Shona was enraptured by Matt’s words to her during the reunion show

Matt had prepared a very heartfelt speech for Shona along with a surprise

Those braving the country retreat included Adam Nightingale, Amy Kenyon, Ella Morgan, Erica Roberts, Kieran Chapman and Kristina Goodsell.

Amongst them were Shona Manderson and Matt Pilmoor who have been going strong for over a year since their series of the E4 show.

Shona, 31, left the show because of her unhealthy relationship with Brad Skelly – whose behaviour was deemed controlling and manipulative by charity Women’s Aid.

But she found love afterwards with another star on the show – window cleaner Matt, 29 – who originally ‘married’ Adrienne Naylor.

In tonight’s reunion, Shona revealed the secret to her happy relationship with Matt was that the couple have never raised their voice at each other.

Later, at the end of the show, Shona took a question from the show’s box of tricks and asked Matt: “What do you love most about me?”

Matt replied: “Actually, I’ve prepared something.”

“Shona, one year and four months ago, we met.

“In fact where we met, is where we are sitting right now.

“You came at the most unexpected point in my life.

“You have been the most incredible gorgeous girl by my side, every step of the way.

“You have helped me through the hardest time of my life.”

As Matt got emotional, Shona leaned on him and gave him a hug as some of the other stars supported him with words of encouragement to carry on.

He continued: “With your special way to listen and speak and give advice.

“I can’t thank you enough. Shona, I want to show you how committed I am with this ring.”

Kristina’s mouth dropped open and there were cries of ‘Oh My God’ around the table as everyone got excited for what appeared to be a marriage proposal.

Matt added: “And to promise you the most amazing future.

“We never had a wedding during the experiment.

“So please take this as a vow that one day in the near future, you will be my wife and the most gorgeous mother of my children.

“You genuinely are my world and I cannot wait for our next chapter.”

Shona leaned in and the couple kissed while the table cheered and applauded the pair.

Matt then opened the ring box and said: “It’s a promise ring.”

Shona looked overjoyed as she showed off her new sparkling diamond ring.

Later she said: “I just feel like I am on cloud 9, I feel like I am floating.”

Fans however weren’t as thrilled and quickly voiced their thoughts on social media.

“F**g promise ring what are they 12” declared one fan.

“Ah so that’s why they’re there! A f****g promise ring… are these people 15?!” stated another.

A third said: ” A f****g “promise ring”?? Grow up you f****g Neanderthal.

“A promise ring is just a way to get your girlfriend to stop asking when you’re going to propose, without having to actually propose.”

“All that for a promise ring” added another.

Taking to Instagram after the reunion show had aired, Shona told fans: ” I said yes!! I’m semi engaged to @mattpilmoor 💕💕💕 hehe love my promise ring such a cute way to end our journey on MAFS.

“Matty’s speech was sooo cute & emotional but obviously you couldn’t see it all so I’ve left it here for you guys. Never stop believing in love. Love you all xxxx”

MAFS The Reunions is available to stream on Channel 4.

But, talking to the Radio Times, creator Heidi Thomas also hinted that any resting of the show might lead to some form of spin off.

She said: “Those of us who are most invested with the show, cast and producers alike, who have been there since the beginning, it is our lives.

“I don’t believe Call the Midwife will ever end. But I do think we might take a break at some point.”

She continued: “I’m not in a position to talk about things really.

“There is a sort of a rolling, ongoing conversation that we always have at this point every year, which is: is there an end point?

“What are we working towards?

“Increasingly, we do see opportunities to expand our storytelling world.

“So if we do take a break, it will be with a view to looking at other aspects of Call the Midwife.”

Asked if that might mean there was some kind of spin-off series from the show she simply replied: “Watch this space.”

Meanwhile cast member Megan Cusack also confirmed that she was leaving the programme, in a move that will shock devotees of Call the Midwife.

The actress, who plays Nancy Corrigan on the Sunday night drama, said: “Sometimes, you’ve got to step out of your comfort zone to grow.

“I’ve learnt so much, but I’m at the start of my career and I need to take a leap of faith.

“It’s bittersweet, really.

“I’ve made lifelong friendships there and I get to take those with me.”

HARLINGTON (5.30 Wolverhampton, nap)

Saves his best for the course and distance with a win and two places from his past three visits. This looks a drop in class from last time out when he was beaten less than a length in a blanket finish. The handicapper has been fair in leaving his mark alone and solid young jockey Taylor Fisher takes a handy 3lb off which can make all the difference today.

ASA (5.00 Catterick, nb)

Won by a distance at Southwell eight days ago and looks hard to stop under a 7lb penalty. She relishes every yard of this three-mile trip and has been thriving over fences and hurdles. This track suits and there’s even more to come from Philip Kirby’s flying mare.

CHARLATAN (7.30 Wolverhampton, treble)

Was a bit unlucky not to strike here seven days ago. He blasted home with a real rattle but the line but the finishing line came a few strides too soon. He has lots of good form over this course and distance and the handicapper has given him a chance off the same mark.

MY BROTHER MIKE (4.55 Wolverhampton, Lucky 15)

He has dropped to his last winning mark, which came here in November. He was just a length off the pace last time and this slightly longer trip is ideal under Rossa Ryan.
