Davy Russell reveals what made Michael O’Sullivan ‘something special’ from young age as he hails ‘guy for the ages’

DAVY RUSSELL described Michael O’Sullivan as a “guy for the ages” following his tragic death on Sunday.

O’Sullivan, 24, passed away ten days on from a terrible fall at Thurles on February 6.

The Cork rider suffered fatal head injuries after the fall from Wee Charlie in a handicap chase at the Tipperary track.

The remainder of the card was abandoned and Michael, who died just a few days short of his 25th birthday, was airlifted to Cork University Hospital where he remained before his sad passing on Sunday.

He will be laid to rest in his home county of Cork on Wednesday, with Gardai instituting traffic directives on the day of his wake, on Tuesday.

Former champion jockey Russell appeared on Off The Ball to pay tribute to O’Sullivan, with whose family Russell has a close relationship.

Reflecting on the Irishman’s fall, the 45-year-old said: “I was waiting for one of the horses to run in one of the maiden hurdles or something and just wasn’t coming up.

“Next thing, I looked and it said racing was delayed. Then you look to see who got falls.

“I rang Darragh O’Keeffe because I saw it was Michael who got the fall and I rang Darragh because I know Darragh sits beside him in the weight room and they sit in the same line where I used to sit.

“I just didn’t get a good feeling about the whole thing and Darragh said it didn’t look good.

“As days went by, there didn’t seem to be much improvement and, thankfully, I went up to see him.

“I went up to hospital to see his parents because I have known the O’;Sullivan’s for quite a number of years.

“I remember [Michael’s father] William was riding when Michael was born and Alan a few years later.

“I went up to see them and they were very hopeful that things could happen but, unfortunately, he fought very hard but he wasn’t able to pull through.”

Russell’s relationship with the O’Sullivan family goes back to before Michael was born.

He revealed that he lived with Eugene – Michael’s uncle – while he looked up to his father William.

Michael O’Sullivan lived up to his family’s billing, landing his first Cheltenham winners in 2023.

Indeed, Russell disclosed that he first knew he was going to be something special at a very early age.

‘SOMETHING SPECIAL’

The 2014 Gold Cup winner explained: “I was asked to go down to the Duhallow pony club.

“I was going well at the time and I might have won the Gold Cup or something like that.

“They asked me to go down to present some prizes to the kids down at the pony club which you do.

“There were two kids in specific down there. Every word that came out of my mouth, they watched me from the moment I arrived and I just took a second and asked someone who were the two boys.

“One of them was Alan and the other one was Michael O’Sullivan.

“We gave them their prizes and I followed them from there on in.

“Both of them were good good riders. Better than good.

“I have a fierce grá for Alan. He is a very talented chap. Well educated, done their college degrees.

“Michael just showed something that he was going to be special. He was neat and tidy but he explored every bit of the equestrian world.

“From hunting to eventing, messing around riding ponies. He really enjoyed it.

“I spoke to him a number of times on different occasions.

“Obviously I was with him in the weight room as a jockey and very friendly with him.

“He would often ring me looking for advice – not advice really, just his dad was the main and his mam was the love of his life.

“He would often ring to say, ‘what do you think of this?’ or ‘what do you think of that?’

“I would give my opinion and he would go and make his own mind up. He was that type of a guy.

“He asked for advice but he dissected it himself in a good way. He was a great lad to be around.”

LASTING LEGACY

O’Sullivan was one of the rising stars of the weighing room.

He hit the big time when he won the 2024 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle on Barry Connell’s Marine Nationale.

And he made it an incredible day-one double later with victory in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap on Jazzy Matty.

However, Russell believes his lasting legacy will be that of a gentleman who just so happened to be a jockey.

He said: “I think the one mark that he left was that, if anybody spoke to him, they felt he was a gentlemen.

“He was a guy for the ages. He was a cut off his father.

“It is a trait that comes through with his family and if you are rearing a chap, you would want him to turn out like Michael O’Sullivan.

“His tidiness and his cleanliness and his dedication and his approach to life was very much a pleasing one.

“He was always out to please people and be there to help someone if you needed it.

“The one mark he left on everybody was he was a gentlemen.”

New sighting of infamous ‘Bushman’ armed bandit on run with ‘gang’ of his kids aged 9 to 11 in bizarre case gripping NZ

INFAMOUS fugitive dad Tom Phillips and his three children may have been spotted again in the latest twist to the bizarre case gripping New Zealand for years.

The Marokopa man, who has been on the run with his kids since 2021, was allegedly spotted in a layby on State Highway 4, south of Te Kūiti, on Sunday morning.

A member of the public reported seeing a group of four people — an adult male and three children — dressed in camouflage around 8.30 am, The New Zealand Herald reports.

“Police are now working to establish whether this is a credible sighting and are working to rule out other possible scenarios,” a police spokesperson said.

ON THE RUN

Phillips, 36, has been hiding in the New Zealand wilderness with his children – Jayda, 11, Maverick, 10 and Ember, nine – since December 2021.

The last confirmed appearance of the runaway dad – dubbed ‘the Bushman’ for his ability to live off-grid – and his children was in October last year.

Two teenage pig hunters captured footage of the group trekking through farmland in bushland west of Coutts Road in Marokopa.

“This is the first time all three of the children have been sighted, which is positive information, and we know it will be reassuring for the children’s wider family,” police said at the time.

The sighting triggered a three-day search involving a military helicopter, but Phillips and the children disappeared again.

Phillips isn’t just wanted for taking his children.

Police allege he was caught on CCTV attempting to rob a Piopio store in November 2023.

The masked pair — believed to be Phillips and one of his children — were seen smashing the shop’s front glass before fleeing.

He’s also accused of robbing a bank and firing a gun at a supermarket worker in Te Kūiti in May 2023.

Police believe Phillips fled into the wilderness after losing legal custody of his children to Oranga Tamariki, New Zealand’s child welfare agency.

“That’s effectively why we believe he has taken the children, over custody,” Acting Detective Inspector Andrew Saunders previously said.

Saunders also suggested Phillips may have used his first disappearance in September 2021 as a “warm-up” for his long-term escape.

DESPERATE MUM’S PLEA

The children’s mum, Cat, has repeatedly begged for their return.

“I am standing here before you today begging you for your help to bring my babies home,” she said in an emotional video plea last year.

“They are just innocent children, they do not deserve to be treated this way. They do not deserve the life that is being provided to them right now.”

Cat has accused Phillips of using their children as “pawns in his game” and believes he is being helped by a network of supporters.

Criminal psychologist Dr. Tim Watson-Munro has warned of the long-term effects on the children, saying: “I would worry professionally about their psychological wellbeing arising from all of this.

” I mean, it’s an abnormal type of life for young kids to lead.”

Police are urging anyone who may have seen Phillips or his children to come forward.

Who is 'The 'Bushman' Tom Phillips?

TOM Phillips is a fugitive father from New Zealand who has been on the run with his three children since December 2021.

His case has gripped the country, with police launching multiple searches and appeals for information.

Phillips first vanished with his children—Jayda, Ember, and Maverick—on September 11, 2021.

The family was missing for three weeks before unexpectedly returning home.

Phillips claimed they had been living off the grid in the remote bushland near Marokopa, a small coastal settlement in the Waikato region.

Following this, a court granted legal custody of the children to Oranga Tamariki, New Zealand’s child welfare agency.

Just a few months later, in December 2021, Phillips disappeared again—this time for good.

Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court on charges related to his first disappearance.

Since then, he and his children have been living in the wilderness, avoiding authorities.

Phillips has been spotted multiple times over the years, often dressed in camouflage and carrying survival gear.

He is believed to be living off the land, relying on his bushcraft skills.

Each time, Phillips has managed to slip away before authorities could catch him.

Police believe Phillips fled into the wilderness because he lost custody of his children.

“That’s effectively why we believe he has taken the children, over custody,” Acting Detective Inspector Andrew Saunders said.

Some experts suggest his first disappearance in September 2021 was a “test run” for his long-term escape.

Neil Robertson bags £150,000 bonus despite not even playing as snooker rival Mark Selby does him massive favour

NEIL ROBERTSON has landed a £150,000 windfall – without even having to pick up his snooker cue.

The Australian bagged the cash after Mark Selby beat Luca Brecel on his way to the Welsh Open crown.

Selby saw off the Belgian Bullet before overcoming Stephen Maguire 9-6 in the final.

The player with the highest earnings in the Home Nations Series bags a £150k bonus.

Robertson, 43, led the standings going into last week’s tournament in Llandudno.

He was knocked out in the second round by Tom Ford – and therefore needed a favour from Selby.

Brecel was the only man who could reel in Robertson in the race for the cash.

But defeat in the semi-final for the 2023 world champion meant the Aussie walked away with the jackpot.

Taking to X, Robertson showed his appreciation for Selby’s efforts.

He penned a short tweet putting Selby’s name alongside a love heart emoji.

Ex-pro Neal Foulds declared Robertson had been lucky to walk away with the bonus.

Speaking to Eurosport, he said: “He’s kind of won it by default in a way.

“I mean, he’s obviously picked up more money than anyone else, but the amount of people that were queueing up to take it off him, and none of them did.

“It’s happened like that a couple of times now. So congratulations to him. He’s the rightful winner.”

Brecel’s defeat to Selby means he misses out on the Grand Prix in Hong Kong.

He needed a triumph in Llandudno to move into the top 32 of the one-year rankings.

Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O’Sullivan share the record for the most titles in the modern era, with seven each.

Brecel said: “I’m a bit disappointed. Obviously, I wanted to go to Hong Kong for the Grand Prix.

” But maybe it’s a bit of karma for not entering all the tournaments this year. I think I maybe skipped five or six tournaments.

“It is what it is. I had my chances I guess; I didn’t take them well. It’s all about building up the game for the World Championship, I guess, this season. It’s the only one I’ve got left.

“So for me, that’s the big one and I’m happy to be going there with a bit of confidence and some results.”

Todd Boehly’s genius plan isn’t so bright after all… two trips to Brighton have sent Chelsea’s season into a tailspin

EATEN in consecutive weeks by their own ‘nursery club’, Chelsea’s season is threatening to implode.

In the early part of Todd Boehly’s Stamford Bridge reign, the American signed off almost a quarter of a billion pounds on recruiting members of Brighton and Hove Albion’s staff.

From the British-record signing of Moises Caicedo to the poaching of Graham Potter and his entire backroom team.

From the eye-watering £62million fee agreed for full-back Marc Cucurella to the unconvincing goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to sporting director Paul Winstanley, there seemed an obsession with all things Brighton.

So it seemed particularly galling that after all that headhunting, Chelsea should be knocked out of the FA Cup, then handed their heaviest defeat of the Premier League season by the club they had supposedly gutted.

Throw in Enzo Maresca’s spat with Brighton’s spiky German child-boss Fabian Hurzeler and those two trips to good old Sussex by the sea have sent Chelsea’s campaign into a tailspin.

Now Chelsea are after Brighton’s Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma, who scored my goal of the season against them in Friday’s 3-0 drubbing at the Amex.

Mitoma, who famously wrote a university thesis on the art of dribbling, must have been indulging in more footballing intellectualism before he scored it.

A practical exam question: “Imagine what sort of goal Dimitar Berbatov could have scored if he’d been blessed with pace.”

Well that was it. And Chelsea only have seven senior wingers either in the building, out on loan or, in the case of £62m Mykhailo Mudryk, idling having failed a drug test.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

Maybe they need another one. Or two. Yankuba Minteh of Brighton looks pretty good.

Maresca, a curious appointment to replace Mauricio Pochettino in the summer, diminished his standing with Blues fans by claiming the Cup defeat would allow his team to concentrate on the league and the Conference League.

Chelsea FC 2024/25 EPL top scorers: Cole Palmer (14), Nicolas Jackson (9), Noni Madueke (7), Trevoh Chalobah (3), Enzo Fernández (3), Jadon Sancho (2), Christopher Nkunku (2), Pedro Neto (2), Marc Cucurella (2). Chelsea's next five games schedule.

Some of us can remember Jose Mourinho mocking old sparring partner Rafa Benitez for winning the Europa League while Chelsea’s interim boss.

Mourinho claimed the club should never have been in Uefa’s second-tier competition.

What the old Special One would think of a Stamford Bridge boss concentrating on the third-class Conference League — in which Chelsea have so far, from memory, beaten Noah and the Whale, Mumford and Sons and Camper Van Beethoven — is anyone’s guess.

Who do Chelsea think they are? West Ham or something?

The back-to-back defeats are part of an 11-match run during which Chelsea have beaten only Morecambe, Wolves and,  fortuitously, Potter’s Hammers.

During this time they have increasingly resembled a bunch of talented youngsters in dire need of guidance from some grown-ups.

Boehly’s Chelsea project is based on the ‘genius’ idea of signing up dozens of young prospects on vastly lengthy contracts. And so this was always likely to happen.

Alan Hansen was lampooned for insisting “You can’t win anything with kids,” when  Manchester United’s Class of ’92 began to emerge at the start of the 1995-96 campaign — a season when Sir Alex Ferguson’s side went on to win the Double.

But that United squad included  seasoned campaigners such as Eric Cantona, Peter Schmeichel, Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Denis Irwin and Brian McClair

Chelsea do not have a single outfield player over 30.

Even the outstanding 22-year-old Cole Palmer is showing the strain of having carried Chelsea for 18 months.

In April, Palmer missed a visit to Arsenal and Pochettino urged his players to prove ‘they are not Cole Palmer FC’. Chelsea lost 5-0.

Maresca correctly claimed his side were not ready for a title challenge when things looked rosy earlier in the season.

Yet he now faces the prospect of failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Fifth should be good enough. Chelsea are sixth and shot of confidence.

Is Maresca under threat? Maybe but what good would a sixth manager in 2½ seasons be when Boehly’s entire project looks so flawed.

Not even Brighton try to win solely with kids.

AN EFFIN’ BIG DEAL

Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid receives a red card from a referee.
Reuters
Jude Bellingham was sent off in Real Madrid’s draw with Osasuna[/caption]

AS THE only manager to have won the title in all five major European leagues, Carlo Ancelotti can swear proficiently in five different languages.

So when Jude Bellingham was sent off for using foul and abusive language at a referee during Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Saturday, Ancelotti, 65, played the cunning linguist card.

The Real boss claimed: “I think the referee did not understand Jude Bellingham’s English. He said ‘f*** off’, not ‘f*** you’ . . . that’s way different.”

This opens up an entire can of foul-mouthed worms.

Firstly, is ‘f*** you’ really significantly stronger than ‘f*** off’?

Given that ‘f***’ is the most versatile word in the English language, should Spanish referees really be expected to understand the nuances of its myriad uses?

Are Premier League refs trained to understand the usage of foreign swear words so as to weigh up whether any specific instance merits a red card?

And if not, does this give overseas players an advantage over native English speakers in our top flight?

Or maybe Bellingham should simply stop swearing at officials all the time.

MIGHTY MOUSH

Omar Marmoush of Manchester City celebrating a goal.

Omar Marmoush netted a stunning hat-trick against Newcastle[/caption]

MANCHESTER CITY clearly signed a couple of seriously good players in January.

So why didn’t boss Pep Guardiola have the nerve to start either Omar Marmoush or Nico Gonzalez in the first leg of City’s Champions League play-off against Real Madrid?

In Saturday afternoon’s 4-0 humping of Newcastle, Marmoush bagged a hat-trick, while midfield anchor-man Gonzalez was dubbed ‘mini-Rodri’ by his manager.

Guardiola reckons his side have just a one per cent chance of overturning a 3-2 deficit in the second leg at the Bernabeu tomorrow night.

But with those two in the team, City’s chances should be a whole lot better.

OLIVER’S TWIST

MANAGERIAL touchline fashions have become fascinating in recent years.

From Roberto Mancini’s Man City scarf to Pep Guardiola’s roll-necks to Scott Parker’s entire wardrobe,  fashionistas have often salivated.

Yet for me, a middle-aged man who spends a lot of winter evenings out in the cold watching football, there is a clear winner.

Which is why I hope that I’ll soon be able to choose from the Oliver Glasner Alpine Knitwear Collection at the Crystal Palace club shop.

START TO AD UP

Adama Traore impressed against Nottingham Forest[/caption]

SINCE Adama Traore arrived in England a decade ago, the Spaniard has had the potential to be the most fearsome winger in football.

Built like a bull but blessed with Speedy Gonzalez pace, there has been a tendency to watch Traore and say: “Imagine if he could cross a ball.”

Well, under Fulham’s hugely underrated boss Marco Silva, Traore has learned how to at the age of 29 — as exemplified in his man-of-the-match display against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The prospect for Premier League left-backs is terrifying.

HEADING SOUTH

WHILE Southampton’s death march towards relegation continued with a home loss to Bournemouth, cameras panned to their greatest Premier League player — the wild conspiracy theorist Matt Le Tissier.

“I wonder if he’s got his boots,” said the Match of the Day commentator.

“I wonder if he believes Southampton’s disastrous season is down to the malign influence of a shady international cartel run by an evil reptile overlord,” said me.

The TV also has a completely redesigned Sky software experience, a built-in soundbar and subwoofer, and three size options (43-, 55-, and 65-inch.)

Sky Glass is available in five unique colours; Ocean Blue, Ceramic White, Racing Green, Dusky Pink, and Anthracite Black.

The TV is available either as a one-off purchase or as part of a Sky Glass contract.

If you choose the first payment option, you’ll spend £599 when you bag the 43-inch version, £849 if you prefer the 55-inch offering, and for those who love the 65-inch model, you can expect to pay £1,099.

Of course, you’ll still have to pay a monthly subscription to watch Sky channels.

The upfront cost means that a Sky Glass package deal is often more appealing and budget-friendly.

Check out the deals above, where we’ve rounded up the best pay-monthly bundles.

If you want to learn more, have a read of our Sky Glass TV explainer.

What is Sky Q?

Sky Q was once Sky’s premium service, but it’s perhaps not as popular as the platform’s other packages now.

Essentially, Sky Q is a family of services integrated into either a 1TB or 2TB set-top-box with smart TV features and Ultra HD support (for the 2TB version).

Sky also offers a Q Mini box, a device that connects to your main Sky Q box to watch TV in other rooms.

The Sky Q remote included in the box can control both devices via Bluetooth and features a built-in microphone to allow for voice search functionality.

Since the Sky Q main box includes 12 TV tuners, you can simultaneously record up to six channels and share content around the house at the same time.

How much do the Sky Q boxes cost?

The cheapest Sky Q box subscription starts at £31 a month for a 24-month deal, plus there’s a set-up fee of £20.

For this, you’ll get the Sky Q 1TB box.

The boxes themselves don’t cost anything – they simply come from Sky and are included in your subscription.

If you’re hoping to customise your plan, then you’re in luck, as there are discounts up for grabs on TV extras such as Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, and Sky Kids.

What channels are on Sky Entertainment?

Sky’s Entertainment bundle includes roughly 30 dedicated Sky channels in addition to the Freeview ones.

Arguably the most viewed is Sky Atlantic, being the one where all of HBO’s latest programs can be watched.

Sky One is another channel that has seen a spike in views in recent years, broadcasting shows such as Modern Family, In The Long Run, and The Simpsons.

Other entertainment channels include Sky Living, Fox, and Universal, as well as Comedy Central and Gold.

There’s also a whole host of children’s channels so your little ones can catch up on shows such as Dennis and Gnasher, Dragons: The Nine Realms, The Deep, Danger Mouse, and more.

What Channels are on Sky Sports?

Sky has a long history of excellence when it comes to sports channels, and despite competitors such as BT having stepped up their game, Sky’s Sports channel portfolio is still one of the best.

The main sports channel available to Sky premium customers is Sky Sports Main Event, showing all main events across different sports.

Other channels focus on individual sports, with some of the most viewed being Sky Sports Premier League, Sky Sports Cricket, Sky Sports Golf, and Sky Sports F1.

Football fans also get a Sky Sports Football channel, offering a comprehensive number of lower league matches.

Can I watch BT Sport ESPN on Sky?

Yes, you can!

BT Sport ESPN is included in the Sky Sports package.

You can find BT Sport ESPN on Sky Channel 423 if you want to watch it in HD and Channel 876 if, for some reason, you need an SD stream.

If you’re not familiar with this particular channel, BT Sport ESPN originally belonged to US-based sports broadcaster ESPN.

While it was acquired by BT in 2013, the channel continued to mainly focus on coverage of American sports.

Because of this, on BT Sport ESPN, you can follow most Major League Baseball (MLB) and American College sports matches.

The channel also occasionally shows European sports when BT Sport 1, 2, and 3 are covering other matches.

What HD Channels do I get on Sky?

Many HD channels are already available in the basic Sky package.

These include BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four and BBC News.

CBBC and CBeebies are also available in high definition without the need for further upgrades, together with ITV, 4, 5, NHK World, and RT.

Sky HD boasts over 40 channels in high definition, including Sky Atlantic, Fox, and many more.

How do I get the best deal on Sky?

Sky periodically promotes sales on their deals, bringing their prices down on particular occasions and festivities throughout the year.

Watch out for sales around Christmas time, Easter, and of course, Black Friday.

If you feel particularly inclined to haggle, Sky also offers a ‘Stay with Sky’ page, where you can speak with an adviser.

Is Sky cheaper than Virgin?

When it comes to standard price per month, Sky’s Essential TV package, which also includes Netflix, starts from £15 per month.

Virgin is primarily a broadband provider and, therefore, does not have a TV-only package in the UK.

Instead, Virgin offers a Bigger Combo bundle for £33 per month.

The package features M350 Fibre Broadband, access to perks and experiences with Priority, and over 200 TV channels.

What is Sky’s cheapest package?

Sky offers a range of services, from broadband and TV to their Sky Q streaming services, so it depends on what you’re after, as prices will vary greatly depending on whether or not you want multiple services or just one.

However, from our findings, you can get Sky broadband for as little as £25 a month.

Sky stream packages start from £15 per month including Sky Entertainment and Netflix, then you can purchase additional TV packs as required,

Lastly, Sky Glass packages start from £27 per month, allowing you to again build a plan that’s specific to your interests and needs so you can get the most out of your money.

What are the best Sky TV deals available now?

There are a few deals and discounts Sky is currently offering, as well as some recurrent deals that are definitely worth considering.

You can find all of the best deals, including those in this guide, on the Sky website.

Sky’s Glass subscriptions are certainly worth considering if you want to secure a TV package and a shiny new screen in one fell swoop.

How much is Sky TV for new customers?

The overall price of your package will depend on your personal preferences.

All new customers have to pay a £20 set-up fee, which goes up to £49 for existing customers upgrading to Sky Q.

Of course, the price includes the installation of both broadband and phone lines, as well as the TV box setup.

Do existing Sky customers get better deals?

While Sky typically offers better deals to new customers (often in an attempt to poach them from competitors), the company does have a dedicated page listing discounts for existing customers.

In addition, there’s something else existing customers can do to get better prices; haggling.

We have a dedicated guide to the art of haggling, but it essentially involves letting your service provider know that you will leave them for a chapter alternative unless they give you a better deal.

We believe this is currently the best way for Sky’s existing customers to save some extra cash.

Sky deals for existing customers

Currently, existing customers can enjoy several deals.

Here are a few of our favourite offers existing customers can snap up today:

Is Netflix free on Sky?

Netflix Basic is included in all of Sky’s TV packages.

With the basic subscription option, you can watch films and TV shows on a single screen and not in HD.

If you do want HD, however, you can purchase the Sky HD pack to watch Netflix in HD (Netflix Standard) or the Sky Ultra HD pack to watch Netflix in Ultra HD (Netflix Premium).

If you already have a Netflix subscription, you can easily connect your account to retain your library and profiles.

Can you still get Sky+?

For new customers, Sky+ is no longer available as Sky Q replaced the Sky+ service in 2016.

However, existing customers can continue to use the box.

I tried Love Island Elma’s peel off lip liner hack on my whole face – trolls say it looks like ‘road rash’

PEEL off lip liner has become all the rage for perfecting the perfect pout.

One woman decided to see if the make-up product would have the same effect for creating a blushing glow.

Love Island’s Elma Pazar applied lip stain liner during her appearance on the All Stars series[/caption]

In her viral video, TikTok user Rachel Alexandra (@rachelalexandra) tried out the unique beauty hack.

She filmed the entire process for her followers, showing them the striking results.

“Blush would have been just fine but [I] saw someone put the viral peel off lip stain all over her face so [I] had to try,” Rachel explained.

Love Island’s Elma Pazar is one of many celebrity fans of a lip stain look.

The 32-year-old, who placed fifth in the reality show alongside Sammy Root, is said to have smuggled her go-to WONDERSKIN Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque into the villa.

Given Boots is the official supplier for the series, Elma had to be subtle when it came to the £18 buy, which is not available at the high-street retailer.

Available from Amazon or Beauty Bay, the item is designed to give you fuller-looking lips with a hyper-stain.

The waterproof colour doesn’t transfer, fade, feather, or need touching up.

Some beauty fanatics decided to test if the product could be used to create a low maintenance blush look.

Rachel applied the lip stain to her upper cheeks as well as the bridge of her nose.

After leaving the product to set, she carefully peeled it off and gave the camera a panicked look as she took in the harsh contrast.

The TikToker decided to use a face cloth to attempt to blend out the lip stain.

She rubbed vigorously, pausing a few times to show her stress to her audience.

Rachel gave a sarcastic thumbs up as she removed the product from her nose to reveal what looked like a bloody scrape.

“Sometimes the beauty hacks work and sometimes they aren’t worth the effort,” she concluded in the clip’s caption.

Rachel revealed that she planned to “stick to” her trusted liquid blush in the future.

TikTok users shared their thoughts on the hack in the comments section.

“A lil bit of road rash didn’t hurt no one,” joked one viewer.

“You know what, I saw your vision though and that’s what counts,” said another follower.

“It’s cute but the process of even watching this stressed me out,” commented a third person.

Moment violent robber among hundreds of Scots prisoners freed by SNP’s controversial early release scheme

THE first prisoner out of Edinburgh’s tough Saughton nick was a violent robber released at around 9.30am.

The con – named Ian – was out just three weeks early from from a two-year stretch for assault and robbery.

Michael Schofield
Prisoners will be released in three tranches, with the first starting today[/caption]

He said: “I’m really happy to be out. I’ve been in for too long.

“I’ve just done two years for assault and robbery but the whole story was a fabrication.

“I’m only out three weeks early so it’s not much of a difference.

“Inside at the moment it’s not too bad to be honest.

“I am now going to go and sort my life out.”

One early release Barlinnie con told of his relief at getting out from a sentence for endangerment to life.

The 32-year-old who refused to give his name: “It’s grim inside and I’m glad to be out.”

He was one of eight prisoners who were liberated but some were not early release and had been let it through the normal release procedures.

They were all carrying prison issue black bags as they left the main entrance.

The first of up to 390 prisoners are being released early as the Scottish Government attempts to tackle overcrowding in the country’s prisons.

Emergency legislation passed by MSPs in November will change the release point for those serving prison sentences of less than four years from 50% of their sentence to 40%.

The Scottish Government said it expects the change to bring about a 5% reduction in the prison population.

Prisoners will be released in three tranches, with the first starting today and ending on Thursday.

The second tranche will take place from March 4-6, and the third will take place from March 18-20.

Those convicted of domestic abuse or sexual offences will not be released early under the changes.

Justice Secretary Angela Constance said the release of prisoners was needed to battle the high prison population.

She said those being released were serving a “wide range” of sentences, including for violent crimes and crimes of dishonesty.

She told the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland programme: “It is fair to say that in terms of crimes of violence that is not an insignificant proportion of people serving short-term sentences.

“But the important point, and the raison d’etre of this legislation, is that we need to achieve a sustained reduction in the prison population that is necessary to ensure that our prisons can continue to accommodate those who pose the greatest risk of harm, and also to support rehabilitation in order to reduce re-offending.

“There is an inextricable link between the work that goes on in prisons and the safety of our community.”

Real Madrid vs Man City prediction: Free betting tips, odds and Champions League preview for huge Bernabeu second leg

Real Madrid vs Manchester City preview

On paper, it looks a huge task for Manchester City to overturn a deficit in Madrid this week.

On the pitch, you just don’t know what side is going to turn up at the minute.

Pep Guardiola’s men looked set to take a lead to Spain when heading into the final five minutes or so in front.

To go on to lose the game is quite ridiculous but probably in tone with what City have produced in the past couple of months.

They were really good on Saturday, for all that Newcastle just didn’t turn up at the Etihad again, so need to replicate that and more to progress.

Their last visit to the Bernabeu was enthralling. A 3-3 draw in the quarter finals last year where they led, trailed, led again and were pegged back late on.

Madrid have conceded in five of their last six home games, so City more than likely will get themselves on the scoresheet. It’s the defensive side that will worry supporters.

Real Madrid vs Man City predictions and tips

Frustration

It looks like Antonio Rudiger is fit to return for the second leg having missed out in Manchester last week.

His battles with Erling Haaland were crucial last year and he’s going to fancy getting the better of the Norwegian here.

Haaland has been given it back to his opponents more and more in this recent run and that’s a tussle that could quite easily spill over in what’s sure to be a passionate contest.

  • Erling Haaland to be carded at 3/1 – CLAIM HERE

Goals aplenty

These sides have shared 17 goals in the last four fixtures between them in the Champions League.

Given City’s defensive concerns, their best form of defence is likely attack. And this attack will cause huge problems to Madrid.

Likely to be another high-scoring affair with tie to be decided on the night.

Seven signs your phone has been hijacked from heat to bad battery – and the sinister clue your LOCATION is being watched

IF your phone has rubbish battery life and gets hotter than the inside of a McDonald’s Apple Pie, you might have been hijacked.

Don’t just put it down to your phone’s old age – there’s a chance you’re in real danger.

Illustration of signs your phone may be hacked, including overheating, slow performance, battery drain, and a green dot at the top of the screen.

There are loads of subtle signs that your iPhone or Android has been hijacked by hackers.

The good news is that you use your phone every day. That means you’re in the best place to notice when something is wrong.

Sure, it might be nothing. But I’m always on the look-out for the danger signs below – and you should be too.

If you notice any of them, it’s time to go full Sherlock and start investigating.

CLUE #1 – THE WAY YOUR PHONE FEELS

Sometimes, you can actually “feel” that your phone has been hacked.

That’s because often, a hacked phone will be doing stuff in the background.

It might be using your device to give fake views to ads (to make money for crooks), or hoovering up your personal info to beam it over the internet, or even recording everything you do. Creepy.

All of this uses power – just like if you yourself were using your phone.

So you might notice that your phone is getting warmer than usual for no reason. Maybe it’s running slower, or the battery life is dropping without explanation.

All of these issues can have totally normal causes, but they should still set alarm bells ringing.

WHAT TO DO

For some easy sleuthing, go into your phone’s battery settings. This works on both iPhone and Android.

Look at the apps using up battery. On iPhone, you can see what’s draining your charge in the background.

If an app is working hard in the background and you can’t work out why, it’s a sign that something is very wrong.

iPhone battery usage by app: Health (2m), Gmail (35m), Safari (25m), Reddit (48m).
The Sun
You can see how much battery life specific apps are draining overall – as well as in the background[/caption]

If you don’t care about the app, just delete it. At worst, you’ll save some battery life – and at best, you’ll avoid dangerous spying.

CLUE #2 – MYSTERIOUS CHANGES

Alright, so you’ve felt your phone. Now look at it. Properly.

Have you noticed any odd changes? For example, have any of your settings mysteriously been tweaked?

Worse still, are you seeing any apps installed that you don’t remember downloading?

Both of those are major red flags that your gadget has been compromised.

It’s also possible that someone close to you is the person doing the spying.

WHAT TO DO

There are two specific settings that you should look for right away if you’ve got an iPhone.

Go into Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Share My Location.

iPhone Location Services settings screen.
The Sun
Check the Share My Location tab to see if someone is spying on your movements[/caption]

This will show a list of anyone that you’re sharing your location with.

If someone is on this list, they can watch your every move on a virtual map.

Chances are you added the people on the list yourself – but if you didn’t, revoke their access.

Secondly, go to Settings > [Name] and scroll down until you start seeing a long list of devices.

These are all the gadgets signed into your Apple account.

If someone is signed into your Apple ID, they can not only see your location but almost everything you do.

Tap on each device to see the serial number, then check those against the devices you own.

If you don’t recognise one, remove it from your account and immediately change your Apple password.

SPY IN YOUR MIDST

It’s important to remember that it might not be a hacker spying on you – but someone close to you...

This could be a friend or family member, a colleague, or someone you see regularly.

If you think someone is checking up on your phone, there are some checks you must make right away.

Go into Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Share My Location.

This will show you a list of anyone that has constant access to your live location. It’s possible that a stalker has added themselves to your list. Remove them (but be aware they’ll be able to see their access has been revoked).

Next, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Safety Check.

This guides you through a simple process to review, update, and stop your iPhone from sharing info with people or apps.

You’ll be able to see if anyone is accessing your location, viewing your photos, or logging into your Apple ID.

If you’re worried, you can tap Emergency Reset to immediately cut off all access.

And there’s a Quick Exit button at the top-right of the screen that instantly saves your changes and closes the Settings app.

Picture Credit: The Sun / Apple

Otherwise you’re leaving yourself wide open to spying.

CLUE #3 – CHECK YOUR DATA

This clue is a continuation of the one above.

If crooks are siphoning info from your phone – or running schemes in the background – then your data usage can mysteriously rise.

WHAT TO DO

One way to check if you’re going over on data is to look at your phone bill.

But a more useful way is to head into your phone’s data settings.

If you’ve got an iPhone, grab it and go to Settings > Mobile Data.

Then scroll down and look at your Mobile Data section – and tap Show All at the bottom.

iPhone screen showing cellular data usage by app.
The Sun
You can easily see which apps are draining your mobile data – and if any suspicious downloads seem to be gobbling up way too much[/caption]

You can then view how much data individual apps have been using.

It’s a similar story for Android phones: just go into your phone’s Network settings, and make your way to App Data Usage.

If an app that you use all the time on-the-go like YouTube has high data usage, that’s probably fine.

After all, it’s a video app that you’re using often, so it would naturally gobble up plenty of data.

But if you’re seeing an odd app consume a lot of data, that’s a bad sign – especially if you don’t recognise it.

Consider deleting any suspicious app that’s using a lot of data.

CLUE #4 – MYSTERY MESSAGE

A major sign of a hack won’t be on your phone – but someone else’s.

An easy way to tell if you’ve been hacked if you notice strange messages to friends, family, or coworkers that you didn’t send.

CHECK YOUR MIC AND CAMERA

Think someone is watching through your camera or listening via the microphone?

Thankfully it’s easy enough to check.

Both iPhone and Android will flag when your mic or camera is in use.

On an iPhone, you’ll see a green dot on the status bar for the camera – or an orange dot with the microphone.

And an Android phone will simply show a microphone or camera symbol on the status bar instead.

You can also dive into your privacy settings to see more info about how your camera or microphone are being used.

This includes exactly which apps are using them.

So if you see any suspicious apps accessing your camera or microphone when they shouldn’t be, revoke their access immediately.

Picture Credit: The Sun / Apple

These are often attempts by crooks to use your identity to scam other people.

But a clever crook will cover their tracks, deleting evidence of outgoing messages on your apps.

So if a friend or family member tells you on a chat app, over the phone or in person that they’ve had an odd message from you, act fast.

If they’ve had the text, chances are that other people have too.

Change your passwords on the affected apps immediately – and consider deleting any suspicious apps that you’ve recently downloaded.

WHAT TO DO

One of the best things you can do to get ready for this kind of attack is set up a safe word with your family.

Then if any of you receives a message from a family member asking for money, you can use the safe word to verify their identity.

iPhone text message requesting £200 with a request for a safe word.
The Sun
If you get a text from a loved one asking for money, using a safe word is an easy way to resolve the situation[/caption]

Just don’t pick something too obvious, like the city you live in.

CLUE #5 – LOCKED OUT

Another dead giveaway is if you’re suddenly locked out of a service.

Unless you’ve been banned (and you’d probably have a good idea about that), not being able to get into an app or account is a major sign of a hack.

WHAT TO DO

iPhone screen showing options to set up a verification code using a setup key or by scanning a QR code.
The Sun
If you get locked out of your account, make sure to change your password and add a verification code once you get back in[/caption]

First, go into your emails to check for any messages about changed passwords.

Then try to get back into the account by resetting the password.

Once you’re in, add a two-factor authentication immediately. That’s the feature that means you’ll be sent a special code every time you log in.

With that set up, you should be able to block people from logging in.

Many apps will let you see who else is logged into your account. That includes Facebook, Netflix, and even your Apple account.

If you see any dodgy devices that you don’t recognise, boot them out using the security page for that app.

For checking your Apple account specifically, just open your iPhone, go to Settings > [Name], scroll down, and look at the list of devices.

You can tap each one to see its serial number. Compare that to your own gadget. If it doesn’t match, revoke access immediately. That way, the person won’t be able to spy on you any more.

EXTREME LOCKDOWN!

It’s called Lockdown Mode, and Apple says that it’s so powerful most people will probably never need to use it.

“Lockdown Mode is optional and should be used only if you believe you might be targeted by a highly sophisticated cyberattack,” Apple says.

“Such as by a private company developing state-sponsored mercenary spyware.

“Most people are never targeted by attacks of this nature.”

It’ll block most message attachment types, as well as links and previews sent via text.

Some websites won’t load properly, and FaceTime calls will be blocked unless you’ve called that person before.

Location info will be scrubbed from photos you share, and so much more.

To turn it on, just go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Lockdown Mode, and then follow the prompts. Your iPhone will need to restart afterwards.

Keep in mind that your iPhone won’t work as well as it normally does with Lockdown Mode – so only activate it if you reckon a country has sponsored a cyberattack against you.

Thankfully for most Sun readers, that’s not very likely. Unless you’re a spy.

CLUE #6 – POPPING UP

Pop-ups are an age-old sign of devices being compromised.

Even back in the day on early Windows PCs, relentless pop-ups on your web browser were a dead giveaway that you’d downloaded something dodgy. Whoops.

Well it’s much the same story for phones.

Often these pop-ups will take two forms.

One will be just an attempt to spam you with ads to make money for criminals. This can slow your phone right down. But it’s also ruddy annoying.

Another type tries to get you to interact.

That might be with a warning or a tempting deal – anything to get you to tap the pop-up.

WHAT TO DO

You can scroll all the way to the right on your iPhone’s Home Screen to find your App Library, which shows every app that you’ve got installed[/caption]

If you’re on a dodgy website, the pop-up might just be linked to that specific page.

But if you’re seeing the pop-ups everywhere – even on regular websites – then your device may have been compromised.

Delete any downloads that you’ve made recently to see if the problem goes away.

If it doesn’t, you might need to restore your phone from a back-up.

CLUE #7 – STRANGE CHARGES

Seeing alerts about big bills linked to your phone?

There are some easy ways to check if you’re actually being charged.

For instance, both iPhone and Android have subscription pages in their app stores where you can see what you’ve signed up for.

Similarly, Apple users can head to reportaproblem.apple.com to see a list of recent purchases.

Go to Settings > [Name] > Subscriptions to find out what you’re actually paying for on an iPhone[/caption]

So if you’re getting emails and texts about an app bill that doesn’t show up on your account history, someone is trying to trick you.

Ignore those emails – they’re likely scams.

WHAT TO DO

Probably the more serious situation is if you’re seeing actual charges on your account history that you didn’t make.

It could mean that your account has been compromised, your credit card details have been nicked, or your device has been taken over.

You’ll want to change your passwords and contact your bank – don’t delay or you risk losing more money.
