Friary Shoes in Lichfield, Staffordshire, has advertised a closing down sale applying to all of its remaining stock.

Footwear prices will be slashed along with the fixtures and fittings – chairs, stools, mirrors, filing cabinets and ladders all have to go.

A spokesperson for the store said: “A massive thank you to everyone who has popped in over the past week to wish us well.

“It’s been such an emotional period for us – but the love we have received has been overwhelming and we are so, so grateful.”

Today the retailers shared the closing down sale on Facebook, stating it was the last day to nab “crazy prices” with adult shoes selling for £25 and children’s shoes priced at £10.”

Shoppes are gutted to see the store go and many have taken social media to express their disappointment.

One concerned customer wrote: “So sad to see this lovely shop go.

“Our grandson was really sad yesterday when we walked in and saw the fixtures and fittings being sold.”

Another left a heartfelt comment saying: “You will be missed by everyone who was a regular customer.

“Thank you for introducing me to so many brands of footwear.

“I personally will miss you dreadfully.”

One woman who used to visit the store as a child shared an emotional message, calling the longstanding store “a piece of history.”

She said: “As a fairly regular customer for my child and also his first shoes, and a former Friary Shoes Ltd child myself with my mum back in the 80s it was sad to come in and see what has had to happen this week.

“I did purchase three more pairs of shoes for my son ready for his next size in your sale yesterday.

“We will miss you very much and thank you for your services.”

“A piece of history.”

For anyone who wants to bag a bargain, Friary Shoes is open from 10am to 5pm Wednesday to Saturday in the Three Spires Shopping Centre.

Why are retailers closing stores?

Retailers have been feeling the squeeze since the pandemic, while shoppers are cutting back on spending due to the soaring cost of living crisis.

High energy costs and a move to shopping online after the pandemic are also taking a toll, and many high street shops have struggled to keep going.

However, additional costs have added further pain to an already struggling sector.

The British Retail Consortium has predicted that the Treasury’s hike to employer NICs from April will cost the retail sector £2.3billion.

At the same time, the minimum wage will rise to £12.21 an hour from April, and the minimum wage for people aged 18-20 will rise to £10 an hour, an increase of £1.40.

The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has also warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to shut down this year.

It comes on the back of a tough 2024 when 13,000 shops closed their doors for good, already a 28% increase on the previous year.

Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR said: “The results for 2024 show that although the outcomes for store closures overall were not as poor as in either 2020 or 2022, they are still disconcerting, with worse set to come in 2025.”

It comes after almost 170,000 retail workers lost their jobs in 2024.

End-of-year figures compiled by the Centre for Retail Research showed the number of job losses spiked amid the collapse of major chains such as Homebase and Ted Baker.

It said its latest analysis showed that a total of 169,395 retail jobs were lost in the 2024 calendar year to date.

This was up 49,990 – an increase of 41.9% – compared with 2023.

It is the highest annual reading since more than 200,000 jobs were lost in 2020 in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced retailers to shut their stores during lockdowns.

The centre said 38 major retailers went into administration in 2024, including household names such as Lloyds Pharmacy, Homebase, The Body ShopCarpetright and Ted Baker.

Around a third of all retail job losses in 2024, 33% or 55,914 in total, resulted from administrations.

Experts have said small high street shops could face a particularly challenging 2025 because of Budget tax and wage changes.

Professor Bamfield has warned of a bleak outlook for 2025, predicting that as many as 202,000 jobs could be lost in the sector.

“By increasing both the costs of running stores and the costs on each consumer’s household it is highly likely that we will see retail job losses eclipse the height of the pandemic in 2020.”

She told her followers: “Sorry I’ve been so quiet this week. We have a lickle surprise for you.”

Chloe then shared a series of pictures, writing: “Baby Edwards. 17/02/2025.”

Her famous pals rushed to comment on it, with Shelby Tribble writing: “Congratulations.”

Sophie Church remarked: “Congratulations my love.”

And Charlotte Dawson shared: “Congrats my lovely he’s beautiful.”

Chloe rose to prominence back in 2016 after appearing on Teen Mom UK when she had she son, aged 17 and has been featured in every season of the hit MTV show since.

She first fell pregnant after a course of antibiotics caused her contraceptive pill to fail and in early seasons of the show, was often seen having fiery arguments with her now fiancé Jordan.

But she’s in a much better place with Jordan these days, and he popped the question to her in 2022.

Chloe previously told how different her pregnancy was this time round.

Because she was just a teenager when she first found out she was pregnant, she was “terrified” of what others would think of her.

As a result, she barely left the house for the majority of her pregnancy, telling Fabulous: “I was really scared and frightened of people judging.

“I thought a lot of people wouldn’t agree that I was 17, it was quite controversial.

“I was super young. I was too scared to tell people. I thought people would pick on me or be mean or speak about me.

“I think you have this imagination of people shouting names at you in the street.

“At 17, obviously, I was so young and still a kid myself. I think I was just scared of the unknown and the reality of it kicking in that the more people that knew, the more it felt real.”

Chloe's thoughts on teenage pregnancy

DESPITE having a child at 17, Chloe told Fabulous why she wouldn't encourage others to do the same.

She explains: “I wouldn’t say I’m anti teen pregnancy, but if someone would say to me ‘I want a baby’ and they were under 18, I would be like, ‘no, wait! You’ve got your whole life’.

“Even though we did a great job and we’re very fortunate to have such a supportive family, it’s not always the case. We were lucky but we still missed out on a lot.

“I wouldn’t recommend people to have children young, because you have your whole life to have kids. Look at us, we’re only 26. I still feel really young to be having our second.

“Enjoy being young and being responsibility free. Having a baby is great, but it’s also extremely hard, and a huge responsibility, and life was easier with no responsibilities.”

Gang boss behind murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky ‘dies in jail’ – 20 years after cop gunned down on daughter’s birthday

THE Mastermind behind PC Sharon Beshenivsky’s murder has reportedly died behind bars just months after finally being caged.

Piran Ditta Khan, 76, planned an armed robbery in which PC Beshenivsky was shot to death in Bradford on 18 November 2005.

He was convicted of killing Pc Sharon Beshenivsky on November 18, in 2005[/caption]

After nearly 20 years on the run, the gang boss was extradited from Pakistan in 2023.

The monster was convicted of murder in May 2024 at Leeds Crown Court and sentenced to a minimum of 40 years behind bars.

The Prison Service confirmed the killer was discovered dead by staff at HMP Wakefield this morning.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “HMP Wakefield prisoner Piran Ditta Khan died on Friday 21 February.

“As with all deaths in custody, the Prison and Probation Ombudsman will investigate.”

As reported by the Mail, the 76-year-old was being treated for a “terminal illness” with round the clock care.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

PC Beshenivsky, 38, was gunned down while responding to an armed robbery at a travel agents in Bradford, West Yorkshire, in 2005.

Her colleague PC Teresa Milburn, who was 37 at the time, was left seriously injured after the shooter opened fire “indiscriminately” as he fled the scene.

Piran Ditta Khan, who planned the robbery, was also found guilty of two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.

Sentencing Khan last year, Mr Justice Hilliard told him: “You will inevitably spend the remainder of your life in custody, but that is a consequence of sentencing a man of your age for a crime of this particular gravity.

“You are responsible for the fact that you are being sentenced at the age of 75 and not at a younger age.

“You have had your younger and healthier years at liberty because you chose to leave the country when you feared you were about to be arrested.”

Khan is the seventh man to be convicted guilty over the botched robbery, which saw the gang flee with just £5,000.

At the time, PC Beshenivsky was only the second policewoman to be killed on duty in the UK.

She had tragically been preparing to head home for her daughter Lydia’s fourth birthday party when she received the fatal call.

In a heartbreaking victim impact statement, Lydia said she had a vague memory of a car showing up that night and thinking it was her mum returning.

and innocent” to understand at the time.

Lydia told Leeds Crown Court she “screamed her head off” after being told that her mum had died, but has no memory of it.

She added: “I remember asking when my mum was coming home and being confused about why she wasn’t coming home to see us,” she said.

“I have little to no memory of my mum. Growing up, I had to rely on my mum’s friends telling me about her and the things she liked to do.

“Even now I have to look at photos to remind me of my mum.”

Lydia also said she was proud of her mum for “doing the job she loved” and branded her a “hero who paid the ultimate sacrifice”.

She added: “There will always be a void in my life – a void that should have been filled with my mum’s presence but as a result of violent, callous actions by you, Piran Ditta Khan, and your associates that day, you robbed me of a future and precious time with my mum.

“Every birthday is a reminder of what happened that day. It has recently been Mother’s Day, and while my friends are celebrating with their mums, I sadly can never do that.”

PC Beshenivsky’s husband Paul said telling the children what had happened was “the hardest thing I have ever had to do”.

He added: “The way we lost Sharon was in the most brutal, callous and futile way.

“She never came home due to the actions and organisation of one person – Piran Ditta Khan.

“If Piran Ditta Khan had never organised the robbery, Sharon would never have been shot dead and she would have come home that day.”
