‘I hope you’re smiling’ – Jacqui Hurley pays touching tribute to Cork GAA boss’ late brother after Munster hurling final

JACQUI HURLEY paid tribute to Pat Ryan’s late brother after Cork beat Limerick in the Munster hurling final.

The Rebels ended a seven-year wait for provincial glory with a penalty shoot-out win over the seven in-a-row chasing Treaty.

It came just four months on from the sad death of Cork manager Pat Ryan’s brother Ray aged 43.

Ray tragically passed away back in February, having been part of Sarsfields teams that won county titles in 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014.

After the Rebels’ momentous victory at the TUS Gaelic Grounds, RTE broadcaster Jacqui Hurley made sure to pay tribute to him on Instagram.

She said: “Ray, I hope you are smiling down on these scenes.”

Pat Ryan is an immensely popular figure among the Leesiders, who have now done a league and provincial championship double.

This was on display when Robert Downey sent a message of love to his gaffer after Saturday’s game.

Skipper Downey said: “I don’t think he realises how much we love him.

“But on days like these, I’m going to tell him. Pat, we love you to bits.”

Three weeks after they suffered a 16-point hammering at the hands of the same opposition, Cork scuppered Limerick’s seven-in-a-row quest following an engrossing affair at the Gaelic Grounds.

Ryan said: “We were just focused on coming up here and really going to battle with Limerick and representing the jersey, representing our people.

“The people are spending money to come up here and we didn’t give them any value for money the last day.

“I think both teams gave fierce value for money to their supporters today and to everyone.

“We have no doubt in the character of our fellas. We have no doubt in the ability that they have.

“I think everybody has said that. You have to go and prove it every time.

“I’m here three years. We thought that performance three weeks ago was gone out of this team. As I said, I genuinely take a bit of blame for that.”

Ryan’s own frustration with ref Thomas Walsh — who went off injured in extra-time — seemed apparent as he approached the Waterford official at half-time.

But the Cork chief said: “We’re all fighting tooth and nail for the calls.

“The game is so fast. Thomas is a fantastic referee. We’re fighting for calls. John Kiely is fighting for calls. That’s just the nature of it.”

Asked why he approached Walsh, Ryan responded: “Just to say he was doing a great job.”

A GOOD bag has the power to elevate any ordinary outfit into something extra special.

So it comes as no surprise that fashion fans are racing to their nearest Next, in a bid to get their hands on one of the stunning new lemon handbags.

The store shared some of its favourite summer items in a picture slideshow on TikTok.

“Psssttt – wanna see some of our fave accessories for summer?” they wrote over the top of the first snap.

They then showed off the bag in question – a gorgeous beaded bright yellow number designed to look like a segment of lemon.

“They need no introduction,” they wrote over the picture.

The £55 beaded bag also comes in an equally cute watermelon design.

And it was clear the bag is going to be a sought after accessory this summer, judging by the hundreds of people commenting on the TikTok.

“Neeeed that lemon bag,” one wrote.

“We love the lemon and watermelon bags, Next!” another praised.

“Fruitylicious on the beach.”

“The lemon bag is going on the wishlist!” a third gushed.

“Obsessed, beaded heaven,” someone else said.

“Sold. God sakes!” another joked.

Other items included in the picture slideshow were a gorgeous shell necklace, which was paired with a green co-ord.

And there are a fair few bags to choose from in store at the moment too.

Like the “perfect summer beach bag” – a stunning cream option with tassels and intricate crochet detailing.

Cow print is also a big trend this summer, with a neck scarf coming in the pattern to “elevate any outfit”.

Hottest fashion trends of 2025

Fabulous’ Fashion Editor Clemmie Fieldsend shares the biggest trends from the high street.

The East/West Bag

Baguette bags have had a good run, after returning from the 1990s’ shoulders of Sarah Jessica Parker to modern-day fashion icons, like Hailey Bieber.

In 2025, the East/West bag is a similar but elongated shape and has long, thin straps that are easy to throw over your shoulder.

They’ve been on runway models’ arms at nearly ever designer show – think Burberry, Givenchy and Bottega Veneta – and are hitting the high street now, too.

Powder pink

Bright fuchsia pink had its day after the release of Barbie in 2023 and now the more polished and expensive-looking pale shade is taking over for 2025.

Pantone may say that it’s the year of Mocha Mousse, but the catwalks say otherwise! From Prada to Erdem, the subtle look was all over the spring/summer catwalks, worn head-to-toe or on its own.

If the sugary shade is too girly for you, then look to sharp suiting for a androgynous take on the colour.

The shell jacket

The ’80s classic is back, but with a sleek and minimal new twist for 2025.

We all know we’re likely to see rain for most of spring, so your practical coat of choice should be a cagoule jacket.

Depop revealed one of its big trend predictions for this year is retro sportswear, with surges already seen in ‘80s windbreakers’.

Seen everywhere from the stylish streets of Copenhagen to the Miu Miu catwalk, now mums who have an emergency raincoat crumpled underneath their pushchair are very much in fashion!

The turn-up jeans

While the shape of jeans remains the same for this year and barrel-legs will still be everywhere, the way we’re styling them is different.

This season, transform your wide-leg, baggy denims into turn-ups.

For this look, size doesn’t matter, so while deep turn-ups are a hit from jean trend-leaders Citizens of Humanity, a slight fold is still just as good – but only as it’s just one single fold.

Peep-toe shoe

Get your pedicures booked in sharpish, as this season your toes are the main event.

After a long hiatus, the peep-toe has been welcomed back into the fashion fold, with brands like Hermes, Miu Miu and Tory Burch showing plain and embellished footwear in this style.

From mules to pumps and clogs (yes, clogs will be around too!), there are lots of different styles that are set to sweep the high street.

Sheer blouses

See-through looks have always lived on the catwalk, but have rarely filtered into everyday life – until now.

Designers Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford loved sheer looks on their S/S ’25 catwalks and M&S even had sellout success with its black sheer pencil skirt last season.

Expect to see more sheer looks lining supermarket aisles and high street shops in the form of skirts, tops and frocks.

And there are even lace-up cow print loafers – sure to divide style fans.

Fruit continues to be a big theme, with a red bag featuring miniature strawberries on it.

The comments section was once again filled with people praising Next for the epic offerings, with one insisting: “Omg need it all!”

“Next have excelled this summer,” another added.

“I fear Next is eating the other high street shops up atm???????” a third mused.

“Erm ok slay!!!!!!!!” someone else commented.

“Your summer pieces are insane!” another mused.

While someone else said they “can’t afford this”.

“Next is doing so good this season!” someone else concluded.
