Social welfare payment date switch up in 2 DAYS as An Post confirm ‘alternative pick up locations’ as some offices close
A MAJOR social welfare payment date switch up will impact thousands of recipients in just two days.
And An Post have confirmed that some payments may have to be picked up at an alternative location after vicious Storm Eowyn left some post offices out of action.
Payments will be made days earlier[/caption] Some post offices remain out of action[/caption]The date switch-up comes as the recently introduced February bank holidays sees post offices closed on Monday February 3, after St Brigid’s Day on Saturday.
Any social welfare payments that were due to be handed out on this date will instead be paid on either Friday, January 31 or Saturday, February 1.
Child Benefit payment which is usually paid on the first Tuesday of each month will also be paid out on these earlier dates.
The payment will always be made on an earlier date if the Tuesday it is due to be paid out falls after a bank holiday Monday.
This will happen again in May and June of this year following the bank holidays in those months.
The payment date change means many recipients could have their payments in just days, before January is even over.
However, as power outages continue around the country following the storm some people may have to collect their payments elsewhere.
An Post have confirmed that 20 post offices still remain closed today as the ESB continue restoration works.
And they confirmed all payments due for payment today or tomorrow are ready for payment and payments due to be paid last Friday, or yesterday, are waiting to be collected.
Dromindoor and Lisdoonvarna’s Post Offices in Clare both remain closed due to power outages.
However, payments can be collected from Ennis Post Office.
Ahascragh and Glenamaddy in Galway remain closed, with payments available from Ballinasloe Post Office.
Also in Galway Dunmore, Cummer, Clarinbridge and Claddaghduff remain shut with payments available from Galway Post Office on Eglinton Street.
As are Monivea, Miltown-Galway, Lettermore and Leenane.
Cong in Mayo is also closed with payments collectable from Galway Post Office.
WAITING FOR LOCATION
Broadhaven, Geesala and Knock are also shut with payments available at Ballina Post Office.
Mount Nugent in Cavan, Sneem in Kerry, Dowra in Leitrim, Lanesborough in Longford, Drummullin in Roscommon and Latton in Monaghan are all shut.
As are Shannonbridge and Williamstown in Offaly, Ballyfarnon, Knockcroghery and Strokestown also in Roscommon and Coole in Westmeath.
And in Sligo Ballycastle, Liscarney and Aclare are all closed.
In regards to these locations An Post said: ” We are working on identifying the alternative location for DSP payment collection.”
First look at Jodie Whittaker for new drama Toxic Town about one of the UK’s biggest environmental scandals
NETFLIX have shared a first-look at former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker’s brand new drama series, Toxic Town.
The new gritty programme is just weeks away too with the streaming giant confirming that the episodes will drop from Thursday 27 February.
Jodie Whittaker is starring in brand new drama Toxic Town[/caption] The drama chronicles a real-life event[/caption]Set to be a difficult watch, the programme will tell the story of a town’s fight for justice after 19 children were born with various deformities as a result of a botched steelworks clean up.
Known as the Corby Toxic Waste Case, it has largely been regarded as the UK’s biggest environment scandal.
The families affected made pleas to Corby Council and took them to the High Court in a bid for them to take accountability and face the issues head-on.
The show’s creator Jack Thorne, said of the programme: “The Corby Toxic Waste Case is one of those moments in history that is defining.
“It showed our ability to close our eyes and ears to the safety of our people. It also showed the remarkable way that people will fight for what’s right…
“Toxic Town tells the story of these funny, brave, incredible women and the way they scrapped for their children.
“It has been a true privilege working with Annabel, Minkie, Delyth and the whole Broke & Bones family on this incredible story, and we are so grateful to Netflix for giving us the opportunity and support in telling it.”
Jodie will play the role of Susan McIntyre in the show – one of the mums affected by the scandal.
She began filming scenes for the show in Cheshire last April.
Corby Borough Council finally admitted negligence in 2010 after a lengthy legal battle.
It dated back to the 15-year removal period of waste from the site of a former steelworks in the town.
The mothers all confessed that they had come into contact with dirt from the clean-up process whilst pregnant.

Female hospital worker, 51, is charged with plot to kidnap, rape and murder a girl aged under 13
A FEMALE hospital theatre worker has been charged with a plot to kidnap, rape and murder a child.
Operating theatre assistant Tracy Turner, 51, has been suspended from her post at Wales’ largest hospital after being accused of planning the deadly kidnap plot.
A woman has been charged with plotting to kidnap, rape and murder a young girl[/caption]She and Stuart Compton, 45, are accused of conspiring to plan and attack a girl aged under 13.
They have been charged with conspiring to rape a girl aged under 13, to sexually assault her by penetration, to sexually assault her by touching, to kidnap her, and to murder her as well as two counts of making indecent images of a child and one of perverting the course of justice.
It is alleged that Turner, who worked at Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales, hid a mobile phone on June 25 last year “following the arrest of her partner.”
She is also alleged to have made indecent images in Categories B and C – the second and third most serious types of illegal images of children.
Turner has been suspended from her role at the third largest university hospital in the UK while the case is ongoing.
Turner, of Ninian Road in Roath, Cardiff, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Compton, in Cathays, Cardiff, has also pleaded not guilty to the same charges.
They both appeared at Cardiff Crown Court earlier this month and are due to stand trial on May 12.
Turner worked in the busy operating theatre at the 800-bed University Hospital in Cardiff until she was suspended after police were contacted.
A spokeswoman for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “The health board suspended the individual once we were made aware of the allegations against them.
“This is a sensitive issue and the health board has been cooperating with partners in South Wales Police.
“We are not able to comment further while court proceeding are ongoing.”

THIS is the selfie that has left an entire country in shock as sick teens posed next to a weeping 92-year-old woman after robbing her.
The masked trio took the twisted snap in front of a mirror while their distressed victim was seen hunched on her bed with her hands tied.
Three teen gangsters posed next to their 92-year-old victim in a sick selfie[/caption] The twisted robbery took place in a neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina[/caption]The horrifying moment, captured by the criminals themselves, was posted on social media like a trophy.
The crime took place in the early hours of January 17 in the Vicente Lopez neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The gang broke into the elderly woman’s home, gagged her, beat her, and tied her to her bed while they ransacked her house for cash and valuables, reports local outlet El Observador.
They stole wedding rings, a gold chain, an iPhone, and 50,000 pesos, which is around £45.
But before making their escape, they stopped to take a chilling memento — a selfie, with their terrified victim caught in the frame.
Hours later, they struck again in a different neighbourhood, targeting another woman.
This time, they took a 32-inch television before fleeing in a Volkswagen Gol Trend, the same car used in their first attack.
Their downfall came from the very photo they flaunted.
Investigators trawling through social media spotted the image, paired with a disturbing caption — “the spark is one, it was” —alongside an electronic dance track.
“It is disgusting,” said one investigator, horrified by the criminals’ brazen display.
Through surveillance footage, witness testimonies, and social media analysis, police identified the gang.
Several raids were carried out in the northern suburbs of Buenos Aires, leading to their capture.
Prosecutor Alejandro Guevara has requested preventive detention and a swift trial for the suspects — three minors and a 26-year-old adult.
All four have been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.
Elsewhere in Paraguay, a “cradle snatcher” who posed as a nurse was caught on video fleeing from hospital with a stolen baby wrapped in her arms.
Natalia Edith González, 39, was arrested for allegedly nabbing the newborn from a hospital in Paraguay – and was just 50 metres from escaping over the Argentine border with it.
It’s believed she was on the hunt for an infant to steal after lying to her family – including her partner – about being pregnant, and identified a target after scouring three hospitals.
Her attempt to abduct the day-old baby was caught on CCTV inside the Barrio Obrero Public Hospital in the Paraguayan capital Asunción.
The suspect, an Argentine national, was reportedly posing as a nurse and wearing a face mask when the one-day-old baby was taken.
Man Utd stars hit Ruben Amorim as he runs birthday gauntlet in training… and is left holding his back
MANCHESTER UNITED stars jokingly hit Ruben Amorim as he ran through a birthday gauntlet before training started today.
The Portuguese manager held his back at the end of the player-made tunnel as the squad honoured his 40th birthday.
Ruben Amorim ran through a birthday gauntlet before Man Utd training today[/caption] Amorim emerged holding his back as Darren Fletcher joined him[/caption] The 40-year-old gestured as if he was holding his back from pain.[/caption]Amorim’s celebrated his milestone age with wife Maria Joao Diogo in Manchester on Monday after United’s 1-0 win over Fulham.
And the celebrations continued at Carrington in front of cameras on Wednesday morning.
Amorim could be seen jokingly pulling and shoving fellow birthday boy Darren Fletcher before sprinting through a corridor of players.
The pair decided to run through the gauntlet together as the squad stood eagerly waiting to give them a wallop as they passed.
Fletcher, who turns 41 on Saturday, emerged first, before Amorim gestured as if he was holding his back from pain.
Club-captain Bruno Fernandes and Chelsea-linked Alejandro Garnacho stood at the start of the tunnel and could be slapping their hands in.
And fans joked that outcasts Marcus Rashford and Casemiro might have been tempted to give Amorim a firmer whack.
Rashford, whose training application has been questioned by Amorim, could be seen getting involved at the end of gauntlet.

Amorim joked that he already feels 10 years older after Lisandro Martinez’ deflected strike earned his side a late win at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
He said: “It’s not 40…I’m 50! After two months at Manchester United, it’s 50. It’s a privilege to spend my 40th birthday here.
“It will be fantastic because we won. Then I will have dinner with my kids.”
Rashford was pictured laughing with his team-mates during the rest of the session after Amorim’s latest brutal post-match comments.
The former Sporting gaffer took a swipe at the home-grown England international by declaring that he’d rather pick his 63-year-old goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital over a player who underperforms in training.
Meanwhile, the gauntlet has become something of a tradition this season.
Amorim brought it in to celebrate players returning to training from injury, including the likes of Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro.
Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell said it is a positive sign for the squad.
He told MUTV: “It’s what you want from a group like this. A football season is very long and you spend a lot of time together.
“At some moments of the season, you see them more than your own family and that is certainly the case when you are working long hours at Carrington.
“If you can establish those relationships and those links, in the hard moments during the season, you can push each other.
“You can demand more, so I think he is looking forward to getting to know his players more.”
The Red Devils travel to face Romanian outfit FCSB for their final league phase match in the Europa League on Thursday.
MAN UTD PLAYER RATINGS: Maguire puts in superb defensive display but Garnacho caught running into blind alleys
MANCHESTER UNITED secured a hard-fought three points against Fulham.
Lisandro Martinez’s deflected strike proved to be the difference in what was the Red Devils’ only shot on target all game.
Harry Maguire impressed but Alejandro Garnacho once again failed to impress in what could have been his Man Utd farewell amid rumours linking him with Napoli and Chelsea.
Here is how SunSport rated the individual performances.
Andre Onana – 7
Good save low down to his left to keep out an Alex Iwobi shot early doors.
Other than that he was barely tested but no glaring errors mean it is a step in the right direction for the Red Devils No1.
Diogo Dalot – 6
Had a difficult time in the first half up against Iwobi who was Fulham‘s main attacking threat.
Switched to the left flank in the second half and supported Garnacho without posing much of a threat.
Matthijs de Ligt – 8
Another strong showing at the back from the Dutchman. Without his support for Dalot, Fulham may have created a goal down United’s right-hand side.
Harry Maguire – 9
A superb defensive display from the England star who has been one of United’s best players since Amorim took charge.
Pulled off a brilliant header at the back post to deny Rodrigo Muniz a certain goal.
Lisandro Martinez – 8
Superb last-ditch tackle to prevent Emile Smith Rowe from shooting as he burst through on goal.
His goal had a big slice of luck as it was deflected past Bernd Leno but credit to him for having the audacity to shoot.
Noussair Mazraoui – 7
Solid at the back and tried to get forward when he could. United looked more balance with him on the left and Dalot on the right, although the pair swapped at half-time.
Manuel Ugarte – 6
Showed some nice touches and was a bit of a menace in the middle – in a positive and negative sense. Kept a close eye on Smith Rowe and allowed him no time on the ball.
Booked for a foul on Adama Traore and was taken off shortly afterwards with an injury.
Bruno Fernandes – 5
Not at his best. Barely saw the ball in the first half and was not very effective when he did get it.
Amad Diallo – 6
Looked bright on the ball and United’s only real outlet going forward.
He worked tirelessly and pressed really well – his hard work paid off when he found the back of the net in stoppage time but his effort was chalked off.
Alejandro Garnacho – 3
Was cautious on the ball and ran into blind alleys too often. Final ball let him down on the rare occasion he did manage to beat a defender.
Rasmus Hojlund – 4
His hold up play is nowhere near good enough for this system or for a club like United.
He was too gung-ho at times and his erratic nature meant linking up with Amad and Garnacho proved difficult.
Hauled off before the hour mark which says it all about his performance.
Subs:
Leny Yoro (for De Ligt, 58mins) – 6
A more assured display given his shaky start to life in the Premier League.
Joshua Zirkzee (for Hojlund, 58mins) – 5
Like Hojlund he had a difficult time holding the ball up but United improved with him on the pitch.
Toby Collyer (for Ugarte, 76mins ) – 6
Solid display again from the youngster who was often in the right position to clear, including one on the line to stop a Joachim Andersen header from going in.
Kobbie Mainoo (for Garnacho, 80mins) – 6
Provided energy in midfield and shored things up alongside Collyer.
A brilliant one-two with Amad set up the winger to score before VAR ruled Amad offside.
Tyrell Malacia (for Mazraoui, 80mins) – 6
Brought on in an unfamiliar right wing-back role but did what was needed to see out the clean sheet.
