Donald Trump meets old pal Macron after French president vowed to show Europe & UK ‘united’ in support for Ukraine

DONALD Trump has met with his old pal French President Macron after he vowed to show Europe and the UK are “united” in support for Ukraine.

The Republican welcomed Macron to the White House for talks on Monday as uncertainty looms about the future of transatlantic relations.

The pair had started the day participating in a virtual meeting with other leaders of the Group of Seven economies – holding crunch talks about the war.

The US President took to his social media platform Truth Social to share how the talks went.

He said in the post: “Today, President Emmanuel Macron of France joined me in the Oval Office to speak to the G7 Summit. The meeting was convened by Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada, the current chair of G7, to acknowledge the Third Anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine War – Which would have never started if I was President.

“Everyone expressed their goal of seeing the War end, and I emphasized the importance of the vital “Critical Minerals and Rare-Earths Deal” between the United States and Ukraine, which we hope will be signed very soon!

“This deal, which is an “Economic Partnership,” will ensure the American people recoup the Tens of Billions of Dollars and Military Equipment sent to Ukraine, while also helping Ukraine’s economy grow as this Brutal and Savage War comes to an end.

“At the same time, I am in serious discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia concerning the ending of the War, and also major Economic Development transactions which will take place between the United States and Russia. Talks are proceeding very well!”

It comes after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Macron agreed to both discuss showing “united leadership in support of Ukraine.”

Both Starmer and Macron went over Russia’s “barbaric full-scale invasion” and there were reportedly talks of placing Ukraine in the centre of negotiations.

Starmer shared his commitment to support Ukraine and it was said the UK and Europe must be united against “Russian aggression.”

A press release posted on Gov.uk revealed more discussions in the US would take place within the coming week.

A Downing Street spokesperson said: “The Prime Minister spoke with President Macron this afternoon.

“They began by discussing the third anniversary of Russia’s barbaric full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which is a stark reminder that we must all work together to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position at this crucial moment for global security.

“The Prime Minister repeated the UK’s steadfast commitment to support Ukraine for as long as needed and reiterated the importance of Ukraine being at the centre of any negotiations to end the conflict.”

Europe and the UK were said to be looking to scale up to meet security needs, exhibiting further support for Ukraine.

The spokesperson continued: “The UK and Europe must continue stepping up to meet their security needs and show united leadership in support of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, which they would both discuss in the US in the coming week.

“The leaders agreed to stay in close contact.”

This comes as Volodymyr Zelensky vows to step down as Ukraine’s president in exchange for peace or Nato membership.

Donald Trump is holding peace talks without including Kyiv in discussions, and the Ukrainian leader has responded by offering to leave his position if necessary.

The shock remarks were made at a press conference this weekend as he emphasised that Ukraine’s security was his priority.

Zelensky said on Sunday: “If it’s about peace in Ukraine and you really want me to leave my position, I am ready to do that [in exchange for peace].

“Secondly I can exchange it for Nato [membership].

“If there is such an opportunity I’ll do it immediately without a long conversation about it.”

Hollyoaks star splits with girlfriend a year after going Instagram official

HOLLYOAKS star James Sutton has split up with his girlfriend Tamara Jane.

The former couple went public last February when James shared a photo of them both online along with the caption “Mine”, but a year on they’re no longer an item.

James, who has played John Paul McQueen for nearly two decades, no longer follows Tamara on Instagram and has removed all trace of her from his grid.

The Sun has contacted a representative for the actor for comment.

James, 42, and Tamara’s went Instagram official five months after the end of the actor’s marriage to wife of five years Rachael Collin was made public.

He released a statement in September 2023, which read: “Rachael and I had a wonderful relationship and marriage. It was very sad but amicable, and we remain friends.”

The exes met at Glastonbury when James spotted Rachael struggling with her foot pump. He chivalrously lent her his electric pump and things quickly escalated from there.

However, during the coronavirus pandemic their marriage became strained and never fully recovered.

Last month, James pledged his future to Hollyoaks amid a huge overhaul of stars.

He told The Tom’s Talks podcast: “I’m still on Hollyoaks, which is great. I’ve just signed another year.

“I’m going to be there until January 2026. Yeah. I’m there until January 2026.”

Jean Paul has been at the centre of a string of hard-hitting storylines, including a horrifying rape by student Finn O’Connor.

He temporarily left the soap in 2017 for a job in Singapore after his relationship with James Nightingale broke down, but returned five years later.

Jean Paul is currently supporting his sister Mercedes McQueen as she battles an aggressive form of bowel cancer.

It comes after fans were left furious that Martha Blake is set to become a serial killer.

Many viewers feel that the new plotline has been overdone and is being used as an excuse to axe characters.

The Sun exclusively revealed that Sherrie Hewson is going to make history by playing the oldest serial killer on the soap come September.

A source shared that the star, 73, is delighted to get the chance to be at the center of such a huge story.

They added: “She can’t wait to get her hands dirty with the blood of  characters.

Hollyoaks is at its best when there’s a major villain on the loose and Martha is going to top them all. She’s  just as twisted as her murderous great-granddaughter Nico.

“She may be worse. No one’s safe with Martha around.”

Hollyoaks - cast member cull

HOLLYOAKS beauty Chelsee Healey has dropped the biggest hint yet she's been axed from the soap - yet what's happening at the Channel 4 show?

Earlier this year, the Channel 4 soap was forced to address the cull of cast members.

It came after The Sun was first to report Hollyoaks bosses plan to kill off a whopping 20 cast members.

Now Chelsee, who recently took time away from her role as Goldie McQueen to give birth to her second daughter, has now made a cryptic move on X.

The Manchester lass, 36, re-posted a picture of her character crying to her page.

It came after Stephanie Waring, famed for her 28-year-long role as Cindy Cunningham, confirmed that soap bosses had axed her as part of the 20-person strong cast cull.

Another big name set to quit for good is popstar turned soap star Jamelia.

The soap’s resident hunk and TV favourite Owen Warner has also left the show amid the cuts with fans left devastated to say goodbye to his character Romeo Nightingale.

Jamie Lomas has also quit the show and will depart his Warren Fox role soon.

Haiesha Mistry famed for her role as Yasmine Maalik has also left after seven years.

Met Office map shows huge band of wet weather sweep across Britain bringing 1 month’s worth of rain in HOURS

A MET Office map has revealed how a huge band of wet weather will bring a month’s worth of rain in just hours.

It comes as more than 100 flood alerts are in place across the UK following a 15-hour amber weather warning.

The latest deluge will sweep in from the west and will particularly affect the North of England.

The north-west of Scotland will also be affected by the band of wet weather.

As the rain sweeps across the country, some areas will also see hailstorms and blistering winds.

However, the weather will subside by Tuesday morning despite unleashing a month’s worth of rain.

The rain will coincide with a drop in temperatures, which soared to highs of 16C.

London will be the warmest area of the UK mainland, enjoying temperatures of 9C.

Meanwhile, Northern Scotland will face a much colder 5C as temperatures return to their seasonal normal.

The year so far has seen the strongest storm in a decade, when Storm Eowyn struck

The storm brought gusts of wind which measured up to 114mph, smashing records.

Drivers battled floods once again on February 24, when four inches of rain fell in just a matter of hours.

The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for some areas of Wales and suggested that the conditions presented a “danger to life”.

13 flood warnings remained in place as of 1.30pm that same day, as the Environment Agency warned that just 30cm of water is enough to float your car.

Met Office meteorologist Kathryn Chalk said in a forecast on YouTube: “After an unsettled Sunday, most of us should see a good deal of sunny spells as we go through Monday but we still hold on to some heavy spells of rain so it is still a damp start so take care during rush hour there could be some spray on the road.

“The band of rain will clear its way eastwards and behind that we should see brighter skies developing.

“There will be a few showers bubbling up especially across the southern parts of England into London and East Anglia.

“Frequent showers across Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland where they could turn heavy, possibly with the odd rumble of thunder.”

Sarah Cook, flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, also said heavy and persistent rain had brought “a risk of significant inland flooding in parts of south and mid Wales”.

She added that localised flooding was also possible in south-west England and Cumbria on Monday morning.

Ms Cook said: “Impacts could include river flooding and surface water flooding from urban watercourses, drains and channels.

“Please plan journeys carefully and do not drive through flood water – it is often deeper than it looks and just 30cm of flowing water is enough to float your car.”
