Dancing On Ice fix row as fans hit out at judges for showing ‘favouritism’ – and fume celeb is ‘overmarked’ weekly

DANCING On Ice fans have hit out at the judges for appearing to show favouritism towards one celebrity.

Viewers are convinced that The Only Way Is Essex star Dan Edgar has been receiving preferential treatment, which has propelled him to the top of the leadboard.

The 34-year-old and his pro partner – Vanessa James – have impressed Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse week after week.

But those watching at home aren’t quite so impressed.

One person commented: “Dan is the judges favourite even tho his staking and performance are boring because Vanessa just twirls around him.”

A second remarked: “Don’t vote for Dan, he is overmarked. He’s clearly judges favourite for final.”

While a third added: “Of course they were going to give the points to Dan’s team cos hes their favourite.”

And a fourth speculated: “Why do they want Dan to win so bad may I ask? They know Michaela is favourite to win and they’re doing everything to tear her down like they’ve done to every other female celeb that’s been on this show.

Last weekend Dan topped the leaderboard with his George Michael-themed routine to Faith, which landed him 38 points.

The week before he again secured a score of 38 out of 40 – after taking on the dangerous headbanger move.

The TV star also performed lifts and a cartwheel launch during the routine to Lionheart (Fearless) by Joel Corry and Tom Grennan.

Oti praised the performance as “unbelievable” and said she was “so proud” of Edgar.

Despite a small stumble at the beginning, Christopher Dean said the routine had “everything”.

“It had the power, it had the steps, it had the creativity and you topped it off with a headbanger – the only question is now what do you do?” he added.

Fresh blow to Rachel Reeves after surplus in govt finances comes in more than £5bn below forecasts

RACHEL Reeves has suffered a new setback after a surplus in government finances came in more than £5billion below forecasts.

It has left experts warning the Chancellor is on a “knife edge” of missing borrowing targets and having to raise taxes or cut spending to stay within her fiscal rules.

Figures showed a record £15.4billion surplus in January — driven by tax receipts from self-assessments.

But that was well below the £20.5billion sum that the Office for Budget Responsibility had planned for.

Public borrowing is now on course to come in significantly higher than the OBR’s prediction of £127.5billion.

The UK deficit for the first ten months of this financial year is £118.2billion — £12.8billion above the forecasts.

The government is also spending £6.5billion on debt interest payments — the second biggest sum in 27 years.

Economist Cara Pacitti, from Resolution Foundation, said Ms Reeves was being left “in the unenviable position of needing to raise taxes or cut spending to meet her fiscal rules at the OBR’s 26 March forecast”.

Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride said: “The latest borrowing figures expose the true cost of Labour’s reckless economic policies.”

Darren Jones, chief secretary to the Treasury, said: “We will never play fast and loose with the public finances, that’s why we’re going through every pound spent, line by line”

Labour accused of ‘betraying Brexit’ with plans to throw door open to tens of thousands more EU migrants

LABOUR was last night accused of “betraying Brexit” with plans to throw the door open to tens of thousands more EU migrants.

Sir Keir Starmer’s negotiators were said to have caved to Brussels’ demands for a youth mobility scheme as the price of smoother trading terms with the bloc.

The PM’s desired “reset” with the EU could also drag Britain back under the jurisdiction of its judges.

Tories last night warned against such a “capitulation” that would “sell out this country’s self-government to a foreign court”.

Meanwhile arch-Remainers like the Lib Dems and Greens gleefully delighted at the prospect.

Ministers are currently negotiating with Brussels to remove some post-Brexit frictions in the movement of certain goods.

One concession that has reportedly now been tabled would see under-30s from the continent be able to live and work in Britain for up to three years.

The numbers would be capped and participants would have to still have to pay the NHS surcharge, according to The Times.

Downing Street insisted they “do not have plans for a youth mobility agreement” but will “of course listen to sensible proposals”.

They also ruled out a return to free movement, and have promised to cut net migration.

But Shadow Foreign Secretary Dame Priti Patel blasted: “When Labour negotiates the UK loses.

“Within months of coming to office Labour are already betraying Brexit by steering Britain back to being a rule-taker and opening the door to free movement returning.”

Claims that alignment on trading rules would also put Britain under the European Court of Justice also sparked anger.

Former Brexit chief negotiator Lord Frost railed: “Shame on you Keir Starmer and Nick Thomas-Symonds for selling out this country’s self-government to a foreign court.”

Emmerdale fans ‘work out’ Joe Tate’s sinister storyline after drugging Noah Dingle in flashback scene

EMMERDALE viewers have ‘worked out’ Joe Tate’s sinister storyline – after drugging Noah Dingle in a flashback scene.

Ned Porteous reprised his role as Joe late last year – having left the ITV soap in 2018.

Since returning to the Dales, Joe has tried to form a relationship with half-brother Noah (Jack Downham).

Viewers are speculating over Joe’s sinister intentions – who has a mystery illness – as they shared their theories online.

One wrote on X: “So I take it Joe Tate needs a new heart and decided to try and steal Noah’s.”

Another penned: “I’m wondering if in @emmerdale, #Joe took #Noah to some dodgy clinic and was selling Noah’s kidney.

“After all, Joe’s got some mystery illness/lots of pain..”

A third penned: “Joe really tryna have Noah wake up in a bathtub full of ice and a missing kidney.”

While a fourth said: “Is anyone else thinking that Joe is after one of Noah’s kidneys?”

Scenes aired earlier in the week saw Noah wind up drugged and lying in the road.

Following this was a huge limo crash – which put several villagers’ lives in danger.

It saw the deaths of Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough), Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson).

When Noah woke up in hospital, doctors informed him that he’d likely been drugged.

A flashback later showed him trying to piece together what had happened.

Noah hazily recalled being in a hospital with two figures standing over him.

One appeared to be a doctor, who injected him with a syringe.

Darkest soap storylines

Over the years the likes of EastEndersEmmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock…

  • EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police.
  • Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose.
  • Hollyoaks: Luke’s rape (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap’s first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs – who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance.
  • Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – Just a mere mention of ‘Richard Hillman’ is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it’s not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn’t.
  • Viewers saw the other person was none other than Joe.

Meanwhile, Noah’s mum Charity (Emma Atkins) has openly distrusted Joe ever since he returned to the village.

What drama will unfold between them next?

Emmerdale airs on ITV1 and ITVX.

Ruben Amorim says sacked ex-Man Utd boss is doing a better job than him following horror start at Old Trafford

RUBEN AMORIM admits former Manchester United boss David Moyes is doing a better job than him.

The Scot has sent Everton bouncing up the Prem in his  second stint in charge, with four wins in six games since replacing Sean Dyche in January.

Moyes has endured a great manager bounce with Everton[/caption]

By contrast, Amorim takes his United side to Goodison on Saturday lunchtime on a nightmare run of eight Prem defeats in 12 games.

Portuguese boss Amorim said: “The simple thing is that David Moyes is doing a better job than me.

“It’s quite simple, small things like winning one game, winning two games, that belief.

“The pressure is not the same but we have to give merit to the players of Everton and especially to the coach of Everton.”

It is highly unusual for a manager to make such an admission.

Moyes’ last game as United boss was at Goodison on April 20, 2014 — a 2-0 defeat eight months after succeeding the legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

He was sacked two days later.

This weekend’s meeting will be the first since then that 15th-placed United have played Everton, who are 14th, while being beneath them in the table.

Moyes lived to regret moving to Old Trafford but Amorim says he has no such feelings  — yet.

The ex-Sporting Lisbon boss wanted to succeed Erik ten Hag in the summer but part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team made it clear to him in November that is was now or never.

Since then there have been only nine wins from 21 games in all competitions and Amorim admitted his stars have struggled to cope with his 3-4-3  system.

He even blasted it was “the worst” team in United’s history.

Amorim will have Christian Eriksen, Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte back from injury as he looks to halt the slide.

He said: “When you hear  four wins in my 14 league games for  Manchester United, you get really frustrated and angry.

“But let’s move on and we can change that in the next game.”

Moyes will not treat this game differently to any other.

He said: “I faced them a lot when I was manager of West Ham, so it’s another game.

“It’s a great football club but my job is to try to beat them.”

Meanwhile, United were handed a tricky Europa League last-16 tie against Spain’s Real Sociedad.

Amorim said: “If I focus on the games against Real Sociedad and think about trophies, it is not the right way to do my job.”
