeing you with your two beautiful girls.”

One follower added: “That’s very hard Brian. Thinking of you today.”

While Christina remarked: “Sending comfort & love to you Brian. Grief has no end, no structure, but thankfully, we have the loving memories to hold in our hearts.”
