THE future of ITV drama Trigger Point has been revealed ahead of series three’s launch this autumn.
Trigger Point stars Vicky McClure as lead character Lana Washington, a bomb disposal operative.
ITV have now recommissioned the high-stakes show for a fourth series.
Earlier this year, Vicky was spotted on set while filming series three.
Polly Hill, ITV‘s Director of Drama, shared her excitement about the show being confirmed to return.
She said: “Trigger Point is one of ITV‘s most-watched dramas of last year after Mr Bates vs The Post Office so I’m delighted that this thrilling series is returning for a fourth series.”
Polly added: “I know audiences will be once again on the edge of their seat as Lana and the team take us on another thrilling ride to keep the capital safe.”
While star Vicky commented: “We’re all buzzing ITV have such faith in this series to commission a fourth before the third has even aired.”
She continued: “I love working with the team, we have a great time making the show and I cannot wait to continue Lana’s journey on Trigger Point.”
The premise follows a bomb squad in London and the difficult situations they handle on a daily basis.
Vicky’s character, Lana, leads a Metropolitan Police bomb squad – but has a background as an Afghan War veteran.
In particular, the show’s second series was a huge hit with viewers and gained 8.1 million viewers when it aired.
It became the second most watched drama for ITV, with Mr Bates vs The Post Office taking the spot of number one.
The Sun revealed last October that Trigger Point would be receiving a third series.
A source revealed: “Someone is targeting individuals, and demanding revenge.
“Working alongside the police counterterrorism unit, the bomb disposal squad race against time to find the bomber before they claim their next victim.”
Eric Shango, Nabil Elouahabi, Natalie Simpson and Maanuv Thiara were also revealed to be returning.
Earlier this year, Channel 5 commissioned a real-life “Trigger Point” show following Britain’s bomb disposal squads.
Trigger Point airs on ITV1 and STV – and is available to stream on ITVX.

A HUGE clean-up operation has been launched in the aftermath of the popular Appleby Horse Fair.
Tents, burnt-out caravans and sofas were left behind by thousands of travellers who attended the six-day event in Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria.
Ariel shots of the campsite showed muddy trails across the fields, which were lined with mounds of rubbish.
Stacks of discarded food and drinks could also be seen scattered around the area in the historic market town.
Grazing horses were pictured surrounded by toppled port-a-loos and cardboard boxes following the travelling community’s departure.
Police tape and fences surrounded one burnt-out caravan on the campsite.
It comes after a fire broke out at the 340-year-old event on Saturday afternoon.
Shocking footage on social media showed smoke billowing into the sky as fire crews tackled the blaze.
Clouds of black smoke also rose high above the fair as attendees watched on in horror.
Many were even forced to cover their faces with jumpers and coats to avoid inhaling the toxic smoke.
Stall holders then continued to dismantle their tents and tables next to the fire as it was slowly brought under control.
During this time, police officers also formed a barricade in order to protect groups of people from getting close to the fire.
It is estimated that 10,000 gypsies and travellers, as well as 30,000 other visitors, attend the fair each year.
The 340-year-old fair typically features traditional music, dancing, horse riding, market stalls and horse sales.
Horsemen and women have been seen riding their horses in the nearby River Eden as part of a long-held tradition.
Market stalls are also propped up across the tiny town – home to around just 3,200 people – selling a variety of traditional traveller goods and horse-related products.
