Coronation Street’s Julie Carp’s heartbreaking secret revealed as she makes bombshell return after 10 years

CORONATION Street’s Julie Carp’s devastating secret has been revealed – and it’s utterly heartbreaking.

The beloved icon – who is played by actress Katy Cavanagh in the ITV soap – made a shock return to the cobbles after 10 years last week.

Todd is devastated by the upcoming loss of his beloved aunt[/caption]

Fans were confused when Julie seemed desperate to leave Weatherfield before coming face to face with her sister Eileen Grimshaw.

But in today’s episode it was revealed that she has good reason – and it’s heartbreaking.

Having run into nephew Todd at the hotel and accidentally left her luggage behind for Todd to take home, Julie snuck into Eileen’s house to retrieve it.

Catching her and wondering why she was being so cagey, Todd opened her bag and pulled out a bag of pills.

“I’m sorry, I had no idea,” said George as he picked up Julie’s medical pack.

Todd, took and looked before saying: “Cancer?”

As Eileeen began to come in Julie begged them to keep quiet about what they’d discovered.

Instead she plastered on a smile and went to lunch with her sister, trying to cover up that she’d been in Weatherfield for a few days already.

After a few run-ins, Julie got through it and made her excuses to leave – insisting she had to leave for work.

Todd took her back to her hotel and they sat down to talk and she told him the truth of what happened.

“Sarcoma,” she told him.

“That’s what the cancer’s called. It started in the soft tissue around my stomach.”

And sadly she told Todd it was terminal.

“It’s stage four, it’s spread to my liver and lungs,” she said. “The chemo can slow it down but it can’t cure it.”

A tearful Todd said: “Oh Julie. Have they said how long you’ve got?”

“If I’m lucky I’ll see this summer,” she said.

“Now you know why I didn’t want to stay. Last thing you need is me killing the vibes.

“There’s no point crying about it. I’ve just got to make the most of the time I’ve got left.

“I’m seeing some specialists in alternative palliative care, that’s why I’m here. It might buy me a few months but that’s it.”

Todd begged her to tell his mum but Julie insisted on keeping it a secret.

Darkest soap storylines

Over the years the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock…

  • EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police.
  • Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose.
  • Hollyoaks: Luke’s rape (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap’s first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs – who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance.
  • Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – Just a mere mention of ‘Richard Hillman’ is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it’s not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn’t.
  • She told him: “I’ve been perfectly fine by myself up until now. I don’t mean to burden her.

“I want her to remember me how I was, not how I’ll become. Can you give me that?”

‘Lovely & really comfy’ shoppers rave as Dunelm brings back its cult favourite egg chair for summer 2025

THE SPRING is just around the corner and with the weather slowly warming up there’s never been a better time to kick back and relax outside whilst the sun is shining.

Bargain hunters are in luck as the mega retailer, Dunelm, has brought back its cult favourite egg chair for summer 2025.

The Santorini Egg Chair sells for £249 and shoppers can choose between four gorgeous colour options
    Dunelm

Dunelm is known for its stylish furniture options and its Santorini Egg Chair is just one of the many picks that’s become a major hit amongst shoppers.

The cocoon-shaped garden piece, which is made with comfort and durability in mind, is currently selling for £249 and customers can snap it up in four different colours.

The store is offering the egg chair in Jade Mist (light green), Ginger, Ashley Blue (baby blue), as well as Multicoloured – the ideal choice for those who want a pop of colour in their garden.

Showcasing vibrant, contrasting colours and a unique rattan weave, this hanging egg chair features a sturdy, powder-coated steel frame and weather-resistant design.

The one-seater, which boasts an impressive four-star rating online, is crafted with a spacious seat, unique design and supportive, thick cushions.

It’s also water resistant – perfect for those rainy British summers – and moves with a gentle swinging motion.

The popular garden piece can be pretty expensive, so knowing where the cheapest place to buy them is vital if you’re serious about saving money this year.

Various different retailers sell their own versions of the hanging chair, with prices ranging up to over £500 at some stores.

If you’re in the market for the viral chair, then it’s important to make sure you have enough space first – and this epic buy measures at W 118cm x D 121cm x H 188cm.

Dunelm’s Santorini hanging egg chair is a firm shopper favourite and has been described as ”lovely and really comfy”.

One customer said: ”Lovely chair, it’s comfy with a nice bounce to it – the cushion is just right and really helpful to have arms to it.

”There were some chips in the paint on the stand, which is very heavy (as you’d hope).

”It’s quite tricky to put the actual egg part together, it looks like there is more wiggle room between bolts joining the two halves than there is. Just waiting for warmer weather to put it outside.

How to compare prices to get the best deal

JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn't mean it's always a good deal.

There are plenty of comparison websites out there that’ll check prices for you – so don’t be left paying more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers.

Here are some that we recommend:

    • Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.
    • Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.
    • Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one.
    • CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of.

”Hardest part was choosing a colour – I went for ginger but it’s more of a pinky peachy orange than I was expecting (hard to capture in photo!)

”I only wish the multicoloured option had been there when I ordered!” the Dunelm fan added.

Whatever you’re buying, it’s always a good idea to shop around to find the best deal.

Heartbreak as tot dies days after graduating as Little Blue Hero & gardai pay emotional ‘our little colleague’ tribute

TRIBUTES have poured in for a toddler who died just days after he graduated as an Honorary Garda.

Just last week the beloved child had graduated as an Honorary Garda through the Little Blue Heros Foundation, which is run by volunteer Gardai and retired Gardai.

The foundation works with seriously ill children and supports their families and the children they help will graduate as Honorary Gardai.

There was great excitement in the local area last week as little Danny earned his title and was presented with his certificate by Sergeant Gráinne McLoone and Sergeant Charlene Anderson.

In a heartbreaking tribute today, An Garda Siochana Donegal told how the youngster is now “in the arms of the angels”.

Officers said: “Our hearts are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Honorary Garda Danny Mc Laughlin (HG 622) from Trentagh.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents, Michael and Annie, his twin brother Charlie and with his extended family and friends.

“Our little colleague, our little friend and one of our biggest heroes forever. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

The little boy is survived by his “heartbroken parents” Michael and Annie, by whom he was “loved so much” and will be missed by his twin brother Charlie and grandparents Marcus, Teresa, Sabrina and Livinius.

A notice online told how he will also be missed by his uncle Marcus, aunts Orla & Megan and extended family members, neighbours & friends.

Danny passed “peacefully” at his late residence surrounded by his family.

The tot is reposing at his home today but the family have requested the house to remain strictly private.

Danny’s funeral mass will take place tomorrow, February 25, at St Colmcille’s Church in Glendowan.

Interment will follow in Gartan cemetery and family flowers only have been requested.

    ‘BEAUTIFUL WEE DANNY’

Baby Danny is being remembered as a “beautiful” and “brave” boy.

One heartbreaking tribute reads: “Rest in peace beautiful wee Danny, I was privileged to meet and get to know this wee angel and will remember him forever and the beautiful loving care that he was surrounded in every second of his short and precious life.”

And a touching message from Letterkenny fire station read: “Sympathies to the family of the very brave Danny.

“Whilst Danny was a little blue hero, to us in the Fire Service, he was our little red hero. From all in Letterkenny Fire Station.”

Another tribute added: “My condolences to the McLaughlin family on the passing of H/Garda Danny.”
