As summer approaches, many Brits will be hoping to dust off their grills to make the most of the warmer weekends.

But many will no doubt have plenty of barbecue disasters to laugh about later too.

Britain’s ever temperamental summer weather can see plans quickly turned on their heads.

Not only this, but some 60 percent of Brits have admitted to burning food on their grill, according to an Atomik Research survey.

What’s more, seven in 10 respondents said they would go on to eat the food, even if it was burnt.

Iceland is now offering grill enthusiasts a chance to cash in on their barbecue fail stories.

The supermarket chain has launched a BBQ SOS (Save Our Summer) Service to help Brits fully enjoy their summer grills.

It is offering a free barbecue food bundle to people who share their stories over the next few months.

Starting from June 7 and ending on August 17, Brits can enter the prize draw by simply outlining how their past barbecues have gone wrong.

All you need to do is tell Iceland your barbecue woes in up to 100 words.

One lucky winner will be selected weekly throughout the competition period.

The lucky few selected will get a stack of barbecue grill food worth £23.50 in total.

Paul Dhaliwal, chief commercial officer at Iceland Foods, said: “We know how unpredictable the British summer can be, one minute it’s cloudy, the next it’s perfect BBQ weather.

“People want to seize the moment and get grilling without all the hassle.

New ‘poo pills’ could flush out killer bugs that kill one million Brits each year

SUPERBUGS, or drug-resistant infections, are projected to cause more than 39 million deaths between now and 2050.

This means that, on average, over three people are expected to die from antibiotic-resistant infections every minute.

Scientists focused on the gut to kill superbug infections[/caption]

But now UK doctor are attempting to clear the number of dangerous superbug infections by using pills containing freeze-dried faeces.

The “poo pills” contain stool samples from health donors, packed with good bacteria.

And the idea comes from previous data that suggests superbugs can be flushed out of the bowel and replaced with a mix of healthy gut bacteria.

Dr Blair Merrick, who has been testing the pills at St Guys and Thomas’ hospitals, said the focus is on the bowels which are “the biggest reservoir of antibiotic resistance in humans”.

The bowel is considered a significant reservoir for these resistant bacteria, and from there they can cause trouble in places such as the urinary tract or bloodstream.

Dr Merrick added: “So there’s a lot in ‘can you get rid of them from the gut?”

Currently, people with recurrent illness caused by hard-to-treat bacterium Clostridium difficile can be offered faecal transplants.

Scientists noticed they also had the potential to get rid of superbugs.

In a new study, published in the Journal of Infection, researchers focused on 41 patients who had an infection caused by drug-resistant bacteria in the past six months.

They were given pills made from faeces which people had donated to a stool bank.

Each stool sample was tested to ensure it didn’t contain and harmful bugs.

Undigested food was removed, and then it was freeze dried into a powder.

The powder, contained inside a pill, can then pass through the stomach unharmed and reach the intestines, where it then dissolves.

Twenty of the participants were given three sets of capsules on three consecutive days, while the rest received placebo pills.

For those who took the capsules , the donor bacteria was detectable in their gut flora a month later.

Dr Merrick told the BBC: “It’s very exciting. There’s a real shift from 20 years ago, where all bacteria and viruses were assumed to do you harm; to now where we realise they are completely necessary to our overall health.”

To help avoid getting superbugs, the NHS recommends practising good hygiene – wash your hands frequently with soap and water, especially before eating, after using the toilet, and after coughing or sneezing.

Use antibiotics responsibly –  avoid taking antibiotics for viral infections like colds or the flu, as they won’t work.

Even if you feel better, finish all of your prescribed medication to ensure the infection is fully treated.

And don’t share antibiotics – sharing can be harmful and can lead to resistance.

Also, take preventative measures when travelling – choose food from reliable sources, and ensure food is properly cooked and handled, avoid drinking water that may be contaminated, and make sure you are up-to-date on all recommended vaccinations before travelling.

How superbugs develop and spread

A SUPERBUG is a microorganism, often a bacterium, that has become resistant to multiple antibiotics.

This resistance develops because the bacteria can adapt and evolve, making it difficult or impossible to treat with standard antibiotics.

People can get superbugs in several ways…

Antibiotic resistance

Overuse and misuse of antibiotics lead to bacteria adapting and developing resistance to the drugs.

Spread through contact

Superbugs can spread from person to person, especially in healthcare settings where there is close contact with infected individuals or contaminated surfaces.

Travel

People can become colonised with superbugs while travelling and then spread them when they return home.

Animal agriculture

Antibiotic misuse in animal agriculture contributes to the emergence of superbugs.

Nursery teacher turned OnlyFans star to SUE student’s dad who leaked x-rated pics to football mates and got her sacked

A CATHOLIC nursery school teacher turned OnlyFans star is set to sue the dad of a pupil who got her sacked after leaking her X-rated snaps.

Elena Maraga, 29, became the centre of a scandal after her erotic online account filled with adult content was leaked to a football team’s group chat.

Her X-rated pictures spread like wildfire before the dad’s wife reported the miss to the school authorities[/caption]

She was suspended without pay from her job at a nursery in north Italy after refusing to delete the account before being sacked.

Although she fought fiercely to stay, church leaders said her adult content had exposed the school to “reputational risks”.

Now Elena is suing the dad she says found her OnlyFans profile and leaked the subscriber-only pictures to a football fans’ group chat.

The racey snaps spread like wildfire before the dad’s wife reported the miss to the school authorities.

Elena said: “There are parents who accused me, but they are the same ones who paid to see me. It’s embarrassing.

“They made me look like a harlot, but who is the immoral one?

“I want to give voice to all those women who, like me, have felt condemned or punished for doing things that men also do without facing any consequences.

“Me, who can do what I want with my body in my spare time, or them, who pay to watch and then condemn?

“I’m tired of the injustices I’ve suffered.”

Elena also filed complaints against three social media users for allegedly defamatory comments posted after the revelation broke.

The miss turned OnlyFans star is also facing a second legal battle in an appeal for financial compensation against school officials who she says dismissed her without reason.

She said: “Despite everything, I miss the children – but not the problems related to that job that I loved.

“But today I would not go back.”

School authorities said her contract would be terminated “for just cause with immediate effect.

It claimed that her OnlyFans account “contrasts with the Catholic inspiration that guides the educational direction of the school“.

The controversy was unearthed after the father of one of her pupils allegedly bought photos from her OnlyFans.

Maraga claims that the man’s wife found out after he distributed the pictures to a football group.

But the 29-year-old has blasted the way her former employer handled the matter.

She said: “They attacked me, saying I was seeking media attention.

“Taking compromising photos has never compromised my professionalism at work.

“The school has never wanted to talk to me, they have always acted with letters and have never wanted dialogue.

“I am surprised that a Catholic school that preaches morality treats an employee in this way.”

The Italian education ministry has signalled its intent to draw up a new code of ethics to prevent teachers appearing on adult sites, The Telegraph has reported.

Maraga told Italian media she has a degree in Educational Sciences and that she had been working in a Catholic nursery for five years.

She told Il Messaggero: “I love being a nursery school teacher, it was my vocation since I was a child.”

She added that she opened the account one month ago “partly for fun, partly out of curiosity, partly to see if you could really earn money“.

She said: “In one day I get a month’s salary.”

The Range selling dupe of posh £559 pizza oven perfect for garden dinners & it’s cheaper than Lidl’s version

As the summer months arrive, many Brits will want to enjoy a barbecue or drink outdoors to wile away the warmer weekends.

But with home pizza ovens becoming increasingly popular, shops are looking to stock their own versions at increasingly competitive prices.

Brands like Ooni are well known for selling solid pizza ovens – but their products can cost into several hundreds of pounds.

What The Range is selling offers consumers a budget option to enjoy home baked pizza this summer.

The VonHaus ovens available at The Range are selling for just £49.99.

This makes them a fair bit cheaper than the equivalent pizza oven at Lidl, which is listed at £79.99.

The Range’s website says: “Give your gas or charcoal BBQ a new lease of life with the VonHaus barbecue pizza oven, the easy way to enjoy artisan style pizzas.”

To make things even easier, the ovens come fully assembled – so pizza lovers can get cooking in no time.

It also has two handles and a temperature gauge.

But unlike other self-standing pizza ovens, this product is designed to be placed on your barbecue.

It works with either charcoal or gas barbecues.

“Perfect for weeknight family meals and garden parties alike, the insulated stainless steel construction heats up quickly and evenly every time, so you can feed hungry mouths in no time,” the website adds.

“Get your guests creating their own for a fun dining experience that means less time prepping and more time mingling!

“Plus, the ceramic pizza stone is super easy to wipe down once done. That’s hosting made easy.”

These ovens are a budget equivalent of the classic Ooni pizza ovens, which remain a popular favourite.

How to save money on pizza

TAKEAWAY pizzas taste great but they can hit you hard on your wallet. Here are some tips on how to save on pizza:

Cashback websites – TopCashback and Quidco will pay you to order your pizza through them. They’re paid by retailers for every click that comes to their website from the cashback site, which eventually trickles down to you. So you’ll get cashback on orders placed through them.

Discount codes – Check sites like VoucherCodes for any discount codes you can use to get money off your order.

Make you own topping – One savvy customer noticed that Domino’s charges up to 70p MORE for pizzas on its menu compared to ordering the same one through the “create your own” option. It’s worth trying out to see if it makes a difference before you place your next order.

Buy it from the shops – It might not taste exactly the same but you’ll save the most money by picking up your favourite pizza from your local supermarket. Some Asda stores sell freshly made ones from the pizza counter where prices start at £2.

Ooni pizza ovens start from around £300 and can support various different fuels.

The company describes its core purpose as being “because everyone deserves great pizza”.

“It’s a simple idea, but a noble cause that’s behind everything we do at Ooni.

“We’re working our wee socks off and won’t rest until there’s an Ooni pizza oven in the backyard of every man, woman and backyard-owning child everywhere.”

Laura revealed she is expecting her first child in a sweet Instagram post in April.

Now, the mum-to-be has shared more exciting news with her fans.

Laura has reveled that her and husband Matt are having a baby boy.

They shared a cute picture of themselves holding up a blue baby outfit.

In a lengthy post next to the sweet snap, Laura revealed that the couple had bought the outfit when they started trying for a baby nine years ago.

Continuing the post, The Great British Bake Off star said: “Well, earlier this year, as many of you know, our prayers were finally answered.

And recently we found out we’re having a little boy.

“I’ll be honest: part of me had hoped for a girl.

“But looking back, we never bought a girl’s outfit – just this one.

“So maybe that’s the universe’s way of saying this was always meant to be.

“Now, this little outfit isn’t just a symbol of hope. It’s waiting, just like we are, for the little boy who was always meant to fill it.”

BABY NEWS

In April, Laura and Matt revealed they were expecting a ‘miracle’ baby after nine years of infertility and being told to lose 14st.

The star admitted she had “quietly decided to give IVF a try” over the last year.

She shared a photo of her smiling alongside Matt while holding a baby scan in her hand.

Laura wrote: “After 9 years of infertility, we are very excited (and still a bit in shock) to be expecting our little IVF miracle in October.

“I know announcements like this can be really painful, especially if you’re in the thick of waiting or grieving, so please feel free to mute or unfollow if you need to and know I’m sending so much love your way.

“It’s been such a really long, and to be honest lonely road to get here – something many of you will know if you’ve followed me for a while or listened to the podcast.

“We’d honestly made peace with the idea that having children might not happen for us. But about a year and a half ago, we quietly decided to give IVF a try.

“We kept it to ourselves and decided not to share online (or even with family) just so we didn’t put more pressure on ourselves.

“We had an unsuccessful round and a cancelled round, and then found out a couple of months ago that I was finally pregnant.

“I’ll be sharing a bit more over the coming weeks about our journey to get here but for now we’re just really excited to share our news with you all. We honestly can’t believe our luck.”

Back in 2022, Laura shared her dream about becoming a mum and starting a family.

Two years before, Laura appeared The Great British Bake Off and made it all the way to the final, but lost out to the series’ youngest-ever winner Peter Sawkins.

The baking queen opened up about her struggles to conceive.

Laura previously told The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine: “Unless you’ve gone through infertility and that heartache of really wanting it and it not happening . . . it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through.”
